Project Summary

This BREEAM Very Good project involved the construction and fi t out of a fl agship Next retail store, their fi rst purpose-built building, on a live retail park in Hedge End

This three-storey, steel framed building includes an atrium entrance, clothing departments, home department, garden centre, two glazed lifts, six escalators and a customer café, plus extensive back of house facilities.

The store elevations include high quality Dura Beige stone and structural glass panelling, with internal fi nishes formed from metal frame ceilings, stone and feature wall fi nishes and stone, ceramic and wood fl oor fi nishes. Midas completed hard and soft landscaping with an access road system and car park.

Environmental features include a roof-installed PV array, natural light maximised throughout the building and a recycling fi gure of 99.29%.

Project Summary

This project involved the strip back to shell, refurbishment and alteration of a locally listed building in the heart of a Conservation Area, to form a new Primark store. The space is fi ve separate buildings made into one. Works included wall panelling, redecoration, mechanical and electrical installations, escalators, passenger and goods lifts, fl ooring and shop fronts. The fi nished project provides 85,000ft² of retail space and 22,160ft² of staff areas.

Primark - Plymouth

Project Summary

This fl agship project for Primark is part of the high profi le Drake Circus Shopping Centre in the heart of Plymouth. Midas completed fi t out of the developer’s shell to provide 48,814ft² of retail space across two fl oors. The total fl oor space including staff, stockroom, ancillary and circulation area came to 63,572ft². Midas installed two escalators, two passenger and two goods lifts, full M&E and Primark Grade A standard panelling and decoration. Midas completed the works on a challenging, constrained city centre site.

Marks & Spencer

Project Summary

This project involved refurbishment of the entire 40,000ft² high street store in Taunton.

Works included creation of a food hall, ladies wear, lingerie section and menswear section with fi tting rooms. Midas refurbished the customer café, redecorated staff offi ces and welfare facilities, and created three enclosed shop fronts facing on to the shopping mall.

Mechanical and electrical works included the installation of a lighting scheme to all sales fl oors and café, a ducted heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system including two air handling units situated on the roof, a fi re alarm system and a CCTV system.

Midas completed all the works overnight, enabling the store to remain open and trading with minimal disruption for customers.

Project Summary

Midas designed and constructed this Next department store shell on a live retail park in the city centre of Gloucester. Located on the Peel Centre, the site is close to live retail premises, including Gloucester Quays shopping centre, which remained open throughout.

Midas completed enabling works including drainage and services with vibro piling and vibro compaction. The structure is steel frame with cladding and curtain walling, with the project including installation of the roof, windows and doors.

External works included refurbishment of the canal footpath, resurfacing and reinstating the car park and

landscaping including the planting of 24 trees.

The store is close to the live Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. Midas liaised with the Canal & River Trust to manage protection of the waterway, fi tting debris netting to perimeter fencing and intelligently sequencing the works to complete boundary walls as a protective measure prior to the concrete pour.

Plymouth Gateway Retail Park

Project Summary

Midas constructed four retail units and two drive through fast food units on a design and build contract, at a live retail park located near Plymouth.

The team maintained public and commercial access to the open retail units throughout the project, safely separating the construction works from the park using hoarding, establishing separate access routes for contractors and the public and employing a full time vehicle controller to manage deliveries and access.

Midas formed four commercial units, approximately 43,000 to 54,000ft² each, a drive through KFC and a drive-through Costa, using driven precast concrete piles and steel frames. Works included car parking, tactile paving and access roads, with landscaping and construction of a retaining wall.

Midas worked with the Building Plymouth initiative to promote work experience and placement opportunities for the local community.

Gallagher Retail ParkLocation: SomersetClient: I.M. Properties plcValue: £2.3mDuration: 31 weeks

Project Summary

Midas completed refurbishment works to the live Gallagher Retail Park in Weston-super-Mare.

Works included removal and replacement of cladding and signage, with overcladding of the existing roof, replacement of

shop front glazing and extension of glass entrances. Externally, Midas completed landscaping and refurbished and resurfaced the footpaths and car park.

The park remained open throughout with retail units occupied and trading, requiring works outside trading hours, rerouting of public traffi c and the creation of safety tunnels at each entrance. The team liaised closely with traders to manage and coordinate the programme and access, working together to address challenges.

Project Summary

Midas completed the BREEAM Very Good renovation, extension and fi t out of a ten-storey building in Exeter city centre, to form a fl agship store.

Originally appointed for a £10m shell, core and fi t out, the client extended our contract during works to include construction of a four-storey extension, doubling the value and complexity of the project.

Works involved structural alterations, reconfi guration and installation of a glazed curtain wall, with full fi t out including lifts, escalators, canteens, and racking.

Midas partnered with our Retail division to provide the clients with an end-to-end project delivery strategy, coordinating programmes and ensuring a synchronised approach.

Midas compacted the construction programme to coincide with the fi t out, enabling the store to open for the critical pre-Christmas period.
