Modern high tech applicationIn flower growing

Problem statement

Growing flower bring to Vietnamese farmer much profit. However, in recent years the increase of pestilent insect, vagaries of weather have made many difficulties for Florist and required a new method require new farming methods to increase productivity.

Opportunity and Introduction

Vietnam is a tropical country having high percentage of agriculture in the economy. Along with climate conditions split complexly from north to south and height, leading to diversity in the structure of agricultural products. Some species of temperate origin, can only be produced where the temperature often have low as midland and mountainous regions in Northern Vietnam, Da Lat etc. Since then, the transportation of products to the place of consumption requires time and various other expenses, due to traffic conditions are not favorable.

The question is how we can grow those temperate crops in the plains because it will reduce costs for shipping, storage etc.

This system is a viable solution to that question. As we know the delta in Vietnam has a tropical climate with high temperatures over the midlands and mountainous areas with temperate climates. That is the difficulty in cultivating the plant originated in the tropical lowlands. And smart irrigation system with automatic control mechanism, based on accurate temperature sensors and other intelligent design would help resolve obstacles.Imagine those agricultural products that you only can use after they go through a transportation process through kilometers white carriage, along with the cost of maintenance... but now they are grown now where you live. This will help reduce production costs, to provide benefits to farmers and consumer. In order to increase the productivity, decrease the damage of increase of pestilent insect and the dependence of the weather, thereby increasing the income of florists, a project called “Modern high tech application In flower growing” we just made. This project promises to bring a breakthrough for planting flowers in Vietnam.

Methods

This project containing two main systems:

1 Irrigation system

1.1 Drip Irrigation system

This system is applied to supply water and fertilizer so that plants can develop stably. It includes a main pump, a well and a pipe system leading water to each plant bed. The advantage of this system is a concrete layer lying 1m under ground. This concrete layer is designed with the appropriate tilt so that water which plants does not use completely after irrigating will be led to the well and will be used to irrigate in next time( loop cycle ), thereby we can avoid wasting water, so that would save about 5%-10% water as we guess further probably.

Because as we known, the mount of water irrigated is just absorbed by plant underground 60-70% ( says specialists, obviously it demand of kind of plant but not much ), and the rest would be moved to the well.

The system equipped smart pipe also known as COURART which is not only affordable but also resistant for extreme compression well from the outside and bend easily and unlimited length can be installed in deep ground depending on the plant as well. You can freely walk on it comfortable and assured of excellent quality of the product, especially water pipes made of 304 stainless steel that can withstand wet environment and humidity like underground for long time.

1.2 Fogging spray system

This system is installed on the roof of the greenhouse (it will be introduced in next part) in order to decrease the temperature inside greenhouse when it gets hot. We put a sensor in the area of the greenhouse. When the temperature or the humidity is beyond the growing limit of plants, the sensor sends warning signals, and then the Fogging spray system will be operated. With this method, the temperature could be reduced 3 to 5 degrees. And we know that would guard flower from hot days.

Page 8: High tech

2. Green HouseThe model system chosen, 20mx20mx4.5m in size, is designed to improve model from Netafim. The main advantage of this model is sustainable structures that can withstand high winds and covered in a cold climate conditions. Material is not oxidized. Irrigation and sub-climate factors inside including temperature, humidity, and light must be controlled automatically. Also a flexible lifting and lowering sucking wind roof system, shading sun net and ventilation systems together. The elements inside the greenhouse environment such as temperature, humidity, light is measured and transferred to the control unit by the sensor with high stability levels (less than 5% error). Temperature, wind ventilation is controlled by lifting and lowering (closed, opened) roof ventilation and exhaust fans. Humidity-controlled misting system combined with the above parts. Irrigation cycle which is controlled depends on the crops are controlled by PLC. Greenhouse assay results showed that the automatic control sub-climate factors inside through the actuators such as opening and closing ventilation, fogging spray, collapsible sun blade and control ventilation fan system can reduce temperatures in the greenhouse from 3 to 50C when the hot weather and warm atmosphere, an increase of 2 to 30C when a cold climate. At the same time, greenhouse’s humidity can be controlled to not increase more than 85%, to avoid damage to plants

Summary

Result of Experiment on the Lily on a year

Lily is a plant native to temperate zone, adapt to temperatures 17 – 250C. 60-80% humidity, especially Lily is very sensitive to temperature, high temperature above 250C flowers grow fast, short growing period. The growing time of the imported varieties in summer-autumn crop shorter than the original species from 25-30 days, for the Winter - Spring fairly standard compared to the same root, so the selection of varieties and determine the stage of crop important to the success of your business. Also need to coordinate with the technical care measure and control temperature, humidity matches the flowers can create high quality, bloom on time as you wish.- With the Orientation (Stargazer, Sorbonne, Yelloween, Valdermar, Ribera ...)

9. How is your feeling about the “High-Tech Application in Growing Flower” project?

Feasibility 20% Unrealistic 80%

After beginning research and give these florists its profit, this is the change:

8. Would you like to invest the high-tech for big profit but demanding a quite great capital?

Yes 80%No 15%Other idea 5%

Page 13: High tech

9. How is your feeling about the “High-Tech Application in Growing Flower” project?

Feasible 90% Unrealistic 10%

The number of people who agree to invest the high-tech for big profit but demanding a quite great capital increase from 15% before beginning research to 80% after beginning the research, and the number of people who feel the “High-Tech Application in Growing Flower” project is feasible increase from 20% to 90%, it demonstrates that the project is really impressive for farmers and has high capable of practical application.

Conclusion

After the experiment, we have learnt experience from it

and list two sides: Advantages and Disadvantages.

1. The Advantages

• The profit is high and steady.

• The system can be used for long time, big

area and suffered from outside causes.

• The productivity is high and steady.

• Saving water and reducing the labor.

• Farmer can grow for all time of year such as:

spring, summer, autumn, winter.

• Flower can be protected from pestilent insect,

damage of weather….etc.

Page 15: High tech

2. The Disadvantages

• The capital from beginning is large.

• This would waste if we did at small area.

• The drip irrigation system can get stuck on it,

because of sand, pieces of stone…from the

underground.
