Con 50,66% de los votos, el oficialista Nicolás Maduro ganó las cerradas elecciones presidenciales de Venezuela, según lo anunciado por el Consejo Nacional Electoral. Tibisay Lucena, presidenta del CNE, reportó las cifras de una “tendencia irreversible” en las elecciones: Capriles obtuvo el 49,07% de la votación, 1,59 % menos que Maduro, tras el escrutinio del 99.12% de los sufragios. El CNE reportó una participación relativa de 78.71%“Misión cumplida, comandante Chávez”, dijo Maduro, quien fue aplaudido por una

multitud.Cuando se inscribió como candidato a la presidencia el mes pasado, dijo a sus seguidores: “Yo no soy Chávez, pero yo soy su hijo”.

En un acto de campaña, Maduro aseguró a sus seguidores que Chávez se le apareció en forma de un pequeño pájaro para darle apoyo espiritual. Se comprometió a continuar con los esfuerzos de Chávez para construir el “socialismo del siglo 21”, y dijo que su plataforma de campaña consistía en seguir el plan del ex presidente para el país.

El candidato opositor Henrique Capriles Radonski dijo que no va a reconocer los resultados hasta que no se cuenten todos los votos.“El derrotado hoy es usted”, le dijo el candidato opositor a Maduro. “Nosotros le dijimos al gobierno que tenemos un resultado distinto al expresado en la noche de hoy (Abril 14)”, dijo. Capriles aseguró que su equipo está revisando el resultado “detalle a detalle” y que él ganó en

las principales capitales del país.Capriles manifestó que si se suman las “incidencias”, los votos en el exterior y “otros vicios”, el resultado es distinto al anunciado por el CNE. El opositor aseguró que el resultado que presentó el CNE “es sobre la base de 3.200 incidencias”. “Señor Maduro, si usted era ilegítimo, usted hoy está más cargado de ilegitimidad”.“Que se cuente voto por voto”, pidió.

Durante 14 años, Chávez y su gobierno ocultaron indicadores que hoy prefiguran que la situación del país al respecto social y económico, es peor que la que esas cifras muestran. Los venezolanos del 2013 viven entre la inflación, el desabastecimiento, el estancamiento económico, la criminalidad y las deficiencias de los servicios públicos propias de un país en guerra. El país no sabe hoy, por ejemplo, cómo cancelará el próximo mes las pensiones de vejez de 2.4 millones de personas; los recursos para cubrir estos pagos alcanzan a un cuatrimestre en el presupuesto. Y hoy por hoy, los venezolanos padecen de la inflación más alta del continente. Falta el cemento y escasean las medicinas, la acerera estatal Sidor ha dejado de exportar y produce un tercio del hierro que producía en el 2008,

cuando fue expropiada. En el fondo del asunto está Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), que produce 1 millón de barriles menos que en el 2002 también se vende con descuento a Cuba y los países del ALBA; o en el mercado interno, causando una pérdida de $18,000 millones el año pasado. Sus mejores técnicos petroleros (despedidos y obligados a exiliarse por la “revolución”), se le han fugado, así como 8,000 médicos, miles de ingenieros y hombres de negocios. Es muy difícil que las cosas mejoren con Maduro en el poder, ya que su promesa es cumplir el programa que Chávez presentó para el sexenio 2013-19, y es más radical. Muchos consideran que tendrá que dar un giro hacia el libre mercado, solo para mantenerse en el poder.

Para mí no fue una gran sorpresa que Nicolás Maduro ganara las elecciones presidenciales de Venezuela ya que habían demasiados “intereses de por medio” e igual que corrupción. Pero sí me alegró y estoy muy orgullosa de nuestra comunidad Venezolana porque de verdad le echaron ganas y ahora realmente el pueblo venezolano esta dividido y un poco más cerca, aunque todavía muy lejos de la democracia. Triste para los venezolanos demócratas y los países latinoamericanos que están presenciando los efectos del chavismo en sus vida. Y es más triste la

alegría de los líderes izquierdistas del mundo que se salieron con la suya. Aunque van a recontar los votos, (que felicidad me daría que los resultados fueran erróneos), pero solo es un sueño; me da mucha pena la derrota que han sufridos los venezolanos que buscaban un cambio. Por el lado positivo, tenemos al día de las madres a la vuelta de la esquina, ¡y deberían de ir pensando desde ahora como van a complacer a su mamá favorita! It comes as no surprise that Nicolas Maduro won the presidential elections in Venezuela; there were too many “interests at stake” as well as corruption. But I was impressed to see how the Venezuela community fought so hard to bring about a change to their country of origin. Now they are a little closer, although still a long ways, from a democratic government and the country is now evenly divided between socialism and democracy. Votes are being recounted (at press time) but we can only dream that the decision will be overturned. On a positive note, Mother’s Day is just around the corner, so start thinking of that

great gift for your favorite mom! We bring you some gift ideas in this edition. Un asesor del Senado ha confirmado que cualquier inmigrante indocumentado que

entró al país después del 31 de diciembre de 2011 no podrá ser ciudadano estadounidense, según el acuerdo de inmigración establecido y que la “Banda de los ocho” (el grupo de senadores bipartito) hará público el 16 de Abril según un artículo reciente de CNN (hasta el cierre de esta edición). A Senate aide confirmed that any illegal immigrant who entered the country

after December 31, 2011 may not become a U.S. citizen, according to the established immigration agreement that will be made public by the bipartisan group of senators “Band of Eight” on April 16, according to a recent article by CNN (at time of print).Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee had carried the first public hearing on the legislation, some modifications will be made in May and consideration for the full blown Senate bill in June.This measure requires a 13-year path to citizenship, which will affect about 11 million undocumented residents. It also includes the

creation of an evaluation system for border security.The path to citizenship would take 10 years for undocumented workers who want to get a green card for legal work, and then another three years to get their citizenship.Undocumented workers would have to pay a fine and back taxes, and pass a background check. The amount of the fine remains unclear.No undocumented worker would be eligible for citizenship until the borders are considered safe. To measure border security they will create a commission, consisting of officials appointed by state and federal leaders, to establish and evaluate a set of criteria.

Now, he brings his years of excellence to Downtown Hollywood to make a mark here. This family owned business has been around since 1970 in Hallandale Beach, North Miami, Coral Springs, and now in a great location in the heart of Hollywood. “We want to make the restaurant their second home,” says Dominico. Dominic, as friends call him, and son Peter are always there to greet you with a friendly smile and ensure your meal is always made to order “just right” so you will never be disappointed. Some of their signature dishes include Chicken Scarpariello, a signature dish of sautéed chicken with sausage, onions, mushrooms, peperoncini, garlic, deglazed with wine and vinegar; Veal Saltimbocca a la Romana, scaloppini topped with prosciutto, mozzarella, demiglas over spinach; Seared Chilean Seabass to name a

few. Their pastas are accented with delicious homemade sauces; the fish is flown in daily and never frozen. The pizza is made from their Wood Burning Oven. Un aceite de oliva de excelente calidad debe ser extra virgen y “primera presión en frio” (extracción en frio). Y si es orgánico, será muchísimo mejor. El aceite de oliva “extra virgen” es considerado un aceite muy puro y de excelente calidad, ya que está elaborado con aceitunas frescas y perfectamente sanas; mientras que las aceitunas del aceite de oliva “virgen” son un poco más deterioradas y menos frescas. Tanto el aceite “virgen” como el “extra virgen” utilizan la presión en frio, es una forma de extracción muy natural que se hace a bajas temperaturas; lo cual permiten la conservación de todo el sabor y nutrientes de la aceituna (prácticamente la aceituna no sufre ninguna transformación). Some of you might have seen or heard about the recent news regarding a Tulsa, Oklahoma dentist whose use of unsanitary instruments and procedures resulted in possible exposure of his 7,000 patients to HIV and hepatitis viruses and other diseases.Some patients seek cheaper dental treatment by unlicensed dentists that either go to their homes or practice dentistry illegally in offices that do not meet minimum health care standards for dental offices. Becoming infected with HIV, Hepatitis C, B or other life-threatening diseases is only one of the many problems that a patient can end up with when agreeing to receive dental treatment by unlicensed providers and facilities that do not meet the minimum common infection control and universal precaution requirements in order to operate.The American Dental Association (ADA) states that “Infection control procedures” are precautions taken in healthcare settings to prevent the spread of disease. Before you enter the examining room, all surfaces, such as the dental chair, dental light, drawer handles and

countertops must be cleaned and decontaminated. Some offices may cover this equipment with protective covers, which are replaced after each patient. Non-disposable items like the dental tools or hand pieces are cleaned and sterilized between patients. Disposable items like needles or gauze are placed in special bags or containers.Infection control precautions also require all dental staff involved in patient care to use appropriate protective garb such as gloves, and sometimes masks, gowns and eyewear and are discarded later. The Department of Health performs annual inspections to all dental facilities, to ensure that the office complies with the laws and regulations for dental practices. Such permit must be displayed in a visible, accessible area to be seen by all patients.It is very important that you know that your dentist is following these required procedures. Normally, when you have a “craving” for “sugar” it’s because you have low blood sugar, which simply means, you have not eaten in a few hours. When too many hours go by without you eating and you have low blood sugar, what your body needs and is asking for is SUGAR. It is very hard to have strong will power at this point. And this is where most people fail and fall off the wagon. This is when you reach for a cookie, candy, cake, and anything that is in site.How do you prevent this?Well, it’s pretty easy. Don’t allow yourself to get hungry. Eat a small meal every 2-4 hours. This will ensure that you have stable blood sugar throughout the day. Not only will this prevent those raging cravings “for sugar”. But it will also keep your energy level stable and high throughout the entire day. Oh, and let’s not forget……. It will also fuel your muscles so that you have a fit and fabulous body!I know it can sound overwhelming to eat a small meal every 2-4 hours. I mean, in this day and age where life is so busy between the home, the kids, the work, the overtime, the bills, the social life……. Who has time to cook every 2 hours?The good news is I am not asking you to cook every 2 hours, but what I am going to ask you to do is to PREPARE. This is what I live by. Being prepared is the key to getting great results with your body and also in life.If you can think of one day, maybe on the weekend, in which you can invest about an hour, you can cook enough for the whole week. If you can find 2 hours in the week, maybe a weekend day and a day in the middle of the week, that will be even better.Here is what you do:

1.First start by making a menu of what you will eat everyday.2.Make a grocery list.3.Commit a day and time to do the groceries.4.Cook healthy snacks for the week. (I will give you an example below.)5.Prep and/or cook a few meals for the week.If you do this, eating every few hours during the week will be no problem at all. Let me give you an example of a day in the life of Michelle Marie’s Eats.•Breakfast: Oatmeal with cinnamon and Protein Shake•Mid-Morning Snack: Veggie Egg white Omelet or Hard Boiled egg whites and veggies•Lunch: Leftover’s from last night’s dinner (Baked Salmon with Edamame Rice & Roasted Asparagus with sesame seeds).•Mid-Afternoon Snack: Very Berry Protein Muffins & cup of coffee (I’ll give you this recipe).•Dinner: Crockpot Chicken Chili with roasted veggies.Breakfast should be super easy. What you need to have prepped is your snacks. I always make protein muffins, cookies or pancakes to have for quick on the go snacks. There are tons of recipes like that on my website. You can also hard boil some eggs and roast some veggies and have those ready. If you make double batches of what you make for dinner, you will have enough for lunch the next day. And just cook a healthy and quick dinner at night. Plenty of recipe ideas on my website also.There you go, it’s not so bad! Actually it’s quite simple, if you plan and prepare. So get to cooking my friends as it will prevent you from having cravings, prevent you from eating sweets, increase your will power, make you leaner, and give you a more fit and fabulous body.

Always be prepared!Here is the Very Berry Protein Muffin Recipe.Ingredients:1 cup oatmeal1 cup unsweetened applesauce + 1 tbsp10 egg whites1 scoop vanilla protein powder¼ cup flax mealCinnamon to tasteStevia or Coconut or Brown Sugar to taste2 tbsp Freeze-Dried raspberries¼ cup fresh blueberriesInstructions:Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Meanwhile, in a large bowl mix the wet ingredients. Then add the rest of the ingredients except for berries. Fold the berries in at the end and place in a muffin pan. Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands, which are a part of Honduras, lying just over 30 miles from the northern coast of the mainland and 75 minutes by boat from Villa Granada. It is world famous for its scuba diving. The reef surrounding the island attracts beautiful tropical fish, sea turtles, dolphins, and whales.

Nació y se crió en el área y, de hecho, su ceremonia de graduación de la escuela se llevó a cabo en el edificio de Dania Jai-alai . Jimmie’s Chocolate &Café - Fundado en 1946 está ubicado en 148 Federal Highway y es un pintoresco y romántico bistró con exuberante patio donde sirven comida continental con un toque latino, en la parte posterior del restaurante tienen la tienda para los amantes de chocolates que ha sido galardonada por su presentación tan fina.

Grampas-Fundado en 1957, esta ubicado en la SW 1 ST. Y Federal Highway, es un restaurante tradicional con su propia panadería y sirven abundantes platos. Te dan la bienvenida con pasteles gigantes y postres todos hechos en casa.

Datos interesantes y divertidos sobre Dania Beach:

- Dania es la primera ciudad del condado de Broward que proviene del 1888, su

asentamiento Danes fue llamado Modello, luego lo cambian a “Dania”. En 1999 el nombre fue cambiado oficialmente a Dania Beach.

-La casa de “Pirates World”, uno de los mejores y originales parques temáticos de la Florida, incluso antes de Disney.

-Dania es el hogar de uno de los más grandes frontones de jai-alai en los Estados Unidos (y pronto comenzaran con importantes renovaciones )

The City of Dania Beach made a great decision that will change this city forever.

They elected Walter Duke as Mayor of Dania Beach in November of 2009; and after meeting him I understand why so much has happened to the city in a very short three and a half years. He calls the city “a diamond in the rough, just starting to “sparkle”, and he is very proud this quaint city that still has the small town feel although it’s nestled around huge metropolises, an expanding International Airport and one of the largest cruise ship ports in the world. Location, location, location!

The title “Mayor of Dania Beach” fits Walter perfectly. He was born and raised in the area and in fact, his high school graduation ceremony was held in the Dania Jai-alai building. He owns a successful local appraisal business in Dania Beach with his lovely wife, Lisa who is just as enthusiastic about making Dania Beach a special place for residents and visitors. He has two daughters attending the

University of Florida and a younger son living at home.

The city is on the rise and Mayor Duke is making things happen. He is extremely accessible, attending and promoting mostly all city functions and events. He believes in tradition but also recognizes the excitement that new development and diversity will bring to the city. He rolls up his sleeves, even to help clean-up the downtown event, just this past weekend.

While much progress is underway, he recognizes a lot of work yet to be done. His enthusiasm about the city is contagious; I’d like to share some of the “must do’s” that will give you a taste of Dania Beach in the present and Dania Beach in the future, as some of the improvements are just in the planning stages:

The Beach is the premier spot. At the end of Dania Beach Blvd., the beach is pristine with clear blue waters, a prime spot for swimmers, sun-worshipers and kayakers. It is adjacent

to John U. Lloyd State Park, a nature lover’s paradise. If you have not been to Dania Beach in a while, you will be surprised to find the recently- opened nautically-themed “Quarter Deck” restaurant jetting into the ocean and pier. Designed to have a cruise ship-feel with water views on all sides, outside and indoor seating, and bar.

Marine Industry and Education – Dania Beach has numerous boat yards and marinas, back water kayak trails, superb fishing, marine stores, and boat dealers, has just started the re-development of the marina across from the beach, adding 120 new first class boat slips and an improved facility.

The local high school, South Broward High School is a marine magnet school providing local kids with the opportunity to be exposed to many careers in the marine industries and sciences.

Dania Beach is the home of Florida International University’s SeaTech, the nation’s first ocean engineering programs, located just steps from the beach and intra-coastal, the state of the art facility is dedicated to engineering research and technology development in the areas of oceanography, marine vehicles, and more.

Antique Center – Dania Beach was once known as the Antique Capital of the South. Antique Row is just the place to find that special piece. It is a favorite of many South Florida interior designers and the decoration industry. I recommend a weekend afternoon browse through the numerous stores or attend one of the estate auctions that are scheduled on a weekly basis. The recently opened The Gallery of Amazing things that is really gorgeous.

A Vibrant Art’s Scene – The Dania Beach Creative Arts Council Advisory Board was established in May of 2012, with a purpose of supporting creativity and the arts community

through projects, events, and economic development by increasing arts jobs. Dania is the home to many artists including visual arts as well as poets and writers.

The Food - In my family the first question when we are going anywhere is “where are we going to eat?” – A visit to Dania Beach is not complete without stopping at one of these three eating establishments:

Jaxson’s Ice Cream – Established in 1956, an iconic ice creamy and traditional parlor serving oversized helpings of one of the best ice’s cream in the world. It is no surprise that more than one million people visit Jaxson’s yearly.

Jimmie’s Chocolate and Café – Established in 1946 Jimmies is two gems in one. Located at 148 Federal Highway, it is a quaint, romantic, neighborhood bistro with a lush patio area, serving continental cuisine with a Latin flare. In the back is a chocolate lover’s heaven- the chocolate store, award winning chocolate presented so beautifully that it is impossible to pick just one.

Grampas- Established in 1957, and located on Federal Highway and SW 1 Street, Grampas is a traditional diner and bakery serving hearty dishes. You are greeted by giant cakes and desserts all made on the premises. Interesting and Fun Facts about Dania Beach:

- Dania is the first city of Broward County dating back to the 1888’s, the Danish settlement was called Modello, and then changes to “Dania”. In 1999 the name was officially changed to Dania Beach.

-The home of “Pirates World”, one of the best

and original themed parks in Florida, even before Disney.

-Dania is the home of one of the largest Jai-alai frontons in the United States (which will be starting major renovations soon).

-The City of Dania Beach has about 30,000 residents, but is part of South Florida Metro Area which has 6 Million residents.

-Dania was once knows as “Tomato Capital of the World” shipping up to 1,500 railroad carloads north every season

-Dania is the home of International Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum, as well as one of the best Outdoor World

-The Mayor writes a monthly news letter, called the “Duke Report” which you can find on his website http://www.walterduke.com/.
