Timeline 1970-Xerox opens Palo Alto research
center. 1971-RCA sells its computer division . 1972-Hewlett Packard announces its hp-
30. 1973-The Micril was invented. 1974-Xeroxes palo alto research center
designed the Alto. 1975-Xerox closes its computer division.
Timeline 1985-The Amiga 1000 is released. 1995-Java is introduced. 2001-Xbox is released. 2002-Over 1 billion pc’s have been
sold. 2005-Ebay gets Skype. 2006-Skype has over 100,000 users.

CPU CPU stands for central processing unit.
It is almost like the brain of the computer.
Video card A video card is a expansion card that
allow the computer to send graphical information to a video display like the monitor.
RAM RAM stands for random access
memory. You can access any memory cell directly if you know the row and column it is on.
Hard drive It is a efficient computer memory
device.
CD-ROM CD-ROM stands for compact disk read
only memory.
USB Port USB stands for universal serial bus
connector. It allows you to plug in mice, keyboards, and printers.
PCI Card PCI stands for peripheral component
interconnect. PCI’s include stuff like network cards and sound cards.
Motherboard It allows all the parts of the computer
to recieve power and communicate with each other.
Power source The power source for computers is
electric.
