Roller SubsSuccessfully Utilised In 84º Deviations

The Omega Roller Sub was designed to fill a need in the rolling systems market for a simple and reliable means of reducing toolstring friction. The Roller Subs allow deeper penetration into deviated wellbores and also enhance our Slickline Tractor and Catapult operations.

The Roller Subs feature interchangeable hardened wheels that allow the fitment of the largest wheel size possible for a particular completion. The large diameter wheel has two positive benefits. It lifts the toolstring clear of any foreign bodies, scale or debris in the tubing and also prevents the tools between the rollers from “bellying out” on the tubing wall. The large radius also allows easier passage over obstructions where smaller wheel sizes would encounter difficulty.

A roller sub for electric line operations is also available. It incorporates a mono conductor Type 44 cable protected by stainless steel tubing which is recessed into the sub body. Metal to metal seals on the tubing connections give a 10,000 p.s.i. rating for the sub.

In addition to reducing the effects of downhole friction on the toolstring, the Omega Roller Subs also act to mitigate mechanical damage to the tubing I.D. that can be caused by repeated reciprocation of the wireline conveyed toolstring.

Each wheel features three bearings, two thrust and one double angular. The wheels are rigidly mounted on a threaded shaft that is double locked to the main body. The roller sub features four wheels per roller in a spiral, which guarantees two contact points with the tubing at any one time.

Horizontal Self Cocking JarHydraulic High Deviation Jarring

The Omega Horizontal Self Cocking Jar is a long stroke hydraulic jar which has the unique capability of re-setting itself in a highly deviated or horizontal wellbore. Whereas standard Hydraulic, spang or spring jars rely on gravity to re-set, the Omega Horizontal Jar incorporates a re-setting spring which provides sufficientre-setting force independent of deviation.

Originally designed to be run with the Omega Tractor, the Horizontal Jar provides greater flexibility to many non-tractor operations.A unique feature of the Omega Horizontal Jar is the viscosity compensation metering system which maintains the metering time near constant regardless of the temperature.

The pressure balanced design offers a jar that will operate in nearly all environments without the need to change oil between runs or for differing well conditions.

When deployed with the Omega Hi-Deviation Tubular Jar & Roller Subs the Omega Horizontal Jar has operated in deviations of over 84º.

High Deviation Tubular JarEnhanced Upward & Downward Jarring

The Omega High Deviation Tubular Jar addresses the industry need for a tubular jar that has the ability to stroke closed in highly deviated wells. Used in conjunction with the Omega Roller Subs, the Tubular Jar will provide both upward and downward jarring action in wells up to a proven 84 degrees deviation. This is achieved by utilizing two sets of recirculating ball bushings.

The HDT Jar is extremely debris tolerant due to its larger than normal running clearance between the anvil block and outer housing.

This larger clearance combined with the large ports on the outer housing and bottom sub allows for easy transfer of fluid reducing the hydraulic damping effects.

Despite the many unique features of the Omega High Deviation Jar there is no additional specialist knowledge required allowing the resident slickline crew to perform normal operations.

CatapultHigh Deviation Kinetic Access

The Catapult is designed to enable electric or slickline tool strings to penetrate deep into deviated wells allowing operating depth to be reached with certainty. It can be mobilised in a single container, which makes it an ideal contingency package and a low cost alternative to electric line tractors or coiled tubing operations.

Normally, as tools are lowered into a well, they build up kinetic energy, which is a function of the speed and weight. The kinetic energy built up in a vertical section can help the tools to run into a deviated well for some distance. However, once the kinetic energy has dispersed due to friction, the tools come to a halt.

The Catapult allows the toolstring to bere-energised with kinetic energy many times using line pull, thus allowing the operation to be completed to target depth with certainty.

Non Impact Wire CutterElectronically Controlled Wire Retrieval

The Omega Non-Impact Wire Cutter is an electronic timer controlled wire cutter, which may be used in highly deviated wells to recover the maximum amount of wire from a stuck down-hole tool, prior to commencing fishing operations. The ReAct© cutter timer interval is controlled by fitting a special plug at the top of the actuator sub-assembly. Once fitted an LED on the plug flashes to confirm that the ReAct© timer has started the countdown.

A suite of colour coded plugs is supplied, which automatically select pre-programmed countdown intervals. The cutter is then fitted over the wire, installed in the lubricator and then dropped down-hole. Integral rollers allow the cutter to reach the maximum depth.

After the ReAct© countdown, the actuator module is triggered, operating a hydrostatic/hydraulic piston arrangement which operates the mechanical cutter, simultaneously severing the wire and gripping the wire just above the cut.

The wire pigtail above the stuck tool fishing neck is identical to that seen on simple impact type cutters. The cutter is designed to be fully field redressable, with the actuator module replaced on site. If suitable workshop facilities are available, the actuator module may also be redressed, with only the ReAct© electronics sub-assembly returned to Omega for refurbishment.
