What is Industrial Revolution?

The Industrial Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to some time between 1820 and 1840. This transition included going from hand production methods to machines, new chemical manufacturing and iron production processes, improved efficiency of water power, the increasing use of steam power and the development of machine tools.

The industrial revolution in part was fueled by the economic necessity of many womens, single and married, to find waged work outside their home. Women mostly found jobs in domestic service, textile factories, and piece work shops. They also worked in the coal mines. For some, industrial revolution provided independent wages, mobility and a better standard of living.

Industrial revolution for men!!A great many men still worked in farming, and they would work long hours, since there is always something to do on a farm, all hours of the day. Many men worked in factories, and they worked very long hours, and their wages were not very high (though they generally earned more than the women who worked in factories did). Skilled artisans and craftsmen would be likely to be self-employed.

Industrial revolution for Childrens:

Young children working endured some of the harshest conditions. Workdays would often be 10 to 14 hours with minimal breaks during the shift. Factories employing children were often very dangerous places leading to injuries and even deaths. Machinery often ran so quickly that little fingers, arms and legs could easily get caught. Beyond the equipment, the environment was a threat to children as well as factories put out fumes and toxins. When inhaled by children these most certainly could result in illness, chronic conditions or disease.

Rights of workers Workers had no rights until unions forced governments to pass laws to protect workers. Working 10-12 hour days, 6 days a week were not uncommon. Having children work at the ages of 5 or 6 was not uncommon. It wasn't until unions were formed which demanded better pay and safer working conditions did things change. If they complained, they would just fire them
