With the Master Plan now adopted, it is time to move forward setting our sights on the next five years! Recently, the board approved a debt restructuring allowing the Park District to secure $1,100,000 for capital improvements with no direct financial impact to our residents. The goal with this money is to complete three major projects: Century East Park Updates, Hanover Estates Park Development and an update to the Hansen Community Center.

All three of these items have been identified as top project priorities and the order in which they are accomplished will depend heavily on grant funding. In total, all three projects combined are estimated at approximately $3,100,000. In order to accomplish all three projects with the limited funds secured, staff will be working diligently to receive grants over the next few years through the State of Illinois and other possible opportunities.

With these major capital projects potentially on the horizon, our number one overall operational priority continues to be programming and improved services to the community. As you have seen over the past couple of years, specifically the last six months, staff has done a tremendous job in offering creative and quality programs. Our guides continue to be our primary source of marketing and communication for programs, along with several other methods of communication as periodic reminders of upcoming programs and events.

As we heard from the community, program cancellations are a concern of ours as well. Staff realize that a lack of confidence in programs due to cancellations causes a tremendous uphill battle to get programs up and running! We want nothing more than to see a thriving program base for our residents. We are asking for your help and support in assisting us with this goal in three ways:

Your continued support and assistance will help us achieve our goal which is to provide you, the residents of Manhattan Park District, the highest quality programs, facilities and services possible.

Join the fun all summer long with Camp Coyote! Each day campers will adventure in the outdoors, use their creativity, play favorite games and sports, learn new skills, meet new friends, and make life long memories during this full day camp. Exciting field trips are planned every week! Campers will get to enjoy the Central Park Splash Pad throughout the week, so bring your swimsuit, towel and sunscreen. Beginning Golf will introduce athletes to the essential skills of golf such as form, body positioning, grip, swinging and putting. Skyhawks will use the SNAG (Starting New At Golf) system. CHEERLEADING CAMPSkyhawks Cheerleading teaches young athletes the essential skills to lead crowds and support the home team! This entry-level cheer program ensures that each camper learns cheers, proper hand and body movements, and jumping techniques while also learning important life skills such as teambuilding and leadership. There will be no stunting. The week concludes with a choreographed performance and, when available, a chance to cheer at the Skyhawks Football Camp! TRACK & FIELD CAMPThis camp is designed for beginner and intermediate athletes. Using special equipment, coaches will run exercises and drills that prepare athletes for a future in cross-country, track & field events, and distance running while inspiring a love for running and being active. The camp will introduce skills such as body positioning, stride, proper stretching, and cool-down techniques. The week will conclude with a Skyhawks Track Meet! Campers should wear athletic clothing and gym shoes. Please bring a water bottle each day.



MINI-HAWK CAMPThis camp will introduce the essentials of soccer, T-ball, and track in a fun and safe environment. Children will learn balance, body movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development through a series of sport-specific games tailored to peak their interests. KARATELearn karate with Sensei Peggy Mitchell, a nationally and internationally certified martial arts instructor with a master’s rank. Karate is an art of self-defense, where discipline and self-control are emphasized. This class touches on jiu jitsu, taekwondo and goju. Progression from one belt to the next is determined by training hours as well as performance. Please bring a water bottle to class.

Join the Den Before and After School Program in the 2020-2021 school year! The Den is a fun before and after school program for children to enjoy physical activity, social interaction and home work time while being supervised by an engaging staff. The Den is held in the mornings starting at 6:30 am and afternoons until 6 pm for all District #114 students in grades K-5.

Fees for the 2020-2021 school year include a non-refundable registration fee of $25 per child. Hourly rates are $7/hour for the 1st child, $6.50/hour for the 2nd child, and $6/hour for the 3rd child. Snacks and drinks are included. Payments can be made using cash, checks, e-pay, automatic debit from checking, or credit card. The Den follows the District #114 school calendar beginning on the first day of school and ending on the last day of school.

Early dismissal days are open to all District #114 students, whether or not they are enrolled in The Den. If your child is enrolled in The Den on a day that an early dismissal falls, they will be automatically enrolled unless the Park District is notified otherwise.

PROGRAM GUIDE DISTRIBUTIONManhattan Park District relies on the postal service for the distribution of our program guides, and assumes no responsibility for delivery. Program guides can be obtained at the Hansen Community Center.

CANCELLATIONSContact the Manhattan Park District at 815.478.3324 for updates on program status. Participants registered for programs that are cancelled will be contacted. We attempt to reschedule programs that have been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather, facility or instructor emergencies or scheduling conflict, but are occasionally unable to provide make up classes or refunds.

REFUND POLICYRefunds will not be issued after the program deadline date. At the discretion of Manhattan Park District, a refund may be issued if a refund request is accompanied by documentation from a physician. A refund will be promptly issued if the program or trip is cancelled by Manhattan Park District. Absolutely NO refunds are issued for bus trips that have met their minimum.

DROP-OFF POLICYWe love our parents, but with your child’s best interest in mind, we ask that parents and siblings do not remain in the building when dropping your child off for class, unless otherwise noted. This can be a distraction and interfere with the quality and productivity of the class. Also, we know that children benefit from having recreational time with their peers and can gain a sense of independence when spending time apart from their families while partaking in a structured activity. Our instructors welcome any questions about your child’s progress at any time after class. Thank you for your cooperation.

DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIORManhattan Park District reserves the right to terminate participation in an activity or program due to disruptive behavior or conduct.

PHOTOGRAPHY POLICYThe Manhattan Park District uses pictures of event and program participants to highlight the many recreational activities available. We do not use identification in our brochure or other print opportunities. If you do not want a picture of yourself or your child taken, please tell the photographer and/or the instructor.

REMINDER TO PET OWNERSWhen visiting local parks and trails with your pet, please remember that park district and village ordinances require pets to be leashed at all times. Owners are responsible for cleaning up any animal waste from public property.

IMPORTANT INFORMATIONThe Manhattan Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Manhattan Park District continually strives to reduce risks and insists that all participants follow the safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participants’ safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for programs and activities must recognize that there are inherent risks of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities and programs. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward is physically fit and/or skilled for the activities or programs contemplated by this agreement.
