Fashion and quality at the best price – that is H&M’s basic business concept. Their designers, pattern makers and buyers create H&M’s collections together. It is about creating a good balance between fashion, quality and the best price. That means men, women, youth and children can all find something just for them at H&M – independently of their age, taste or individual style.

Planning the RangeA balanced mix of modern

basics, current fashions and the very latest trends – all within each H&M concept. The H&M range should always reflect what the customers are looking for while inspiring new styles and fashion expressions.

Each H&M concept has its own team of designers, buyers, assistants and pattern makers, which also includes a section manager and a controller.

ProductionH&M does not own any factories. Instead,

clothes and other products are commissioned from around 700 independent suppliers, primarily in Asia and Europe.

All practical aspects are dealt with by our production offices. These production offices, where most of the employees are drawn from the local population, are in constant contact with the suppliers.

The production offices also carry out checks to ensure that production takes place under good working conditions.

Logistics and distribution

The right product has to arrive in the right place, at the right time and at the right cost.

H&M logistics are guided by three important keywords: simplicity, reliability and transparency.

Simplicity – logistics must not become too complicated.

Reliability – the fastest is not always the best. Instead H&M priorities the most reliable and greenest method.

Transparency – information must be exchanged between all links in the logistical chain.

Page 13: H&M

Retailing The store and its display windows are the most important

communication channel H&M has with its customers. The layout of the display windows should suggest a feeling, without taking focus away from the clothes.

The window display – where the customer first meets H&M – is perhaps the most important part of the store. Displays, both in windows and inside the stores, are changed frequently.

Shop onlineH&M Online Shop, now available in eight countries,

including Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and the Nordic region. The latest addition is the UK – one of H&M’s biggest markets. Next year, H&M Shop Online will be available for customers all over the huge market of the US.
