The first version, with its 12-sided “Pie Pan” dial made a sensation as soon as it was released. In 1955 the company took First Place at both the Neuchatel and Geneva Timing Contents. It was the first time that the same firm, the same brand, succeeded in the same year in leading in all the trials for wrist chronometers.
In 1960 an uninterrupted series of 20,000 automatic Constellation movements obtained Observatory Certificates marked “exceptionally good.” In 1962 more than half of all officially certified Swiss chronometer wristwatches were Omega Constellations – something that Rolex could not come close to.
This quadruple-signed, double-date Constellation model is in excellent order, a solid stainless steel model with “Observatory” engraved screw-down back lid. It measures 41mm lug tip to lug tip and 35mm in width (37mm with original Omega signed crown). In inches this is 1-5/8” long by 1-3/8 wide, not including the Omega winding crown. It has been fully serviced prior to auction and its original Twenty Four jewel, 761caliber mechanism and it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time with a long lasting power reserve.
The

silver, finely brushed, enamel finished dial is in pristine condition. Features include a 60 second outer chapter, applied silver and black hour markers, original silver and black metal hands, quickset numerical date at the 3 position and ‘sweep’ original seconds hand. Signed OMEGA AUTOMATIC CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED with applied silver trademark Omega symbol below the 12 and Constellationwith applied white gold “star” above the 6. It is further signed SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.
The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition, a later addition. The original Omega Constellation case is a Solid Stainless Steel model in excellent condition with no wear, all edges and details are very sharp – in keeping with a watch that was worn but carefully worn. The original Omega-signed steel winding crown is in excellent shape as well, winding and setting smoothly. To quick-set the numerical date you pull the crown out to the SECOND position. To set the time you pull the crown out to the FIRST position.
Turning the watch over I find that the screw-down back lid is stainless steel and in excellent PLUS shape. In the center is the Omega Constellation “Observatory” in raised detail. Note also the 8 stars in the sky – all crisp and detailed like the observatory. This design is the most important thing to look at when you’re buying a Constellation model as no matter how good someone is with polishing a case (or doing other restoration work) he or she can’t hide the wear to the back lid detailing.
Peeking inside I find a rose gold finished mechanism that is signed Omega Watch Co., Swiss [Caliber] 761 – Adjusted Five [5] Positions & Temperature, Twenty Four 24 Jewels. The serial number is #28,016,825 – dating the watch to 1969 as per Omega production records. The inside of the case back is finely engine turned and signed OMEGA WATCH CO., FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE – STAINLESS STEEL – SF168.027.
This watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate time. To quickset the numerical date you pull the crown OUT to the second position (and then back in) to advance an entire day. Before doing that, you need to set the day of the week first, and there is a shortcut where you can move the hands past midnight and then back to 8pm to advance from Wednesday to Thursday, etc.
It comes fitted on new 19mm black calfskin leather strap with matching steel buckle.

In my travels I see many watches, some very high quality, some rare and others quite beautiful. The following “Cocktail” evening watch checks all the boxes, I

think, and if you think it looks nice in the photographs you’ll be even more pleased with it in person.
It was made by the Croton Watch Co. of Switzerland, a respected name that was part of Nivada Watch of Gretchen, Switzerland founded by Jacob Schneider in 1926. This Art Deco “Baguette” model dates to the late 1930s and features a Solid Platinum case that is adorned with 30 Genuine Diamonds, all securely set.
Its hinged-back case measures 36mm lug tip to lug tip and 10mm in width (11.8mm with original winding crown). This works out to be 1-3/8 inches long by 3/8 of an inch wide, not including the crown. It is fitted on a black color cord bracelet strap that measures a total length of 7-1/2 inches and I can also adjust the band to any size wrist, shorter or longer, at no charge. Powering this watch is its original Croton 17 jewel, manual wind mechanism, fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David prior to auction to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, matte enamel finished dial is in mint condition, professionally restored to its correct status. It features a 60 minute checkered outer track border, black enameled Arabic style numerals and original blue steel spade-style hands. Signed “CROTON” below the 12 and SWISS at the base of the dial.
The solid glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition with no flaws. The two-piece, hinged back “Baguette” form case is also in excellent condition, a late Art Deco design with fancy elliptical lugs. It is Solid Platinum (10% precious metal Iridium and 90% Platinum) and features Thirty 30 Genuine Diamonds (including two Baguette style) of high clarity that simply SPARKLE. The matching and original winding crown is in excellent shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent shape with no wear or engravings – very clean. Peeking inside via the hinged back lid I find a clean manual wind movement that is signed Croton W. Co, 17 Seventeen Jewels, Swiss –3,173,411. The inside of the back lid is stamped 10% IRDIUM - PLATINUM .
This lovely timepiece has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with a correct old store stock black cord bracelet strap with matching color fittings. This band will fit a wrist up to 7-1/2 inches and I can custom size this strap for the winner, larger or

Founded by Swiss immigrant Albert Wittnauer in New York City, the Wittnauer Watch Company. became a business in 1880, when the brand was “officially” introduced. Albert, along with his brother Louis (and later Emile) imported complete watches or just mechanisms from its Geneva, Switzerland factory. In 1889 the company ran its very first advertisement. Appearing in the twentieth anniversary issue of the Jewelers’ Weekly, the ad notes that the company sold both “plain and complicated” watches, suggesting that it was a source for chronographs and repeating watches.
By the 20th century they were firmly established as providing watches, chronometers and military timing devices to the military, famed early explorers and the general public, and are on record for producing the first waterproof watch called the “All Proof” in 1918. Long associated with the Longines Watch Co. via a US partnership the firm is now owned by Bulova, once a great competitor.
I am happy to offer for sale what’s probably my favorite post WWII Wittnauer model – a men’s “Cat Ear” Tank form watch that dates to the late 1940s. This Retro Modern era timepiece is a “Revue” model (the company’s top of the line), crafted of 14kt Solid Yellow Gold and is in excellent PLUS condition inside and out – my photos don’t do it justice. Quadruple signed for Wittnauer (dial, winding crown, case & mechanism), it measures 37.5mm end to end and 25.5mm in width (27mm with signed crown). This works out to be 1-1/2 inches in length by 1 inch wide (not including the crown) or 1-1/8 inches with the crown. My trusted watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 17 jewel, manual wind Swiss mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The black enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its original status and very nicely done. It features a 60 minute gold outer track border, raised gold Breguet style numerals, original gold Leaf-style hands and a square, recessed seconds dial with ‘sweep’ gold seconds hand. Signed WITTNAUER below the 12, REVUE above the seconds dial and SWISS below the seconds dial.
The gently curved crystal is in excellent condition and without flaw. The Solid 14 Karat Yellow Gold case is in excellent PLUS shape, a classic square Tank style with those nice and fancy “Cat Ear” lugs. The original Wittnauer-signed gold winding crown is in

excellent shape as well, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the 14 karat solid gold back lid is in excellent PLUS order with no wear or engravings of any kind, it is truly stellar. Peeking inside I find a Seventeen Jewel, manual wind mechanism that is signed Wittnauer Watch Co., Seventeen 17 Jewels, Swiss – [Caliber] 76 Revue, AXA. The inside of the case lid is stamped WITTNAUER – NEW YORK, GENEVA MONTREAL, L&K - 14KT GOLD with case number below.
This cleaned, oiled & regulated watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping very good, accurate time. It is fitted on a new and high quality 16mm black deBeer hand crafted lizard grain strap, ready to be worn and enjoyed. So that’s the story, an excellent condition Retro Modern solid gold watch made by one of the better Swiss watch companies of the 20th century – one of my favorites from the Wittnauer.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. The history of the Girard-Perregaux Watch Company begins in 1791, when the watchmakers Bautte and Mouline founded a factory in Geneva to manufacture watches. In 1856 the watchmaker constant Girard married Marie Perregaux and the unified firm of “Girard – Perregaux” came into being. In 1906 G. Perregaux acquired the earlier firm of Bautte and Mouline, and today the firm is located in La Chaux-de-Fonds. They have always made a name for themselves in the realm of wristwatches through their unique creativity and high quality mechanisms, one of a select few who produce many of its movements entirely in-house. Today, Girard Perregaux watches are among the most expensive timepieces money can buy.
Over the years I have seen my share of unique dials, some made of wood, others sterling silver engraved, even rock. This is the first time, however, that I have offered a “Marbleized Green” dial before and it belongs to a men’s Girard Perregaux Retro Modern watch model that is Old Store Stock, never sold or worn since it was made in the late 1960s. It comes complete with its matching suede green Girard-Perregaux band (and signed buckle) and even has its original G-P factory sticker on the back lid. No box though, just the watch as you see it.
Quadruple signed for G-P, its 14kt Yellow Gold Electroplated case measures 36.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 28.5mm in width (30mm with G-P signed gold crown). In inches this works out to be 1-11/16” long by 1-1/8” wide, not including the crown. My certified watchmaker David has fully serviced its original and high quality 17 jewel, manual wind Girard Perregaux mechanism and it runs smoothly and keeps accurate time.
The 100% original marbleized green dial is in MINT condition – guaranteed untouched since it left the factory. It features applied gold and black

hour markers and original gold and black (lacquered) hands. Signed GIRARD PERREGAUX below the 12 and SWISS at the base of the dial.
The original solid glass crystal is in excellent condition and clear. The two-piece, Girard-Perregaux signed case is 14 Karat Yellow Gold Electroplated and in excellent - mint shape – it has NEVER been used or worn. The original and matching gold finished winding crown features the GP raised letters marking and is in flawless shape, operating as it should.
Turning the watch over, I note that the snap-down back lid 14kt Yellow Gold Electroplated, free of any personal engravings and in pristine condition. Note the original tri-color sticker on the back, it reads “Girard Perregaux – Fine Watches Since 1791.” Inside I find a clean and higher grade mechanism signed Girard Perregaux – 17 Jewels, Swiss –091-303. The lack of import markings or adjustment count lets me know this watch was not meant to retail in the United States and was likely a European market model. Not until the First World War would the wristwatch be considered an everyday necessity for the gentleman, although their use by troops is noted during the Boer War, albeit limited. Prior to the Great War, watches were considered “women’s jewelry” and too effeminate for the discerning man. WWI would change this, putting the watch on the wrists of soldiers fighting in the trenches of Europe, this event having repercussions once the soldier returned home.
As one 1919 advertisement promoting wristwatches for gentlemen states, such devices were “manly watches for manly men – any man so out of date as to consider the wristwatch effeminate need only learn the kind of men who use them…the fighting men, the soldiers in the World War, the military and naval men the world over, the big game hunters, the aviators, motorists, yachtsmen.” By the end of the 1920s, wristwatch production would surpass pocket watch output at most U.S. factories and Swiss factories, a trend that became more pronounced over

time.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following WWI era military trench watch, an original example that dates to 1917 and is in great condition. This watch was owned by R.B. Watson of Neffs, Ohio, as inscribed on the back lid, something that most collectors like to see when it comes to First World War watches (the majority that saw active duty were signed in case they were lost or stolen during battle).
This example was made by the venerable American Waltham Watch Company of Waltham, Massachusetts, truly the grandfather of U.S. horology and an American legend.
It is set within an “Off-set” wind, Silverode case with wire lugs – indiciative of the transitional period in which it was made. The advantage of this offset design was that a small pendant or pocket movement (with crown at the 12) could be placed into a wristwatch case but still allow the wearer to quickly see the time. This was easier than a case with lugs at the 9 and 3 positions where the watch itself would be sitting sideways on the wrist.
It measures 40.5mm from wire lug tip to wire lug tip and 33mm in width (37mm with original Onion style crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-5/8 inches by just over 1-1/4 inches wide, not including the crown, and it is fitted on a vintage style (but new) Kitchener style strap that can be worn with or without the central pad. This watch has been fully serviced prior to auction, ensuring its original manual wind mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping very good, accurate time.
The 100% original dial is in excellent condition, no hairlines or chips, very nicely done. While originally a radium finished dial, I have redone the hands and numbers in a 100% safe, non-toxic material that mimics the look of aged radium. It features a black 60 minute outer track border, Arabic numerals, original steel blue hands (with matching but recently added fill) and a recessed sub-seconds dial with ‘sweep’ blue steel original seconds hand. Signed WALTHAM in black enamel letters below the 12.
The acrylic crystal is a recent addition in excellent shape. The three-piece, “Silverode” case was made by the Philadelphia Watch Case Co. for Waltham and it is in very good condition, complete with secure and solid wire lugs. Other names for this case material was “Silveroid” (Keystone W.C. Co.), “Silverine” (Dueber W.C. Co. and “Silverore” (Fahys W. C. Co.). The metallurgical analysis of these cases shows them to be 54% copper, 45% nickel and 1% manganese. The original Onion-style silver winding crown is in great

Page 16: holben/Descriptions/December 19... · Web viewIt measures 41mm lug tip to lug tip ... you need to lift the watch up and away from the center pad so you

shape with a secure stem sleeve. It winds and sets very smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the snap-down back lid has been engraved for its original owner, most likely a soldier during WWI. It is marked “R.B. Watson – Neffs, Ohio” and it shows some typical scratches and light wear but still very clean and solid. I believe the first initial is for “Ralph” (Ralph B. Watson) based on some preliminary research. Inside I find a clean 2/3 bridge, Seven 7 Jewel mechanism with fancy damaskeening (engraving) on all the top plates. It is signed A.W.W. Co., Waltham, Mass with serial number #20,084,620. This serial number corresponds to Waltham’s early 1917 production records. The inside case lid is clearly stamped Philadelphia Watch Case Co. – Silverode with case number below.
This watch has been cleaned, oiled and regulated, winding and setting smoothly while keeping very good, accurate time. It comes complete with a new (but vintage style) Kitchener style Bund strap with matching color buckle. I also sell these straps at my eBay sister store (holbensfinewatchbands) and I think they do a great job of beefing up vintage trench watches. To easily WIND the watch, you need to lift the watch up and away from the center pad so you can fit your index finger underneath and wind with the opposite hand. All in all an honest and well preserved example of what many of the men in Europe were wearing during the war that was supposed to end all wars. Being an off-set example makes it that much more interesting.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. he’s about 110 (in human years) and doesn’t have all his marbles!

The story of the Eterna Watch Co. of Grenchen, Switzerland reads as a long list of achievements in the world of horology…countless innovations have originated from its factory, and they are prized watches amongst those “in the know,” primarily collectors in Europe and Japan. The quality is remarkable, and one look at their movements tells the story, very high grade.
Founded on November 7, 1856, the first Eterna watch factory began producing pocket watch movements, quickly followed by complete timepieces. Urs Schild took control of the company in 1866, and was noted as the inventor of the pocket “alarm” watch (which Schild patented in 1908) for use on the wrist.
Through the 1930s and onwards the company had a succession of technical innovations, teamed with its movement-making subsidiary ETA. This included the smallest serially-produced wristwatch, with a baguette movement, in 1930; an eight-day alarm in the early thirties; the first Eterna automatic (self-winding) wristwatch in 1938 - a men's model with a swinging winding-weight; an automatic wristwatch in 1942, considered remarkably small and thin for its time; and the futuristic winding-rotor

on ball-bearings launched in 1948 for the Eterna-Matic self-winding wristwatches. Sorry if this introduction is a bit long but I wanted to emphasize that these watches were every bit as good (if not sometimes better) as Omega and Longines models from the same period.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following original men’s Eterna model – a quintessential ETERNA-MATIC 1000 model from ca 1960. This rotor automatic timepiece is in excellent condition, complete with a crisp solid stainless steel case and original Eterna-signed stainless steel band with deployment clasp.
Five-times signed for Eterna (dial, crown, case, mechanism & band), it measures 40mm lug tip to lug tip and 35mm in width (35.5mm with recessed Eterna-signed crown). In inches this works out to be just shy of 1-5/8” long by 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting the crown. It is powered by its original and higher-grade 21 jewel, rotor automatic movement (1478 K caliber, Swiss Patented) that has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David to ensure it winds smoothly and runs accurately. The ivory color (antique white), enamel finished dial is in excellent condition and has been professionally restored to its correct, original status. It features applied silver hour markers, original silver metal hands with luminous inserts and ‘sweep’ original silver center seconds hand. Signed ETERNA-MATIC 1000 below the 12 with raised “five star” company trademark.
The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent shape with no flaws. The two-piece case is solid stainless steel and in excellent PLUS condition, no wear or scratches. The matching and original Eterna-signed (five stars) winding crown is also in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is stainless steel, screw down in design and in excellent shape with no personal engravings. It carries the serial number 3359275 (visible with a loupe). Inside is a beautiful and higher end mechanism signed ETERNA-MATIC – BREVETE with caliber number 1478K stamped below the balance wheel. You will note that this watch does not have the jewel count mentioned, nor the number of adjustments or three letter company code. All these things were required for watches exported to the United States so this tells me the watch was most likely a European market model. You will also note the “BREVETE” word – telling us that the mechanism had a Swiss patent associated with it. The inside of the case lid is stamped 133 IT - ETERNA

It is fitted on its original 20mm wide (at the lugs) stainless steel bracelet, stamped “ETERNA” on the fold-away clasp. It is in excellent shape and will fit a wrist up to 7-3/4 inches maximum (easily adjusted smaller by adjusting pins in clasp or removing links). I am also including a new men’s 20mm black deBeer Europa handcrafted lizard grain strap with matching steel buckle so you have options. All in all an elegant and higher-end Swiss Eterna for the collector “in the know” – it’s a really great watch and one that I wish I could keep a while longer.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Founded by Ernest Francillon and Auguste Agassiz in the year 1832, the Longines Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in the “Long Meadows” (translated: Longines) near the town of St. Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, their wristwatches are among the best in the world, on par with the “big boys” of the Swiss watch making profession including its chief rival Omega.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Longines timepiece, a men’s flared lug, Tank form model that dates to ca 1946. This watch is in excellent PLUS condition, complete with a larger size, spotless dial.
Triple-signed, its 10kt Yellow Gold filled case measures 36mm lug tip to lug tip and 25.5mm in width (27.5mm with winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-3/8 inches long by 1 inch wide, not including the crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, 10L caliber manual wind Longines mechanism that has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David just prior to auction, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in flawless condition, professionally restored to its correct status. Signed LONGINES below the 12 and SWISS at the base of the dial.
The solid glass crystal is in excellent condition and clear. The case is a two-piece design that is 10 Karat Yellow Gold Filled and in excellent to mint condition, absolutely spotless with nicely flared lugs. The winding crown, unmarked, is in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the 10k gold

I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s Girard Perregaux WWII era military model – a mid 1940s example with an original and untouched dial that has beautifully aged to the color of parchment. This non-ordnance military service watch (much like the very similar Seahawk model of the same period) features a Swiss patented (Brevet +) hermetic design two-piece stainless steel case, best to see the photo below to see how it comes apart!
Triple-signed, it measures 38.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 32mm in width (34mm with original notched crown). In inches this works out to be just over 1-1/2” long by 1-1/4” wide, not including the winding crown. My trusted watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 17 jewel, manual wind mechanism and it runs smoothly and keeps accurate time.
The 100% original enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – originally an ivory color that has, over time, turned a parchment color. I love original dials like this and it looks

Page 26: holben/Descriptions/December 19... · Web viewIt measures 41mm lug tip to lug tip ... you need to lift the watch up and away from the center pad so you

great in person. It features a 60 second outer track border (calibrated to 1/5 of a second for precision), Arabic numerals, original blue steel Diamond-shaped hands with luminous fill and original ‘sweep’ dark red center seconds hand with arrow tip. Signed GIRARD-PERREGAUX 1791 below the 12.
The hardened acrylic crystal with armored ring is in excellent condition, a new old stock addition. The two-piece G-P signed case with nice faceted lugs is a hermetic design that requires removing the body of the watch (as shown in the photo above) and then removing the crystal and crown/stem to access the mechanism. It is stainless steel and in excellent condition (this case was also used for Sea Hawk models). The original notched winding crown is stainless steel as well, in excellent shape and operating as it should.
Turning the watch over, I note that the back lid is free of any personal engravings and is in excellent condition – absolutely spotless. As I can’t open this watch without taking it apart I had my watchmaker David take the photos of the mechanism and inside back lid. The mechanism is signed Girard Perregaux & Co. – Seventeen 17 Jewels – B16 - 3824 –Swiss, GXM.
The inside of the back lid is finely engine-turned and signed Girard Perregaux Swiss – Brevet + - Stainless Steel – 5210. The word “Brevet” refers to its registered/patented case design.
This timepiece has been fully serviced (disassembled, cleaned, oiled & regulated) to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes complete with a new 16mm black alligator (grain) calf leather strap with steel buckle. All in all an excellent and original WWII era timepiece from one of Switzerland’s better watch firms…thanks for dropping by and happy holidays!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and relative value that are important to the seasoned watch collector.
Omega strongly reaffirmed its position as a collector’s brand in 2007 when Antiquorum held its “Omegamania” theme sale in Geneva, Switzerland. The prices realized vastly exceeded pre-auction estimates and set new records for many older models. Yes folks, good vintage Omega watches are only going UP in value.
I am happy to offer for sale the following

vintage Omega timepiece, an all-original ladies “Cocktail” model that dates to ca 1966. This Evening style watch is in excellent condition inside and out – a mid-century design in 10kt White Gold fill with fanciful lugs and faceted crystal that is as elegant today as when it was made over 45 years ago.
Quadruple-signed for Omega (dial, winding crown, case & mechanism), it measures 26.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 15mm in width (16.5mm with original Omega-signed crown). This equates to just over 1 inch long by 5/8 of an inch wide, including the winding crown. It is fitted on its matching (and possibly original) Hadley 10k White Gold filled mesh bracelet in excellent shape, able to fit a wrist 5-1/2 to 6-3/4 inches in size. Its original 17 jewel, manual wind Omega mechanism has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver color, finely brushed enamel finished dial is in excellent order, guaranteed untouched since it left the factory. It features raised silver markers (some with black lacquer contrast) and black lacquer over silver metal hands. Signed OMEGA below the 12 markers (with Omega symbol) and SWISS at the base of the dial, partially concealed by fancy faceted crystal.
Speaking of the crystal, it is in excellent original condition – the faceting adding a nice “sparkle” to the overall look. The two-piece case is 10 Karat White Gold Filled and in excellent condition. The matching and original white gold winding crown is in excellent shape, signed with the Omega symbol and operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent condition like the rest of the watch and with no wear or inscriptions, truly pristine. It is stamped “10k Gold Filled” along the side. Peeking inside I find a clean Seventeen Jewel, manual wind movement that is stamped Omega Watch Co. - Seventeen 17 Jewels, [Caliber] 484, Swiss, OXG. The serial number of #23,625,296 dates this watch to 1966 as per published production records. The inside case lid is stamped OMEGA WATCH CO. , ROSS – AA5283, 68980.
This watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with what could be its original mesh 10k White Gold filled band in excellent condition – a Hadley USA example that will fit a wrist 5-1/2 inches to 6-3/4 inches in size. Folks, this is truly an excellent vintage cocktail watch – as nice

In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. My favorite Swiss watch company, Omega is one of the very few firms to combine name recognition, high quality and value for your vintage watch buying dollar, key factors in determining any purchase.
My long-time customers often ask what brands are smart to collect in today’s market and I always include Omega in my synopsis. Not just the Constellation and Seamaster models but any pre 1970 model that has a strong design and is in above average shape.
The following is a desirable Caliber 267 example that dates to ca 1957, a larger size gentleman’s model in excellent order. This example is unique for being made for the British market, its Omega-signed case (by Dennison) crafted of 9kt Solid Yellow Gold and very clean. The technical name for the 267 calibre was the 30 T4 PC and it was one of the famous “30mm” ligne series that Omega produced that are very popular amongst collectors (for good reason, they are fantastic mechanisms).
Triple-signed, it measures 41mm lug tip to lug tip and 34mm in width (35.5mm with gold finished crown) or 1-5/8 inches long by just under 1-3/8 inches wide, not including the winding crown. Its original rose gold finished, 267 caliber mechanism has been fully serviced to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its original status and very nicely done – arguably nicer in person. Features include a 60 minute outer chapter, applied solid gold hour markers and numerals, original yellow gold colored (metal) Dauphine-style hands and a circular, slightly recessed sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer track and ‘sweep’ gold metal seconds hand. Signed OMEGA below the 12 with applied gold Omega symbol.
The hardened acrylic crystal is a new old stock example in excellent condition. The three-piece case is 9 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and fully signed Omega, in excellent order. The case was made for Omega in England by Dennison, a famous UK case maker who also cased British market Rolex watches and was one of the founders of Waltham Watches in the USA. The winding crown, unmarked, is a

matching gold finish in excellent shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent shape with no wear or engravings. Inside is its original rose gold finished mechanism that is signed Omega Swiss, 17 Jewels, [Cal] 267. The serial number is #15,599,793 - dating the watch to ca 1957 as per company production records. You will also see a solid gold hallmark on the bottom right lug. The inside of the original case lid is stamped 13339 – DENNISON, MADE IN ENGLAND - OMEGA WATCH CO., 9 -.375 – Anchor – A.L.D., 869,981. The “anchor” is the Birmingham, England assay mark and A.L.D. is for Aaron L. Dennison.
This watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with a new 18mm black lizard grain leather strap. I am also including the original gold filled link bracelet that was on the watch when I purchased it – it is not marked for any content (the clasp is gold over stainless steel) and it’s in excellent shape – very attractive looking too. All in all an elegant, comparatively larger, midcentury timepiece from one of the finest Swiss watch makers – I think the winner is going to be very pleased with this one.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. In its glory years from the 1920s through the 1940s, the Gruen Watch Company of USA & Switzerland was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even collaborating with Rolex (i.e., the Aegler movement duo-dial doctor’s watch) from its factories in Switzerland. Prior to WWII, Gruen was better known in the USA than Rolex, which at that time was concentrating on the British and Commonwealth countries (hence lots of early Rolexes coming out of Australia and the UK). Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland (their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as Rolex Gruen in Europe, but the Great Depression and more urgent matters prevented this.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece from the Gruen firm, a ¾ size gents Veri-Thin Precision model that dates to the late 1940s and in excellent condition. This triple-signed watch is a striking 10kt ROSE Gold Filled example with matching rose gold dial and “Teardrop” lugs.
As noted above, this is a ¾ size men’s watch, also referred to as a Boy’s Size, ideal for a woman’s wrist by today’s standards (and who I think is best suited to wear it today) albeit smaller men’s watches were rather common back then. It measures 35mm end to end and 28.5mm in width (30mm with rose gold crown). This works out to be 1-3/8 inches long

by 1-1/8 inches wide – not including the winding crown. It is powered by its original and high quality 17 jewel “Precision” 410SS caliber Veri-Thin mechanism that has been fully serviced by my watchmaker David – ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The two-tone rose gold and silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – professionally restored to its original status. It features a 60 second outer track border (calibrated to 1/5 of a second for precision), raised gold Arabic numerals, original gold metal sword hands and ‘sweep original gold metal center seconds hand. Signed GRUEN VERI-THIN PRECISIONI below the 12 in black enamel lettering.
The gently domed acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The two-piece case is comprised of a 10 Karat Rose Gold Filled body and lugs with a Stainless Steel (“Guildite”) back lid. simply superb, It is in excellent PLUS condition – even nicer than my photos show. The original and matching rose gold winding crown is in excellent shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent PLUS condition - stamped “base metal” but this refers to the base material of the 10k Rose Gold Filled body/bezel. Taking a peek inside I find a clean and high quality manual wind movement, signed Gruen Watch Co., Precision- Seventeen 17 Jewels, Switzerland- Veri-Thin, Patented – [Caliber] 410SS, GXC. The inside of the case lid is signed GRUEN VERI-THIN, CASED & TIMED IN U.S.A. BY GRUEN WATCH CO., WADSWORTH, 10K GOLD FILLED, GUILDITE BACK – 410/496 SS.
