CASE STUDY Challenge Situated in the heart of North West England, the Preston-based Holiday Inn Express is a flagship hotel for business guests, leisure guests and family holidays. The new hotel required a very modern and contemporary interior design. Newhey Carpets Limited and Hitchin-based Pentangle Design Group collaborated to supply over 3,000 square metres of completely bespoke carpet using the unique Colortec+ and Graphics Tufted products for the spacious 103-bedroom hotel. Keeping within the framework of the recognised Holiday Inn Express brand, Colortec+ was used throughout the communal areas in the hotel. Showcasing the advanced design capabilities of Colortec+, an optical illusion was created with impressive ‘Rug’ and ‘Runner’ designs that were incorporated into the carpets. Graphics Tufted was used in the bedrooms, where a contemporary and vibrant blue stripe design is showcased. Design solution
Colortec+ was specified throughout the communal areas, with yarn being spun and dyed using Newhey’s established local supply chain to ensure consistency in both quality and performance. In addition to the smooth supply chain and exclusive to Colortec+, different textures and depth were added to the public area designs by using a combination of Twist & Velvet pile yarns creating a stunning and luxurious textured finish to the product.
Utilising a 1,400 gram per square metre pile weight, Colortec+ meets the stringent demands of a modern hotel ensuring ultimate performance in corridors, lift lobbies, public areas and meeting rooms. For the guestrooms, over 2,300 square metres of Graphics Tufted carpet was manufactured at a custom width which critically resulted in reduced waste and the most cost efficient solution for the client. Also in the rooms and utilising Newhey’s unique Advanced Secondary Backing System, carpet was supplied with an integral felt secondary backing providing key benefits such as cost efficiency and speed of installation.
