The shedding of Jesus’ blood on the cross was a blood covenant with you and me that can never be broken.

Genesis 17:7, “I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants.”

The Bible is really a big story about a blood covenant between God and man. The Old Testament is full of types and shadows (or clues) about this very serious promise. We call the clues the scarlet cord; it began in Genesis when God shed the blood of an animal to cover Adam and Eve after they had sinned. So God was the first one to cut a blood covenant. He did this to show Adam and Eve how serious He was about having them in His family and keeping His relationship with them even though they had sinned. It was His way of promising to forgive their sins.

Many years later God reminded another man that His promises don’t change and He does not break His covenants. Abraham was called a friend of God for trusting God so well. God told Abraham that he would have so many children he would not even be able to count them all. He showed how serious He was about His promise by making a blood covenant between Him and Abraham.

In the New Testament God made a better covenant between you and me. He did not use the blood of animals this time. Instead His own dear Son, Jesus, shed His blood on a cross. This is a blood covenant with us that God will never break. With this new covenant our sins are not just covered up but they are washed away. As His believers and His children we are in covenant with the Creator of the Universe; we are covenant partners with Him. There are over 500 promises in the Bible that belong to us because everything that belongs to one of the partners in the covenant belongs to the other partner. We are partnering with God when we accept His Son as the sacrifice Lamb.

God has made a covenant between me and Him.Genesis 17:7

I have been made right with God by the blood of Christ.I Peter I:18, 19

The Cross frees me from the power of sin.1 Corinthians 5:7

Father God,Thank you for loving me and taking care of me. Bless my church, Pastor Ron and his family. Bless my teachers for teaching me Your Word. I believe your love is flowing through me to other people. Help me to obey my parents so things will go well with me and I will live a long life on the earth. I will tell how great You are and how much I love You. I thank You that by Jesus’ stripes I am healed in my body and my soul.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
