PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Greetings HR Colleagues! Good things come in small packages. I've always found that expression to be quite accurate when opening the smallest Christmas gift or Valentine box or... technology device--I love my smart phone! So I have a small gift for you--I am excited to tell you that HoCoHRS has a new website: NEW HoCoHRS Website ! (please note the new URL and bookmark this: hocohrs.shrm.org). This is a fantastic website that is co- branded and connected with our parent organization, SHRM (SHRM ) We've had our share of frustration lately over our outdated and complicated old website, and if you've had any kind of experience like this over your own technology choice, then you know that being able to navigate such a key element in our organization's success is quite the milestone. Regardless of how small or large your HR technology needs are, you need to have someone knowledgeable to point you in the right IT direction. You will therefore absolutely want to make plans to attend the HoCoHRS March 20 meeting when our own Bernie Aller presents "7 Steps to the Highly Effective Selection & Transition to a Modern Human Capital Management System." If you haven't had the benefit of experiencing an IT conversion where you work, consider yourself lucky to be able to hear from Bernie about his experience in this arena while providing some guidance before you journey down the HRIS rabbit hole. The HoCoHRS website is still a work in progress-we are working on setting up a PayPal account (and perhaps by the time you read this, the work is done). So please take some time to check the site out http://hocohrs.shrm.org , click on the different tabs, and tell us what you think. We value your

Diversity: An Evolving Workforce The workforce today is ever evolving. Employers are seekingcreative ways to more effectively recruit and hire the besttalent. Recruiting persons with disabilities is one way toenhance your search for qualified job candidates. Hiringdisabled individuals is an untapped labor pool that not onlybuilds diversity within the company, but impacts thecompany's bottom line and its culture. Below are a fewstatistical facts:

54 million people with disabilities = 3rd largestmarket segment.

92% of Americans view companies that hire peoplewith disabilities more favorably.87% of the public prefer to support businesses whohire people with disabilities.70% of disabled Americans say they want to work full-time.Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) of up to 40% ofthe first $6,000, or up to $2,400, in wages paidduring the first 12 months for each new hire.

Therefore, when seeking ways to increase diversity andimpact your company's bottom line, online resources may bea good starting point. An example of a website that you maywant to use as a resource tool is Think Beyond the Label(TBTL). TBTL is a public-private partnership that deliversinformation, outreach and resources to businesses, job seeksand the public workforce system to ensure greater recruitingand hiring opportunities for job candidates with disabilities. TBTL's purpose and message is simple - to better inform, connect and communicate with all stakeholders in thedisability and employment system so that they can be acatalyst for a more inclusive workforce.
