This works out to be 1-5/8 inches long by 1 inch in width – not including the crown. It has been fully serviced prior to auction and its original 15 Jewel, manual wind USA made mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – professionally restored to its correct status. It features a black 60 minute outer track border, raised gold Deco style numerals, original gold metal Spade-style hands and a recessed, tonneau shaped seconds dial with detailed 60 second outer chapter and “sweep” original gold seconds hand. Signed BULOVA in raised gold letters below the 12.
The solid glass crystal is gently curved and in mint condition. The case is 10kt Rolled Gold Plated (with stainless steel back) and in great to excellent condition, just a bit of rub on the lugs. Note how the case features ridged/stepped sides – this has to be one of my favorite 1930s or 1940s Bulova models. The original, unmarked yellow gold finished winding crown is in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent condition and stamped with reference number #1674969. Peeking inside I discover a clean and fully serviced Fifteen Jewel, manual wind movement, signed Bulova Watch Co., U.S.A. – 15

Jewels – [Caliber] 10AX (the 10AX caliber was used in many WWII Bulova Ordnance watches). There is also a date code (star like) stamped on the mechanism, indicating a 1941 production date. The inside of the case lid is stamped BULOVA – 10K Rolled Gold Plate Bezel, Stainless Back - NEW YORK.
Fully cleaned, oiled and regulated just prior to auction, this timepiece winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with a new black alligator calf strap with matching gold finished buckle. All in all an excellent “Dean” model Bulova that should give a few Curvex watches a run for their money!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers.

As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"…keep in mind

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in Le Sentier, Valee de Joux in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre. After 170 years it is still one of the most important manufacturers of ebauches (raw movements), and has supplied mechanisms to almost all the notable producers of luxury watches, including Vacheron & Constantin and Patek Philippe. Merging with the Alsatian watch factory of Edmond Jaeger in 1925, the name “Jaeger LeCoultre” soon appeared on wrist watch dials. They are a “watch collectors” watch and rank as investment-grade timepieces.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece from the LeCoultre firm, a ladies Mid-Century Retro Modern model in 18kt Solid White Gold that dates to the mid/late 1950s and is in FLAWLESS condition. When it comes to amazing Asymmetrical watch designs LeCoultre had it all figured out, producing a series of uniquely shaped ladies watches in the 1950s and early 1960s.
Triple-signed, it measures 30mm end to end and 15mm in width (17mm with winding crown). This works out to be 1-3/16 inches long by 5/8 of an inch wide, including the crown, and it is fitted on a 10mm black crocodile grain strap that will fit a wrist 5-1/4 to 6-3/4 inches in size. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original and high grade 17 jewel LeCoultre mechanism, insuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory white color, matte enamel finished dial is in flawless condition, professionally restored to its original status. It features applied white gold hour markers and original silver steel hands. Signed LeCoultre below the 12 marker and Swiss at the base of the dial.
The rectangular crystal, removed in some photos to minimize glare, is in excellent condition and with no flaws. The original LeCoultre-signed case is 18 Karat Solid White Gold and in excellent PLUS condition, an offset “stepped” design that must be seen to be appreciated. I can’t recall ever seeing this model (or any ladies LeCoultre) in 18kt before, the vast majority were either 10k gold filled or 14k solid gold. The winding crown is a matching white gold-finish and unmarked. It too is in excellent shape and operates smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent shape with no personal

engravings or wear. It is stamped 18K as shown. Inside I find a high-grade Seventeen Jewel mechanism that is signed LeCoultre Co. – Seventeen 17 Jewels, [Caliber] 490/BW – Swiss – VXN . The serial number is 1,007,322. The inside case lid is stamped Cased and Timed in USA by LeCoultre – 18K GOLD with the letter “L” as well. This letter stands for the Arnold Lemieux Watch Case Company.
This watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new old stock 10mm black Kreisler crocodile (grain) calf leather band with matching color buckle. Ladies and gentlemen, this is an excellent example of a mid-century “Retro Modern” Swiss timepiece. Being a rarely seen 18kt solid gold LeCoultre with an amazing case design also means it should prove to be a great investment over time.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Founded in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start its watch production until March 1894, having first chosen the name Columbian Watch Co. but this name was already copyrighted by the Waterbury Co. The name "Hamilton" was derived from Lancaster’s founding father, Mr. Andrew Hamilton, a Scottish-born attorney who was instrumental in the growth of Lancaster.
By 1908 Hamilton was producing a lady’s pendant watch and during the WWI period a small line of military style watches were available for men. Hamilton never looked back, arguably producing the highest quality American made watches from the 1920s through the 1960s.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Hamilton timepiece, a men's Solid Stainless Steel Steeldon model. Introduced in 1949, the Steeldon was part of Hamilton's limited "CLD" (sealed) series of watches, all featuring hermetic, water-tight cases.
Triple-signed for Hamilton, its two-piece case measures 39mm end to end and 31mm in width (33.5mm with original Hamilton cld crown). In inches this works out to be just over 1-1/2 inches long by just shy of 1-1/4 inches wide, not counting the crown. It is powered by its original and high quality 18 jewel, Hamilton USA manual wind mechanism, fully serviced by my talented watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, Butler enamel finished dial is in pristine condition, professionally restored by the best in the country when it comes to Hamilton and without flaw. It features a 60 second numbered outer chapter, applied 18kt solid white gold numerals, original leaf-style silver steel hands and a ‘sweep’ silver original center seconds hand with ARROW tip. Signed HAMILTON

below the 12 with “cld” below this.
The hardened acrylic crystal is in flawless condition – the correct design and type for the CLD model. The two-piece case (its unique water-tight design PATENTED by Hamilton) is solid stainless steel and in excellent to mint condition with fancy peaked lugs, like the day it left the factory. It fits together nice and TIGHT. The original, slightly oversized stainless steel winding crown is a design unique to the CLD models and is in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is a bubble back design and signed U.S. PATENT 2457062 - HAMILTON at one edge and STAINLESS STEEL on the opposite edge. This case back is in excellent PLUS condition and has never been engraved or probably even polished.
To access the mechanism you first remove the bezel and then separate the two section stem to remove the mechanism from the case. The mechanism is signed Hamilton [Grade] 748, Adjusted – 18 Jewels, USA with serial number CY92,174 – indicating a ca 1951 production date. The inside case lid is further signed STEELDON -HAMILTON W. CO., LANCASTER, PA with case number below. The case maker initials of S&W stand for Schwab & Wuischpard, a prominent American case maker (Wuischpard is still in the case business today).
This watch has been fully serviced to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very good, accurate time. It comes complete with a new 16mm black lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching color buckle. This is only my second “Steeldon” model I’ve ever sold and I think it’s a fantastic watch both visually and structurally – a sharp stainless steel vintage American timepiece with a top shelf 18 jewel mechanism.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers.

As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"…keep in mind

The Illinois Watch Co. of Springfield, Illinois (1870 – 1933) is quite arguably the most respected American watch firm ever to exist. The Bunn family produced wristwatches that best exemplified the feeling and look of the early 20th century, clearly in tune with the style and mood of the era. A higher-end watch in its day, Illinois quality is unsurpassed.
The Illinois firm would be sold to the Hamilton Watch Co. (Lancaster, PA) in 1929 – only to succumb to the Great Depression shortly thereafter, as Hamilton could not afford to keep both factories operating. The Springfield, Illinois factory would close for good in early 1933. Given that the firm only made wristwatches for a very brief time (and arguably better than any other US firm), their rareness and value is markedly increased.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s watch from the firm, a handsome Square Form model (also known as the “Stephen”) that dates to 1927. Along with the Canby (rectangular) Illinois, the Square was among the first men’s

wristwatch advertised by the Illinois Watch Company, pre-dating the “named” models by a couple of years. These models were also called jobbers as one could go into a jewelry store and pick out the Illinois movement and dial and then the case, separately.
Featuring a “Seconds at 9” dial, this 14kt Green Gold filled watch measures 36mm end to end and 28mm in width (30.5mm with crown). This works out to be just over 1-3/8 inches long by 1-1/8 inches wide, not including the winding crown. My trusted and talented watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 15 jewel, manual wind mechanism – the larger 3/0 size (some of these Square models had smaller 6/0 size movements). As such, it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The original single sunk, two-tone finish dial has been professionally restored and is in excellent condition. It features a 60 minute outer track border, luminous painted Arabic numbers, luminous-filled blue steel hands (later replacements) and a crisp sub-seconds dial at the Nine Position with silver engine-turned background, 60 second outer chapter and ‘sweep’ blue steel seconds hand. Signed ILLINOIS in curving letters below the 12.
The solid glass crystal is clear and in mint condition. The three piece case was made by the Illinois Watch Case Co. and is a 14 Karat GREEN Gold filled “Tivoli” example. It is in excellent shape and features engraved “flower detail” lugs and engraved case sides. Green gold was popular for about a decade, beginning around 1920. It is similar to yellow gold but has green alloys in it as well to give it its “hue”. The gently domed winding crown is in great shape (possibly a later replacement), operating as it should.
Turning the watch over I note that the gold filled back lid is in excellent condition with no wear or engravings, past or present. Peeking inside I find a beautiful 3/0 size Fifteen Jewel manual wind movement, signed Illinois Watch Co., Springfield, 15 Jewels with serial number #4,983,184, dating the watch to ca 1927 as per production records. The inside of the case lid is signed Illinois Watch Case Co., Elgin – Tivoli. This company was no relation to the Illinois Watch Company and was located in Elgin, Illinois – the same town where Elgin watches were made.
This cleaned, oiled and regulated watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping very good, accurate time. She is fitted with a new 19mm black crocodile (grain) calf leather strap. All in all a nice, ready to wear Art Deco Tank form watch from one of America’s

finest – I think every watch lover needs at least one Illinois watch in his or her collection.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and relative value that are important to the seasoned watch collector.
Omega strongly reaffirmed its position as a collector’s brand in 2007 when Antiquorum held its “Omegamania” theme sale in Geneva, Switzerland. The prices realized vastly exceeded pre-auction estimates and set new records for many older models. Yes folks, good vintage Omega watches are only going UP in value.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men's Omega timepiece, an excellent and all original Quickset Date automatic wind model from ca 1973. This watch is signed FIVE times for Omega…on the original crystal (a tiny symbol in the center), winding crown, case, original untouched dial and mechanism.
Its solid stainless steel case measures 42mm lug tip to lug tip and 35mm in width (37.5mm with original Omega-signed steel winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-5/8 inches long by 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting the original crown. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original seventeen jewel, rotor automatic mechanism and it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver, enamel finish dial is in flawless condition, complete with a fine brush finish. Features include a 60 second outer chapter, raised silver and black enamel hour markers, a Quick set date window at the 3 position, original silver steel hands with black lacquer fill and ‘sweep’ original center seconds hand. Signed OMEGA AUATOMATIC with trademark Omega symbol below the 12. It is further signed -SWISS MADE - at the base of the dial. Please note that this is an early quick set date model where you pull the crown out to the 1st position to change the date and the 2nd position to change the time. You can advance the date either forwards or backwards, quite a feat for 40 years ago.
The 100% original hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition, complete with a tiny OMEGA SYMBOL right in the center, only visible with a magnifying loupe. The original Omega Swiss made case is a solid

stainless steel example in excellent PLUS condition with absolutely no wear. The original Omega-signed steel winding crown is flawless as well, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the screw-down back lid is stainless steel and without any flaws – I would say excellent plus to mint with its original brushed, satin finish as it left the factory with. Peeking inside I find a rose gold finished mechanism with the Omega Symbol stamped into the rotor. There is also a small medallion stamp that is signed Seventeen 17 Jewels, Omega Swiss - #36,749,203 – dating the watch to ca 1973 as per Omega production records. The caliber number is 1010. The inside of the case back is signed ACIER INOXYDABLE - OMEGA WATCH CO., FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE –– 166.0163 CB.
This watch has been fully serviced (disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated) so you can be assured that it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate time. It comes fitted on new and high quality 18mm black ostrich (grain) calf leather band with matching chrome steel buckle. I believe all vintage watch collectors need to have at least one Omega in their collection. I think the understated elegance of this pristine original example is worth a second (or third) look!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Founded in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start its watch production until March 1894, having first chosen the name “Columbian Watch Co.” but this name was already copyrighted by the Waterbury Co. The name Hamilton was derived from Lancaster’s founding father, Mr.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following Thincraft II model from the Hamilton firm, an original, USA made, 18 jewel manual wind timepiece that dates to ca 1957. This is only the second time I’ve seen this particular “Thincraft” model before, and it is shown on page 120 of Rene Rondeau’s Hamilton Wristwatch Collector’s Guide. What I love about this one is its original black dial, complete with unique “scalloped” design outer track. The overhaul effect is very Retro Modern “Sputnik” – no surprise it was made in 1957!
Triple-signed, its 10kt White Gold Filled case measures 41.5mm end to end and 34mm in width (36.5mm with crown). In inches

this works out to be just over 1-5/8 inches long by just shy of 1-3/8 inches wide, not including the crown. It is powered by its original 18 jewel, USA made 735 grade manual wind Hamilton mechanism that’s been fully serviced by my very skilled watchmaker David so it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original black, enamel dial is in excellent condition – untouched since it left the factory over half a century ago. Again, I will guarantee this dial to be original and never restored. It features applied 18kt solid white gold hour markers, silver steel Lance-style hands (some specks of age), a 60 second outer track border in a unique scalloped design (calibrated to 1/5 of a second for precision) and ‘sweep’ original center seconds hand. Signed HAMILTON below the 12.
The clear acrylic crystal is new old stock and in excellent condition. The 10 Karat White Gold Filled two-piece case is in excellent shape as well, complete with flared lugs, very Retro Modern in design. The winding crown, unmarked, is in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the bubble-back style back lid is in excellent condition, a few pinpricks but nicer than my photo shows with no wear or personal engravings. It is stamped HAMILTON at one edge and “10K Gold Filled” on the other side. Inside I find a clean and original manual wind mechanism that is signed Hamilton 735 – Adjusted – 18 Jewels, USA. The inside of the case lid is stamped HAMILTON W. CO., LANCASTER, PA – 10K GOLD FILLED –S&W with case number as well. The “S&W” stands for Schwab & Wuishpard, a noted American watch case manufacturer that supplied Hamilton with many of its cases, this one being patented by Hamilton.
This watch has been cleaned, oiled and regulated so it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes fitted on a new 18mm black deBeer hand crafted ostrich (grain) calf leather strap with matching color buckle. All in all an excellent and original condition Hamilton “Thincraft II” that’s a rarer bird and simply a great looking timepiece.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I’ve always loved Bulova, an American company of great repute. It was founded by Czech immigrant Joseph Bulova and based in New York City, where the famous Bulova Observatory was located, high above a skyscraper on Fifth Avenue. Like Gruen, it also had a factory in (Bienne) Switzerland, established in 1912 and dedicated to the production of watch components and their assembly into jeweled movements. The firm is known for its aggressive advertising

campaigns and for being the first to advertise on radio – with an announcer stating “B – U – L – O – V – A … 8:00p.m., Bulova Watch Time.”
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Art Deco watch from the firm, an original ladies Miss America model that dates to 1929. Bulova made this model with both emeralds and sapphires and had a similar model called the “Miss Liberty” that had six stones.
Triple-signed for Bulova, it measures 30mm lug tip to lug tip and 17mm in width (20mm with emerald tip winding crown). In inches this works out to be 1-3/6” long by 5/8” wide, not including the crown. It is fitted on a matching color Art Deco ladder ink bracelet clasp with fold-away clasp that will fit a wrist up to 6-3/4 inches with no problem. My talented watchmaker David (Bulova-trained, at that) has fully serviced its original 15 jewel, manual wind Bulova Swiss made mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original sterling silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, guaranteed untouched since it left the factory in 1929. It features black enamel painted numerals, a 60 minute inner track borer and original blue steel Spade-style hands. Signed BULOVA below the 12 and embossed SWISS at the dial base. Note the center of the dial and how it is finally engraved, very nice detail.
The solid glass crystal is the original and in excellent shape, one or two specks of age if viewed with a loupe. The two-piece, hinged back case is a White Gold Filled beauty, a tour-de-force of Art Deco embossing and geometric engraving in excellent condition. Like most 1920s and early 1930s Bulova watches it has a rhodium plating over the gold finish. The highlight of the bezel has to be four green emeralds (synthetic as was the norm in the 1920s), all in excellent condition and securely set. The matching cabochon emerald winding crown is in excellent condition, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent condition with absolutely no wear or engravings. Peeking inside via the secure hinged back case (opens and closes perfectly), I see that the mechanism has its own crystal and bezel for added protection. Bulova called this its “Dust-Tite Protector” and it was very useful in keeping dust and debris away from the mechanism. This mechanism is a high quality (Fontainemelon) example, signed Bulova Watch Co., SWISS, [Caliber] 6AF – Fifteen 15 Jewels, Four 4 Adj..

There is also a date code symbol for the year 1929 stamped on one of the plates. The inside of the case lid is signed BULOVA QUALITY - PAT. JUNE 10, 1924 with case reference number below.
This watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets very smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a matching color metal bracelet from the same era/period with decoratively engraved ends where it meets the wire lugs of the watch. This bracelet is in great shape and has a fold-away clasp to make it easy to put on and take off. It will fit a wrist up to 6-3/4 inches in size without any problem. All in all a very well-preserved, original “Miss America” model that is ready to be shown off by its new owner. Thanks for dropping by and having a look!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I treat buyers as I like to be treated: with courtesy and respect. Founded by Ernest Francillon and Auguste Agassiz in the year 1832, the Longines Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in the “Long Meadows” (translated: Longines) near the town of St. Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, their wristwatches are among the best in the world, on par with the “big boys” of the Swiss watch making profession including its chief rival Omega.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Longines timepiece, a men’s l 14kt Solid Yellow Gold, curved lug model that dates to ca 1956. This watch is in immaculate condition, complete with a spotless black enamel dial and Longines-signed crown.
Quadruple-signed, it measures 39.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 33mm in width (33.5mm with recessed original gold crown). This works out to be 1-9/16 inches long by just over 1-1/4 inches in width, not counting the crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, 23Z caliber manual wind Longines mechanism that has been fully serviced by my valued watchmaker David just last week. As such, it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The black enamel finished dial is in flawless condition, professionally restored to its correct, original status. It features a 60 minute gold incised ‘dot’ outer track border, applied yellow gold numerals and hour markers, original gold metal Dauphine-style hands and a recessed, round seconds dial with ‘sweep’ original gold seconds hand. Signed LONGINES below the 12 with applied gold company emblem and SWISS at the base of the dial.
The hardened acrylic crystal is in mint condition with no flaws. The case is a two-piece design that is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and it is in excellent PLUS condition, complete with fancy curled down lugs. The original winding crown features a raised Longines emblem (winged hourglass) and is in excellent shape,

winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the 14k solid gold screw-down back lid is in excellent to mint condition like the rest of the case. It is stamped 14 KARAT GOLD along one edge. Looking inside I find a clean and fully serviced manual wind mechanism, signed Longines Watch Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels [Grade] 23Z, LXW. Its serial number is #10,164,133 - dating it to late 1956, possibly early 1957. The inside case is stamped LONGINES WITTNAUER WATCH CO. INC. - NEW YORK, GENEVA, MONTREAL – STAR W.C.

As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"…keep in mind

he’s about 110 (in human years) and doesn’t have all his marbles!

Not until the First World War would the wrist watch be considered an everyday necessity for the gentleman, although their use by troops is noted during the Boer War, albeit limited. Prior to the Great War, watches were considered “women’s jewelry” and too effeminate for the discerning man. WWI would change this, putting the watch on the wrists of soldiers fighting in the trenches of Europe, this event having repercussions once the soldier returned home.
As one 1919 advertisement promoting wristwatches for gentlemen states, such devices were “manly watches for manly men – any man so out of date as to consider the wristwatch effeminate need only learn the kind of men who use them…the fighting men, the soldiers in the World War, the military and naval men the world over, the big game hunters, the aviators, motorists, yachtsmen.” By the end of the 1920s, wristwatch production would surpass pocket watch output at most U.S. factories and Swiss factories, a trend that became more pronounced over time.
I am very pleased (and a bit reluctant) to offer for sale the following original WWI military timepiece, made by the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland for the United States market ca 1917 -1918. This solid sterling silver, Cushion-form timepiece is truly a time capsule – only the dark brown buffalo grain wire lug strap is new. As I said at the beginning, I offer this one with some reluctance as this is exactly the kind of watch I love to add to my Omega collection and it took me a few weeks before I could finally take pictures of it to sell. I promised myself I would find another – sometime, maybe in a few years!
Its three-piece, sterling silver, wire lug case measures 40mm lug tip to lug

tip and 33mm in width (35mm with original Onion style crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-5/8” long by 1-3/8” wide, including the winding crown. My trusted watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 15 jewel, 2 adjustment high-grade manual wind mechanism, ensuring its winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The white porcelain enamel dial is 100% original and untouched – in excellent condition with NO chips or wear, truly pristine. It features a 60 minute checkered outer track border, original radium-finished Arabic numerals, original blue steel Skeleton hands and a recessed sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and ‘sweep’ original blue steel seconds hand. Signed OMEGA in black enamel with trademark below the 12 and SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.
The gently curved solid glass crystal is in excellent condition with no flaws. The three-piece case is solid sterling silver and in excellent condition, a handsome Cushion-form with strong and secure wire lugs (never repaired or reinforced) that easily accommodate a 16mm wide strap. The original “Pumpkin” (also called Onion) style winding crown is in great shape (once silver or nickel finished), winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent shape, complete with an inscription that reads G.L. STRAUB - 1918. While I always like inscriptions (they add to the history of the piece), they don’t always add to monetary value. An exception is with military watches – when such examples are signed and dated in this fashion it typically meant it was a gift for a soldier going off to Europe to fight in the Great War. If lost, the owner’s name and hometown would help bring the watch back to the soldier or at least his family.
Peeking inside I find a recently serviced, high quality and clean Fifteen jewel, Two adjustment manual wind lever escapement movement signed OMEGA WATCH CO., SWISS – 15 JEWELS, ADJUSTED 2 POSITIONS with serial number #5,038,875 dating it to a ca 1917 production date. The inside of the 100% original outer case lid is signed FAHYS STERLING – 9,942,426. The Fahys Watch Case Co. was one of the premier watch case manufacturers in the USA at the time, with factories in Sag Harbor, New York. They worked closely with Omega in the first two decades of the 20th century, casing many of the firm’s watches destined for the U.S. market. The Omega Watch Agency in New York was just a few blocks from Fahys N.Y. headquarters

and this practice of casing in America greatly reduced tariffs on Swiss watches coming into the USA.
This beautiful antique Omega timepiece has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and set smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted on a new 16mm dark brown buffalo grain calf leather strap with silver steel buckle. This band is especially designed for solid, wire lug watches and is securely affixed to the watch. Truly a fantastic example of a true WWI, all original Omega watch.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers.

As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"…keep in mind

The firm, Revue Thommen, was founded in 1853 by Gedeon Thommen as “Thommen SA, Fabrique D’Horlogerie” and based in Waldenburg, Switzerland. In the early days, only wristwatches and pocket watches were produced and mechanisms were made “in” house. By1920 Revue Thommen had begun producing instruments for the aviation industry and today Revue Thommen’s instruments are among the leading products in the business.
Perhaps the most famous of Revue Thommen’s watches were its “Cricket” line of mechanical alarm watches, products (mechanical alarm clocks) became world famous. Many presidents of the United States were proud wearers of the Revue Thommen Cricket watch, including Lyndon Johnson who was an avid wearer.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following timepiece from the Revue Thommen firm, a men’s late 1930s solid stainless steel, wire lug Tank form model in excellent condition and complete with its original display box, as shown. This is a “Cyrus” Revue model, one of several brand and model names used by Revue Thommen (others better known names included Vertex, popular in the British market). It reminds me quite a bit of Omega and Cyma models that I have had from the same period.
Fully signed, its stainless steel case measures 38mm lug tip to lug tip and 18.5mm in width (20.5mm with original crown). This works out to be 1-1/2 inches in length by ¾ of an inch wide, not including the crown – what would be described as a ¾ size men’s watch or “boy’s size”. While a normal size in the 1930s, it is best suited for a man who prefers a smaller watch or, ideally, for a woman’s wrist – notably larger than a vintage ladies model. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 15 jewel, “Cyrus-Revue” anti-magnetique mechanism, a high quality, higher grade caliber 46. It winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, enamel finished dial has been professionally restored to its correct status and is in excellent condition. This is a unique dial, as noted by the 60 minute outer

track and how it runs through the seconds dial in the center. This is how it was originally designed and I don’t believe I have not seen one like it before. Features include a 60 minute outer chapter, incised “dot” hour markers and black enamel Arabic numerals, original gold Baton-style hands and a separate rectangular seconds dial with 60 second outer track and ‘sweep’ gold seconds hand. Signed REVUE below the 12 and SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.
The solid glass crystal is in flawless, clear condition – removed in a couple photos to avoid glare. The two-piece case is 100% solid stainless steel (stamped Acier Inrouillable) and in excellent PLUS condition. The original, unmarked winding crown is excellent as well, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent PLUS condition like the rest of the case – free of any wear or engravings and carrying the serial number 3428585. Taking a look inside I find a spotless fifteen jewel mechanism that is signed CYRUS – REVUE, 15 JEWELS, SWISS MADE, [CALIBER] 46. The inside of the case back is stamped ACIER INROUILLABLE.
This watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted on a new, full length 14mm black oil leather strap with fold-over ends that is especially designed for wire lug watches such as this. This watch comes with its 100% original “Cyrus-Revue” signed dark brown, gold trimmed display box – in excellent shape and significant value as an overall package with the watch. I have never had a Cyrus model Revue Thommen watch before and I wouldn’t bet on ever finding one again – if you think this is a nice “Machine Age” Art Deco timepiece don’t let this one slip by.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Long before the Bulova Watch Company would become famous the world over, long before there was a “Bulova Observatory” on top of a Fifth Avenue skyscraper, the company existed as a small jewelry store on Maiden Lane, in New York City, owned and operated by Joseph Bulova. Some of us now know that a young shop assistant named John Ballard convinced Joseph to start selling watches directly to other retailers, which led to the establishment of watch factories in Switzerland and the U.S.A. The rest of course is watch history, with Bulova being one of the most recognized names in the field.
If you're looking for a uniquely styled, vintage wristwatch then this may be just the watch for you. It is a men's Bolt Lug “PRINCETON” model made in 1946, part of Bulova’s Excellency series of watches, featuring a top-of-the-line 21 jewel mechanism and made right here in the United States. This triple-signed, 14kt Rose Gold filled timepiece measures 39mm end to end and 30.5mm in width (33.5mm with rose gold winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-1/2 inches in total length by just over 1-1/4 inches wide, including the crown. My Bulova-trained watchmaker David has fully serviced its original Twenty One jewel, 10AK caliber manual wind mechanism and it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The pink (rose) gold, enamel finished

dial is in excellent condition, correct restored to its original appearance and detail. It features a 60 minute outer track border (black dots), a raised gold outer border, raised gold numerals and hour markers, original plum color hands and a “sunburst” seconds dial with ‘sweep’ plum steel seconds hand. Signed BULOVA in raised silver letters below the 12.
The gently domed acrylic crystal is in mint condition. The faceted and knob lug (also referred to as “Bolts”) case is 14 Karat Rose Gold Filled and in excellent PLUS shape, absolutely no wear whatsoever…one of my favorite post war Bulova designs. The matching rose gold finished winding crown is unmarked and in excellent condition as well, operating as it should.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent order with no wear or engravings. It is stamped "14K Gold Filled – Bulova" with case reference number at the opposite edge. Taking a peek inside I find a clean, very high quality Twenty One Jewel manual wind movement that is signed Bulova Watch Co., USA - 21 Jewels, 47 - [Caliber] 10AK. There is also a SQUARE date code stamp indicating it was produced in 1946.
This cleaned, oiled and regulated Princeton model watch winds and sets very well and keeps accurate time. I've fitted the watch with a new and high quality 16mm black deBeer hand crafted lizard grain leather strap so you’re all set. A beautiful and less often seen Bulova model with HIGH wrist appeal – the photos do not do it justice.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers.

As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"…keep in mind

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from the Hamilton firm, the WILSON model first introduced in 1954. The Wilson has a really nice 10kt Yellow Gold filled case, slightly flared, sculpted lugs and a tapered (“pinched”) bezel.
Triple-signed, it measures 38mm lug tip to lug tip and 26mm in width (including the crown). In inches this is 1-1/2” long by just over 1” wide, including the original crown. Powering this watch is its original Hamilton 770 caliber, 22 jewel manual wind mechanism, fully serviced by my

valued watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, Butler enamel finished dial is in flawless condition, professionally restored to its correct original status. It features a 60 minute outer track border, applied 18kt Solid Gold numerals, original gold metal Lance-style hands and a sub-seconds dial with ‘sweep’ gold metal original seconds hand. Signed HAMILTON below the 12.
The solid glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The 10kt Yellow Gold filled case (a natural light yellow gold) is in excellent order as well, complete with flared, sculpted lugs and pinched case sides. Anything you see on this case that would suggest less than excellent is glare or reflection as this was a hard watch to photograph! The matching gold finished winding crown, unmarked, is in excellent condition, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is excellent PLUS in shape, absolutely no wear or engravings and with a fine satin finish. It is stamped HAMILTON at one edge and 10K GOLD FILLED at the opposite edge. Peeking inside I find a top-of-the-line Twenty Two jewel, American made mechanism signed Hamilton, [Grade] 770, 22 Jewels, Adj. U.S.A.. The inner case lid is stamped Hamilton W. Co. – Lancaster, PA. –10k Gold Filled ‘J’ with case number below. The “J” stands for the Jonell Watch Case Company.
This watch has been completely overhauled by my watchmaker David and it winds and sets smoothly and keeps accurate time. I’ve fitted a new 18mm black deBeer Paris hand crafted lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching gold buckle on this watch, a high quality band for a very fine watch. If you’ve been looking for a Retro Modern design, mid-century Hammy with a top notch 22 jewel mechanism I think you have come to the right place!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers.
One of the best-known watch firms in the world today, the Movado Watch Co. of Switzerland took its name from the Esperanto word that translates as “Always in Motion.” Founded by Achille Ditesheim in 1881, he soon set up the first factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and the “Movado” name first appeared in 1906.
One of the first (if not ‘the’ first) watch companies to produce a wristwatch for men, its most famous early design was the Polyplan, followed by military timepieces and triple date watches.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from the Movado factory, a Triple-Date model that dates to the early to mid 1950s (ca 1952 – 1955). One I think of these complicated, multi-calendar watches I always think of

Movado first – their designs are now classics. Very nice too is its case, fabricated for Movado by the leading Swiss case maker Francois Borgel (FB).
Triple-signed, its solid stainless steel case measures 40mm lug tip to lug tip and 33mm in width (35mm with original, unmarked steel crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-5/8 inches long by just over 1-1/4 inches wide, not including the crown. It is powered by its original 474 caliber, 15 jewel, manual wind Movado mechanism that has been fully serviced prior to auction to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, enamel finish dial is in excellent overall condition – the original Movado metal dial that has been professionally restored in the recent past. It features a 31 day outer track next to a 60 minute checkered border, luminous light green Arabic numerals, original steel hands with luminous fill and a sub-seconds dial with engine-turned background and ‘sweep’ original seconds hand. Signed MOVADO below the 12.
There are two calendar windows on the dial. The left is the day of the week. The right is the month. You will also note a separate silver steel hand with RED dot tip. This is the day of the month indicator hand. To quickset the month you press IN the button above the crown. To advance the day of the month hand you press IN the button below the crown. The day of the week (i.e., Wednesday) calendar must first be set manually first by advancing the day 24 hours.
The hardened acrylic armored crystal is in excellent, clear condition, a new addition. The Movado-signed, Francois Borgel designed case is Solid Stainless Steel and in great to excellent shape, a two-piece example with faceted lugs. There are a few small surface scratches but I chose not to polish the case, it looks very nice in person. The original stainless steel winding crown is a design unique to Movado during this period, unsigned and gently domed. It is in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that screw-down stainless back lid is in great shape, stamped Stainless Steel and without any personal engravings or wear…just a few normal scratches from opening and closing.
Taking a look inside I find a manual wind mechanism that is stamped Movado Factories, 15 Fifteen Jewels, Swiss Made with caliber number 475 stamped below the balance wheel. The inside case back is finely engine turned and stamped FB PATENT + STAINLESS STEEL INAL - MOVADO

FACTORIES SWITZERLAND, FABRICATION SUISSE with case numbers below. Please note the “FB” initials for Francois Borgel, the Swiss Patent + symbol and the Movado trademark of a hand holding a pocket watch.
This handsome triple-date Movado has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new 16mm black deBeer Paris hand crafted crocodile (grain) calf leather strap with chrome steel buckle, ready to be worn and enjoyed. This is the first Movado of its type that I’ve had in over 10 years and I wonder why I waited so long. It really is a good looking, classic Swiss watch.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I treat buyers as I like to be treated: with courtesy and respect. If you love the look of an Art Deco inlaid enamel case watch you’re going to want to take a peek at this beauty…in excellent original condition with lots of “wrist appeal” to spare!
In its glory years from the 1920s through the 1940s, the Gruen Watch Company of USA & Switzerland was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even collaborating with Rolex (i.e., the Aegler movement duo-dial doctor’s watch) from its factories in Switzerland. Prior to WWII, Gruen was better known in the USA than Rolex, which at that time was concentrating on the British and Commonwealth countries (hence lots of early Rolexes coming out of Australia and the UK). Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland (their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as Rolex Gruen in Europe, but the Great Depression and more urgent matters prevented this.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage ladies timepiece from the Gruen firm, a Guild series Cartouche model in superb ALL ORIGINAL shape that dates to ca 1927. This watch is 14kt White Gold Filled (Reinforced with “Extra Gold”), as stamped inside, a superior example of a 14k White Gold filled case.
Triple-signed, it measures 29mm lug tip to lug tip and 17mm in width (19.5mm with original cabochon sapphire crown). This works out to be just over 1-1/8 inches long by 5/8 of an inch wide, not counting the crown. It has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David and its original 15 jewel, 4 adjustment Gruen Guild, 153 caliber, manual wind mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original sterling silver dial is in excellent condition, never restored or touched up since it left the factory over 80 years ago. It features black

enamel painted Art Nouveau style numerals, original blue steel Spade-style hands and a 60 minute inner track border. Signed GRUEN below the 12 and embossed SWISS at the base, below the bezel.
The solid glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The 14 Karat White Gold Filled engraved case is in excellent PLUS condition. The highlight has to be its inlaid black enameling on all sides of the dial – in perfect shape. The original winding crown is of a style unique to Gruen (beaded) and features a cabochon sapphire tip. It is in pristine shape and operates smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid features a finely engraved floral border and is in excellent order. Inside I find a clean and higher-grade Fifteen Jewel Gruen Guild Series movement, a caliber 153 as stamped next to the balance wheel. This movement is signed FIFTEEN 15 JEWELS, FOUR 4 ADJ. - GRUEN GUILD, SWITZERLAND . The inside of the case lid is stamped GRUEN – 14K GOLD FILLED - REINFORCED WITH EXTRA GOLD, WADSWORTH, OS-57 with case number below.
This fully serviced Cartouche model winds and sets very smoothly while keeping very good time. She is fitted on a new 10mm black leather strap with matching color buckle that will fit a wrist 5-1/4 inches to 6-3/4 inches in size. If you need a longer length I should be able to put a black cord bracelet on, just tell me the length you need. All in all a beautiful, original and ready to wear “Cartouche” model from the Roaring 20s – I think the high bidder is going to cherish this watch for decades to come.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland (their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as Rolex Gruen in Europe, but the Great Depression (and more urgent matters) prevented this.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following 370 caliber Gruen Curvex model, a 14kt Solid Yellow Gold Curvametric 729 from ca 1952 in excellent condition. This is the first time I have ever had this curved, fancy lugmodel and it is a knockout in person – my photos do not

do it justice.
The 370 caliber Curvex models were the last produced by Gruen, preceded by the 440, 330 and 311 respectively (the mechanisms were called “Curvametric”).
This triple-signed timepiece measures 39mm end to end and 24mm in width (including the crown and protruding lugs). In inches this works out to be over 1-1/2” long by 1” in width. My trusted watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 17 jewel Curvex Precision mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The black, enamel finished dial is in mint condition – a fine “waffle” weave design that has been professionally restored and very nicely done. It features a 60 minute outer chapter, applied solid gold faceted hour markers and Arabic numerals, original gold metal Dauphine-style hands and a sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer track and sweep gold metal seconds hand. Signed GRUEN CURVEX below the 12 and PRECISION above the seconds dial.
The solid glass crystal is curved on all four sides and in excellent condition with no flaws. I carefully removed it in a few photos but it is now securely set in place. The nicely CURVED 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold case is double-signed Gruen and in excellent to mint condition – absolutely pristine. Note the fancy curving ribbon style lugs – they really set this model apart. The matching gold finished winding crown (unmarked) is in excellent shape as well, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in also in excellent to mint condition and without flaw – stamped GRUEN 14K GOLD. Inside I find a fully overhauled mechanism that is signed Gruen Watch Co. Precision – Curvex Pat. – Switzerland, Seventeen 17 Jewels – GXC, [Caliber] 370. The inside of the case is signed Cased and Timed in USA by the Gruen Watch Co – “J” -14K. Gold - 370/760. Note that the 370 caliber is stamped on the inner lid along with the dial model number of 760. The “J” stands for the Jonell Watch Case Company.
This handsome Curvex watch has been cleaned, oiled & regulated so it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted with a new 16mm black deBeer Paris hand crafted lizard grain strap with matching color buckle, ready to be worn and enjoyed. My longtime favorite U.S. watch firm is the Elgin National Watch Company, a prolific American firm established in 1864 on 35 acres of land donated by the City of Elgin, Illinois (the factory had a National Street address). It was a strategic location, right next to the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad, one of the

busiest railways into Chicago, and the Elgin factory would become the focal point of the town.
Elgin would offer its first watch for sale in 1867, marking the beginning of fierce competition with its chief competitor, Waltham, which (ironically) was instrumental in forming Elgin, as two of the original organizers were P.S. Bartlett and D.G. Currier of Waltham fame. Bartlett and Currier would later join the Illinois Watch Co. of Springfield.
I am very pleased to offer for sale the following men’s timepiece from the Elgin firm, an excellent original condition, faceted lug, pinched case MILLBROOK I model that dates to ca 1954. This is just the second time I’ve ever had this model before and it is a top-of-the-line Lord Elgin timepiece, the best the company offered and featuring a high-grade 21 Jewel USA made mechanism.
Triple-signed for Elgin, its 14kt Yellow Gold filled case measures 38mm lug tip to lug tip and 23mm in width at its narrowest (including the crown) given its pinched sides. This works out to be 1-1/2 inches long by just under 1 inch in width. My trusted watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 670 caliber, manual wind mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver butler enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – untouched since it left the factory and with just a few tiny specks of age. It features raised gold “fancy” numerals, original gold metal Dauphine-style hands and a separate seconds dial with ‘sweep’ gold Dauphine-style seconds hand. Signed LORD ELGIN below the 12 and with the “dp” symbol for “Durapower” below this (Elgin’s unbreakable mainspring).
The curved, solid glass crystal is in excellent condition with no flaws. The case is 14 Karat Yellow Gold Filled and in excellent PLUS shape with absolutely no wear. I really like how the bezel is pinched along the sides while the fancy lugs come to a faceted peak. The original winding crown (correctly unmarked) is gold-finished and in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is also 14 Karat Gold Filled and in excellent PLUS condition, stamped as such along the edge. Inside I discover a fully serviced manual wind movement signed Elgin [Grade] 670 USA – 21 Jewels, Adj’d. The serial number I919608 dates this watch to 1954. The inside case back is stamped Cased and Timed by Elgin National Watch Co., Star Watch Case Co. - 14k Gold Filled – [Model] 4638 with case number below.
This watch has

been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets very smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted on a new and high quality 18mm lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching gold finished buckle. If you like this “Millbrook” Lord Elgin I suggest you place a few bids – finding this rare model in excellent condition is no easy feat!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. In my search for nice vintage watches there is always one that is a bit different from the others and has an interesting feature or detail that sets it apart from the others. This is one such timepiece, a men’s ca 1960 DATALARM (Date-Alarm) model produced by the Alstater Watch Company, a firm based in New York City that had its watches made to order completely in Switzerland. Best known for chronograph, military dial and alarm watches, they retailed their watches under the “Alsta” brand name.
This triple-signed timepiece is truly in excellent, original condition and I really hope that my photos do justice to the untouched textured dial – what a beauty. Its solid stainless steel case measures 42.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 34mm in width (37mm with original crowns). In inches this works out to be 1-11/16” long by just shy of 1-3/8” wide, not including the winding (bottom) and alarm (top) crowns. It has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David prior to auction and its original 17 Jewel, manual wind AS 1568 caliber mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver, brushed enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, untouched since it left the factory. It features raised silver hour markers and Retro Modern design numerals, a 60 second inner track border, a semi-quickset date window at the 3 position, original silver metal Dauphine-style hands with tritium fill and a ‘sweep’ silver steel seconds hand. Signed ALSTA DATALARM below the 12 and 17 INCABLOC above the 6. It is further signed SWISS MADE at the base of the dial. The “incabloc” name refers to the watch’s shockproof balance assembly.
You wind the watch up and set the time by using the lower crown. The upper crown winds the alarm and you “set” it by pulling the crown out. The alarm time can only be set by moving the alarm hand (squiggly with RED arrow tip) in reverse, setting forward is inhibited by a free wheel. To enable the alarm you pull the top crown “out”. To disable the alarm you push the crown “In”. The alarm

functions very nicely with a good sounding BUZZZZ when it goes off!
The original acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The case is three-piece, all stainless steel example that is in excellent PLUS condition, very clean and Alstater-signed. The matching and original steel winding crowns, correctly unmarked, are in excellent condition.
Turning the watch over, I note that the back lid is stainless steel, with a separate screw-down ring. It is stamped ALARM - Swiss

Made – All Stainless Steel - Incabloc – Dust and Water Resistance Tested. Inside is a clean and high quality rose gold finished manual mechanism stamped Alstater Watch Co. – 17 Seventeen Jewels, Swiss . The caliber number is found below the balance wheel and it is A.S. 1568 (A. Schild, Grenchen) which comes as no surprise as they essentially perfected the alarm mechanism – producing this caliber from 1954 to around 1970. Unlike the more common AS 1475 caliber, this 1568 caliber watch has the DATE function as well – something you don’t often see with vintage alarm timepieces. The inside case lid is stamped ALSTATER WATCH CO., SWISS.
This watch has been professionally serviced in the past week to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes complete with a new 17mm black deBeer lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching steel buckle. All in all an excellent and very ORIGINAL mid-century double duty “Alarm – Date” watch that is ready to be worn and enjoyed – I just may regret selling this one!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Founded by Swiss immigrant Albert Wittnauer in New York City, the Wittnauer Watch Company. became an official business in 1880, when the brand was “officially” introduced. Albert, along with his brother Louis (and later Emile) imported complete watches or just mechanisms from its Geneva, Switzerland factory. In 1889 the company ran its very first advertisement. Appearing in the twentieth anniversary issue of the Jewelers’ Weekly, the ad notes that the company sold both “plain and complicated” watches, suggesting that it was a source for chronographs and repeating watches.
By the 20th century they were firmly established as providing watches, chronometers and military timing devices to the military, famed early explorers and the general public, and are on record for producing the first waterproof watch called the “All Proof” in 1918. Long associated with the Longines Watch Co. via a US partnership the firm is now owned by Bulova, once a great competitor.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Wittnauer timepiece, an all original Park Avenue Ensemble “Petite” wristwatch in 14kt Solid White Gold that dates to ca 1960 and is in excellent condition. I realize that the “Mad Men” phrase gets thrown around a lot when it comes to Mid-Century clothing and watches but this one is really is it – named after the fashionable and wealthy Manhattan Avenue (Park) that the Madison Avenue advertising men (and ladies) wanted to make a connection to. This watch is complete with its original three interchangeable straps and original pink color display box, in excellent shape. The price, when new, was $99.50 and this included federal tax (FTI). In today’s dollars this is equal

to $760, using the on-line inflation calculator.
Triple-signed, it petite octagonal shaped 14k Solid White Gold case measures just 15mm in width (16.3mm with original winding crown). This works out to be just 9/16 of an inch wide and long, not including the crown. With original bands Longines-Wittnauer signed bands (as shown), it will fit a wrist 5-1/4 inches long to 6-1/4 inches long. I will also include a black nylon one-piece strap that works nicely on this watch (not shown). It will maximize the overall length to 7-1/4 inches and you can save the shorter ones in their excellent original shape.
It is powered by its original 17 jewel, manual wind Wittnauer Swiss mechanism, fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David prior to auction to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, featuring applied silver metal hour markers and original silver steel hands. Signed WITTNAUER below the 12 marker and SWISS at the base.
The original solid glass octagonal-shaped crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The two-piece case is Octagon form and 14 Karat Solid White Gold, in excellent order. The matching color winding crown is in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over, I see that the back of the case is in excellent PLUS condition with absolutely no wear or engravings. Taking a look inside I find a clean, manual wind mechanism that is signed Wittnauer Watch Co. Inc., Swiss [Caliber] 6FC - Seventeen 17 Jewels, AXA. The inside of the case is stamped WITTNAUER – NEW YORK, GENEVA, MONTREAL – 14K GOLD [MODEL] 356.
This watch has been fully serviced (disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated) to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes complete with its black suede, white patent leather and silver colored original watch straps, all signed “A Longines Wittnauer Product” on the underside. This watch will ship in its original pink color display case, complete with gold Florentine bordering and signed “WITTNAUER – A LONGINES WITTNAUER PRODUCT.” Inside it is pink velvet lined and is noted as a “Park Avenue Ensemble” on its satin lining. This is one watch that simply by looking at it and its original box sends you back in time – a Mid-Century American time capsule perhaps!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers.
