The Taj Mahal looms fairytale-like from the banksof the Yamuna River. It's actually a tomb thatcontains the body of Mumtaz Mahal the wife ofMughal emperor Shah Jahan. He had it built as an

ode to his love for her. Dating back to 1630 AD, theTaj Mahal is made out of marble and took 22 yearsand 20,000 workers to complete. One of the mostcaptivating things about it is the way its color

appears to gradually alter in the changing light ofthe day.

Astonishingly carved into hillside rock in the

middle of nowhere are the Ajanta and Ellora caves. There are 34 caves at Ellora dating from betweenthe 6th and 11th centuries AD, and 29 caves atAjanta dating back to between the 2nd century BC

and 6th century AD. While the Ajanta caves arerich in paintings and sculpture, the Ellora caves arerenowned for their extraordinary architecture. Themost incredible thing about these caves is that

they were crafted by hand, with only a hammerand chisel.

How often have we been told not to build castles in theair? Very often indeed, but if you are a dreamer and wishto see this 'palace of the winds' which is not just in yourimagination but a real palace, then come to the 'pinkcity' of Rajasthan and see the Hawa Mahal. Each wall ofthe palace reinforces the idea that 'dreams truly cancome true', and the whole structure is such a beautiful

sight that you possibly cannot describe it in words. The Hawa Mahal, which adjoins the famous City Palace

wall, was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singhand has now become one of the major landmarks ofJaipur.
