When asked what they liked about Secret Sister, Heather Frustol said, “I like seeing all the love go around!” Mollie Jacobson said, “It’s fun to watch the guys get in touch with their feminine side!” While the girls get to have fun watching all the craziness, the guys have to go out of their comfort zone. Tzu-Hsuan Feng said,” This week is fun because you can talk to the girls you never talk to and be nice to all the girls in the school.”

“Do you know who my Secret Sister is?” “Give me a pick up line!” “Do you want to buy an ad?” These are a few of the statements a student at Hillcrest might hear when they walk through the halls during Valentine’s Week.

For more than 25 years HLA has been cel-ebrating Valentine’s Day with an activity called Secret Sister. Secret Sister is motivated by the senior girls. After chapel the Friday before Valentine’s week the girls pick what guy they will be a “Secret Sister” to. While the senior girls get the leisure of hand picking who they want, underclass girls get a surprise as they draw from a hat. The key is to keep it a secret from the guys until the end of the Valentine’s week. Some tell their friends who their Secret Brother is and hope that the secret won’t get

out, but others don’t tell anyone. During Secret Sister Week, the girls have

the guys do many funny, cute, and even em-barrassing things. For all their hard work the girls usually give their secret brother treats to eat throughout the week.

When asked what they liked about Secret Sister, Heather Frustol said, “I like seeing all the love go around!” Mollie Jacobson said, “It’s fun to watch the guys get in touch with their feminine side!”

Dear John, Your M ovie Wasn ’t Very Good. Lov e , Kari .A movie review on the latest release, “Dear John”.by Kari Battillo

For the past few weeks, one book has been making the rounds around the Hillcrest Halls in a fury. I’m not talking about a Biology book either. I’m talking about the novel “Dear John” written by Nicholas Sparks.

The romantic author pulls off another sappy, love story through the characters of John and Savannah. John, a soldier who’s overseas, falls in love with Savannah within days of meeting her, while on leave visiting his father at home. As John prepares to go back overseas, Savannah and he try to work things out while far apart.

Although I’m not going to spoil the ending, I will spoil the fact that this movie was nothing special. I went to go see it on Friday night, opening day, and found myself struggling to stay awake during the 5:10 PM showing.

“It had terrible acting and was an overall horrible movie that wasted my time and money,” said senior Justin Olsoe, regarding “Dear John”.

Another senior, Elisabeth Li-stor, said, “They took out a lot of vital themes that they presented in the book. I was disappointed be-cause I got my hopes up for a good

movie and was let down when they changed so many things.”

On the other end of the spectrum, some junior girls enjoyed the movie quite a bit!

“It was sad, but cute at the same time. I would see it again,” said Mol-lie Jacobsen. Another junior, Kylee Haegeland said, “The book made me mad, so I only went to see the movie because Channing Tatum was in it!”

Most movie critics were not im-pressed by “Dear John” either, but the movie has made over $30 million in the box office so far.

Dominican Pre paration sThe Dominican team continues to prepare for their upcoming April mission trip.by Ali Connelly

On Wednesday January 27th, seniors and chaperones alike faced the wintry conditions to venture to Pizza Ranch, where they would be serving hungry customers in hopes of raising money and awareness for their upcoming mission trip to the Dominican Republic.

“The Pizza Ranch fundraiser was a success!” said Nicole Quernemoen, one of the Dominican Mission trip leaders. “I think the fundraiser c r e a t e d excitement a n d momentum for our team as we’re making preparations for the Dominican mission trip. Our team bussed tables, welcomed customers, and made conversation with the families eating.”

Even though it was in question

whether or not they would be able to travel to the Dominican Republic after the recent earthquake that took place in Haiti, Nicole and Mr. Preston assured the team at their last meeting that the Dominican Republic is still going to be the destination on April 12th.

The team is taking advantage of many ways

to raise money for their trip. During halftime of most home basketball games, they have encouraged fans to donate one dollar for the opportunity to win a 2-liter

bottle of soda by making a 3-point shot.Another fundraising event is on the

calendar, as well. “We are planning a big pancake fundraiser at Applebee’s on February 27th,” said Nicole. The team will be serving breakfast from 8-10am on Saturday morning for only $5 a plate. There will also be a silent auction.

To help prepare for their upcoming April mission, the team has set up a large toy

chest by the chapel door to collect small toys to share with the children of the

Dominican Republic that they will be ministering to. Donations

are appreciated. The one thing that is absolutely

crucial as the Dominican team prepares is prayer. Nicole Quernemoen encourages others to “Pray for the DR team, the missionaries we will be working with, and the hearts’ of the people we will be able to share the Gospel with.”

Partying It Up in the Boys D orm.The boys dorm hosts a Superbowl party for on campus and off campus kids.by Eli Christofferson

The dream of every fan, player and coach of professional football is to see their team win the Superbowl. A Superbowl win meant everything to New Orleans this past Sunday as their team marched from being a team from a town that was underwater and devas-tated from a hurricane, to being a town that was raised up with its first time Superbowl victory.

The Hillcrest boys dorm was able to watch this memorable game and also threw a “kicking party” said sophomore Nisius McAllister. This Superbowl party had prizes ranging from Snickers to iTunes and Target gift cards. “They drew my name for a snowball thrower thing, I was pumped!” said junior Steinar Hjelset. Names were drawn for prizes at every commercial break and gift cards were given out every quarter to the people who randomly picked the right square on a huge board of chance.

The food consisted of subs and queso dip that was provided by the hill-crest cafeteria and a keg of 1919 Root Beer. “The nachos were so amazing and the root beer from the keg was the best I’ve ever had!” said junior Heather Frustol.

The party drew quite a crowd of on campus, off campus and even some new faces from around Fergus. “Both lounges were packed, I think it was definitely a success. There was tons of food, tons of people, tons of prizes and tons of fun.” said boys dorm head dean Craig Nersten. The girls dorm was closed for this party and for some of the international kids it was their first Superbowl experience.

The Colts fans at the party had expressions varying from dismay to frustration and aggravation as their team lost 17 to 31. However there was almost never a dull moment during the course of the game, and the Colt’s fans and Saints’ fans alike had expressions of enjoyment for the atmosphere sur-rounding the party.

“Although there was an atmosphere of competition between the Saint hopefuls and the Peyton Manning followers, everyone had fun whether or not their team won, and the keg was a big hit.” Said Nersten, “We will definitely make this an annual tradition for years to come.”

Some places they will be visiting
