In this edition we highlight a few events from the past tri- mester and recognize our award recipients for the se- cond and third trimesters. We had a productive year which included the installa- tion of rooftop solar panels, a Kinder Garden, and a second computer lab for our students. Additionally, we expanded our before school enrichment programs for students needing extra academic support as well as after school interest- based activities including Chess Club, Homework Club, Lego Club, and Mad Science On June 16th, the Northwood staff began training for the purpose of implementing Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) dur- ing the 2011-12 school year. PBIS is a research- based, school-wide ap- proach to improving school climate by creat- ing a safer and more ef- fective school environ- ment. PBIS focuses pri- marily on improving a school’s ability to teach expectations and sup- port positive behavior for all students by imple- menting school-wide procedures in all set- tings. 21st Century Report Cards
Second Computer lab Up and Running
Although our enroll-ment numbers have risen steadily over the past sev-eral years, our main com-puter lab has remained the same size. With only 35 computers in our main computer lab, the students averaged only 30 minutes of computer time per week. To keep up with the de-mand for more computer time for each of our stu-dents, we have increased our computer capacity by
adding an additional com-puter lab with an additional 35 computers. This has effectively doubled the amount of opportunities that our students have to engage in computer assist-ed tasks. We would like to thank all the parents who donat-ed flat panel computer screens to our school to help us complete our goal of completing this lab.
Parents were instead instruct-ed to access their child’s re-port cards through the Parent Portal and were notified via email when the report cards became available online. For families who did not have access to a computer, paper copies were provided or ac-

To that end, we did not send home paper copies of report cards during the second trimester and third trimesters.
