Submarine IDC Medical Program
Mission
To provide training and technical expertise in Undersea Medicine, Radiation Health, and related undersea matters in support of the war-fighter, Naval Operating Forces and our allied worldwide.
Commander’s Intent
To support the U.S. Submarine Fleet Commanders by providing highly qualified enlisted Independent Duty Corpsmen who are specifically trained for submarine duty responsible for the health and well-being of the crew.
Purpose
Submarine IDCs are the sole medical provider onboard U.S. submarines. They are responsible for the health care and health maintenance of the entire crew to include treatment and management of urgent and emergent crisis which may require a MEDEVAC. They also are responsible for Radiation Health administration and responds to onboard Nuclear Casualties, i/e contaminated injured sailor.

Average hours 423-430 hrs (Depends on ED Shifts /Trauma shifts.
TrainingStudents also:
Attend 2 day hands on trauma skills lab at Hartford Hospital.
Attend one week rotation in Anesthesia with Yale Medical Group.
Attend one day GU/ Sensitive Exam course at University of Connecticut.
Attend Clinical Rotations at NMCP, VA and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with a few additional local sites (USM, USCGA, YMG, NSSC).
Training
NUMI uses various training aids and manikins throughout the curriculum and during the Final Evaluation Process (FEP)
ALS Simulator ,G3 SIMMAN (SIM lab located on first floor)
AEDs, GU Pelvic/Breast/Prostate/Foley Catheter Manikins,
Suture Practice Kits, IV Arms, CPR/ACLS Manikins, Moulage kits, etc.
