Charrette Agenda

• Introduction • Guiding Principles • Charrette process • Educational goals per grade grouping (K-1, 2-3, 4-5) – Tammi Martin –

10 minutes• Group work sessions – 30 minute intervals – 1.5 hours

• Groups will rotate between three exercises (k-1, 2-3, 4-5)Number of small groups will be divided equally and depend on number of participants.

• Group presentations – 1 – 1.5 hour• Small groups will present their thoughts and layouts to the

group as a whole• Depending on the number of groups the time limit will be

determined.• Brief discussion will most likely occur during these presentations

so that this timeframe will be flexible• Closing

• Including invitation to upcoming charrettes in January/February

Guiding PrinciplesReal Estate Guiding Principle: Develop a safe, multi-use campus that serves as an asset to the community as well as the District.

Community Partners Guiding Principle: The School District should be the center of the community and provide:• Opportunities for engagement with the community to enhance the student experience. • Provide opportunities to community members for enrichment within the District

facilities. • Safe, accessible spaces should be provided throughout the District, thus serving multiple

community neighborhoods.

Learning Tool and Pedagogy Guiding Principle: Learning tools and pedagogy should be flexible and forward thinking:• Building configuration should allow for flexibility and adapting to the ever-changing

educational tools and learning environments.• Planning decisions should learn from the past but project to the future.• Utilize a holistic approach to education that focuses on both academics and the arts.• Spaces should be developed to facilitate a culture of professional development, student

development, family engagement and support.

Guiding PrinciplesSafety and Security Guiding Principle: All District facilities should provide a safe environment:• Buildings should have secure entrances and exits. • Control of main entry points should be achieved easily without interrupting the faculty or

staff from their ongoing responsibilities.• Sites should be safe, accessible and maintain ease of access for emergency responders.

Athletics Guiding Principle: Athletics and fitness facilities should be developed for both student and community use that:• Support a culture of wellness and active lifestyle• Utilize the existing facilities throughout the district

Facilities Guiding Principle: District facilities should be maintained or upgraded as required to support the continued success of the district.• Existing facilities should be maintained where practical, fiscally responsible and

in support of the educational goals. • Improvements should be made to support the future goals of the educational

program.• Improvements or upgrades should be made to support the community

partnerships.

What is a Charrette?• Open discussion involving participants with a shared interest,• Flexible process to explore multiple solutions with the same goal,• Creative process that allow free thinking and “out of the box” solutions,• Structured agenda to allow time for information distribution, exploration and

reporting of solutions to the group
