I assure the public that due process was followed within the law, rule, regulations and precepts to ensure legitimate markers were appointed recommended by 5 levels of authority starting with the Schools HoDs, Principals, Subject Advisors and District, etc., to undertake this mammoth task of marking.”, said the Head of Department of Education, Nkosinathi SP Sishi, [PhD]. “This country has under its belt over 75 years of experience in managing the Matric Examination. The first examination was written in 1858. The examination is running for 75 years. On 29 December 2013 the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, [Umalusi] will pronounce a declaration on the state of the examination.” said Dr Sishi. A total of 9 500 markers including administration staff making 10 000 officials were appointed by the Department, that will be working for the next 10 days. Before the marking process began this morning Chief, Deputy and Senior Markers reported 2 days ahead to prepare and get acquainted with the task and responsibility of the Marking Centre. The Province has 27 Marking Centres with a hierarchy of Chief, Deputy and Senior Markers experienced, qualified with specialised expertise to maintain quality and integrity of the marking process from the morning to the afternoon. ‘There is no room for errors. We have Marking Assistance to check on the calculations as markers do get tired at the end. Markers are given ample breaks, breakfast, lunch and supper to ensure alertness and vigilance. For every 5 markers one senior markers is appointed to closely monitor, support and guide the 500 markers that were busy marking Business Studies at the VN Naik Marking Centre in Newlands, West of Durban. I wish you and our learners the best of luck in this most important exit examination after 12 years. The National Minister of Basic Education will officially release the results on 6 January 2013 and our KZN MEC for Education, Ms NP Nkonyeni will officially release the results on 7 January 2013. All schools in the Province of KwaZulu-Natal will have the detailed results ahead of the names being published in the media. We have the Principal, Deputy Principal and Guidance Councillors present to give our learners the required support when collecting their results. Tomorrow is a big day, the National Minister of Basic Education will release the ANA Results.
