    In 1955, Hall originated the term (care, cure,core) and developed the 3 steps: noteobservation, ministration, validation

    In 1959, Johnson concluded Nursing seen asfostering the behavioural functioning of theclient.

    1961, Orlando identified 3 steps: clientsbehaviour, nurses reaction, nurses action.Nursing process set into motion by clientsbehaviour

    In 1963, Weidenbach were among the first touse it to refer to a series of phases describingthe process.

    In 1967, Wiche ) defined Nursing as aninteractive process between client andnurse. 4 steps: Perception, Communication,

    Interpretation, Evaluation.

    In 1967, Yura and Walsh suggested the 4components APIE.

    In 1967, Knowles described nursing process as:discover, delve, decide, do, discriminate.

    In 1973, ANA published standards of nursing

    practice. Diagnosis distinguished as separatestep of nursing process . In 1980, published Nursing a Social Policy Statement.

    Diagnosis of actual and potential health problemsdelineated as integral part of nursing practice

    In 1991, published Standard of Clinical NursingPractice. Outcome identification differentiated as adistinct step of the nursing process. Therefore, the sixsteps of the nursing process are as follows:A.D.OI.P.I.E.

    The Nursing Process

    Is the underlying scheme that provides order anddirection to nursing care.

    It is the essence of professional nursing practice.

    It has been conceptualized as a systematic seriesof independent nursing actions directed towardpromoting an optimum level of wellness for theclient.

    It is cyclical; the components follow a logicalsequence, but more than one component maybe involved at any one time.

    Purposes of Nursing Process

    To identify a clients health status, actual orpotential health care problems or needs, toestablish plans to meet the identified needs,

    and to deliver specific nursing interventionsto meet those needs.

    It helps nurses in arriving at decisions and inpredicting and evaluating consequences.

    It was developed as a specific method forapplying a scientific approach or a problemsolving approach to nursing practice.
