Please keep the following people as well as their families and caregivers in prayer:

Carol Vail is currently in Room 631 at North Kansas City Hospital while they run tests and

stabilize her following her heart attack Saturday night (April 25).

Patsy Prather (a friend of many Hillsiders) passed away after a serious illness.

Reggie Sullivan’s mother, Emma Billingsley is recovering from the colon surgery she had April 21.

Longtime member Virginia Sackman is now in Room 839 at the North Kansas City Hospital Pavilion.

Please pray for her continued recovery.

Sam Crookshanks’ daughter and Becki Hendrix’s sister, Linda Ballentine, has been diagnosed with colon

cancer. She is recovering from surgery and will soon start her chemotherapy treatment.

Wayne Bootman, Carol Vail’s brother, has a cancerous brain tumor. He lives in Ontario, California and

is Carol’s last living sibling. Carol thanks Hillside for continuing to pray with her for Wayne.

[This list does not include all of the prayer concerns throughout our church home. A complete list of prayer concerns may be obtained from the Office or via email.]

Prayer Chain Updates:

Trezo Mare—Don’t Forget !! Please do not forget that Trezo Mare, in keeping with its

desire to give back to Hillside, is donating 20% of your

lunch bill (between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.) on Saturdays

and Sundays from now until about the end of May.

Mention that you are a Hillside member, and Trezo Mare

will donate 20% of your bill to Hillside!

HOPE.wrx Thanks to everyone who attended our Book Sale and Pancake Breakfast on April 18. The Food Pantry received $1200 from the sale and breakfast.

We could not have done this without all the volunteers before, during and after the sale. Liz Place and Gail Campbell did a great job recruiting volunteers. The “guys” in the kitchen did a wonderful job cooking the pancakes and sausage and gravy.

While the book sale was going on, the Food Pantry was supported by 15 high school students. The Park Hill South students in the National Honor Society returned to volunteer in the Pantry. They bagged dog food, organized personal hygiene items, and stocked shelves. They worked very hard and were very enthusiastic. This is the second time these students volunteered in the Pantry as part of their community service.

Board News - -

In a short congregational meeting on Sunday, April 26, the congregation voted to confirm Donna Foster to fill a Board vacancy for the remainder of 2015. We are so happy to have her “on Board”!

At our regular April meeting on 4/23, we spent some time reviewing the new financial reports as provided by Miller Management. Because of the transition to Miller Management and related timing issues, as well as the Board approval of the new candidate for Sr. Pastor at the March meeting, this was our first opportunity to look at and understand the new financial reports. We are so blessed that our giving is ahead of expenses and we are in the black and on solid footing so far in 2015. We thank all our members and contributors for continuing to support Hillside with financial donations so that we can continue our Lord’s work here in the Northland and beyond.

An anonymous donor has agreed to provide financial assistance toward a project of replacing all the existing carpet in the office areas. The Board voted to supplement that donation as needed and we are attempting to have this project completed before Andy Beck arrives as our new Sr. Pastor on June 1. Joe, Steve and other volunteers are planning on installing the new carpet and baseboard molding. So many volunteers donate their time and talent to projects like this at Hillside, and it allows us to do so much more with our monetary donations. I would like to offer a special thank you to all those who work behind the scenes to do a variety of jobs at Hillside so we don’t have to pay to have them done.

The Lord is truly at work at Hillside Christian Church. As Board Chair, it is exciting to watch as Shandra grows and matures in her ministry, and leads our church as we anticipate Andy’s arrival. I hear comments all the time that give me a sense that great things are coming to Hillside Christian Church! I hope you all feel this level of excitement; that our best days are ahead of us as we continue to serve our Lord every day!

Bless you all, Gary Langemach

Sisters Bible Study Even with room service and breakfast in bed on my many trips to North Kansas City Hospital, I am ready to resume our study of the Bible. Hallelujah!!

We will meet in the library on Tuesday, May 5, at 2 p.m.

Discussion of Chapters 3 and 4 of the Holy Spirit will renew our knowledge of the third person of God. What a blessing that when Jesus returned to Heaven, he left us with the Spirit of God to comfort and direct us.

It will be wonderful to resume our study. ~ Doone

HOSTING OF FAMILY PROMISE /

HILLSIDE HOSTING FOR FAMILY PROMISE

It was Hillside’s turn to host Family Promise on April 13. However, that did not happen. After the Director left the program, we found several things we wanted to change and decided that it would be easier to do that without any families in the program to “teach” the new families how to do the things we wanted to change. Therefore, we let the population graduate out of the program and did not have new families until the Monday after the group was to leave Hillside. For those of you who brought perishable items, those items were given to the Food Pantry and were used by people who needed the food. I am sorry for any inconvenience that resulted from this decision. The next hosting church was Park Hill Christian Church, which is a new hosting church.

We are very grateful for all of you who offered to help and actually did so. I am sure you will be very much needed the next time. We have graduated about six families from the program that are really doing very well. You can certainly consider your efforts as a foundation for their success. Thank you.

We are planning a Family Promise Garage Sale on June 20, 21, and 22. If you have items to donate or time to donate to get these things ready for sale, it would be greatly appreciated.

Please contact Marilyn Gardner (816-468-8735.)

Spring is here !! Should we be "sprucing up" the building and grounds? If you think “yes”, we have a few suggestions. If you choose to do a project/task, please let either Ginger or the office know. Do this at your leisure, no "planned" day is on the calendar. Building Projects: Window cleaning at entrances, offices, and courtyard Painting exterior door of chapel Dusting all ledges, cabinets, coat racks, organ/pianos and pews Vacuuming seats of pews, and clean wood on pews with Murphy Oil Soap; mop beneath pews

Buff/wax foyers/hallways Remove tape on windows Clean up bulletin boards Review lost and found box and discard as needed Clear out unmarked/unclaimed food in the refrigerators Exterior Projects: Trim rose bushes in courtyard Clear flower bed in circle drive in back of church Clear flower beds in front of church and east side of church Clear leaves on playground and parking lot Pick up trash around the church grounds Property Projects: As always, there are projects around the church which need volunteers to take on. We have a small group who always step up and we appreciate all they do for Hillside. However, it is not fair to them, or their families, to be constantly called to help. Please consider helping where you can. Here are some of the areas that need attention: Clean out grease trap in kitchen and dryer vent located in Maintenance closet Dumpster fence needs wood slats screwed in where loose Replace missing ceiling tiles in gym and around the church Downspout on exterior of gym needs to be reattached (west side of building) Install new paper towel holders in basement restrooms

Thanks for your help!
