South Miami K-9 Naming ContestPolice K-9 Named “Hero”

The South Miami Police Department's newest recruit is a K-9, and the department reached out to students for some help naming him. Sixty essays with hundreds of words were submitted by 4th and 5th graders from South Miami Middle School.

Sandy Sosa-Guerrero was one of two CEO’s approached by the chief of police for helping in the fund of the dog’s training.

"They came up with interesting names, but in the end we felt that hero is what these policemen do everyday," said Sandy Sosa-Guerrero, CEO of Larkin Hospital. "They are our heroes. They protect us. They protect our community.”
