Finding Mrs. Claus (12/2, Lifetime)Las Vegas isn’t the first location that comes to mind when you think of Christmas, but it’s the setting for this new holiday tale. Oscar winner Mira Sorvino (“Mighty Aphrodite”) has the title role of Santa’s spouse, who’s feeling neglected by her husband (Will Sasso, “The Three Stooges”) as the

Ingredients1 (4 bone in) choice standing rib roast,approximately 10 poundscanola oil, to coat2 teaspoons kosher saltfreshly ground black pepper, plenty to coat theroast1 cup red wine1 cup water4 leaves fresh sage
Directions1. To dry-age the roast: Place a refrigeratorthermometer at the back of the bottom shelf ofyour refrigerator. Reduce the temperature to justbelow 38° F. Cover the bottom of a roasting panwith several layers of paper towels. Place theroast, bone side down, on the towels, and store—uncovered—at the back of the bottom shelf of yourrefrigerator. Allow the meat to age for 3 to 5 days,checking the refrigerator temperature often.*
2. When ready to cook, remove the roast from therefrigerator and bring to room temperature for 1hour.
3. Place a 16-inch round azalea terra cottaplanter into a cold oven. Invert the planter tobecome a lid over the bottom of the planter. Theoven should be cold to start, to avoid any crackingin the terra cotta pieces. Turn the oven to 200˚ F.
4. Rub the roast with canola oil. Remember torub the bones with oil, as well. Once the roast iscompletely coated with oil, sprinkle with the koshersalt and enough freshly ground pepper to coat thesurface. Place the roast over a glass bake-waredish slightly smaller than the length of the roast.This will catch the drippings needed for the sauce.Finally, place a probe thermometer into the centerof the roast and set for 118˚F. Put the roast andthe glass dish onto the planter dish, cover with
the terra cotta pot, and return to the oven. Roastfor approximately 4-7 hours, until it reaches aninternal temperature of 120˚ F.
5. Remove the planter with the roast and turnoven up to 500 degrees F. Allow the roast to restuntil an internal temperature of 130˚ F is reached.Return the roast to the hot oven for 10-15 minutesor until you’ve achieved your desired crust.Remove and transfer roast to a cutting board. Restat least 15 minutes before carving.
6. Drain off the fat from the glass pan and scrapethe drippings to a 2-quart saucepan. Place thepan over low heat, add the wine and water andreduce by half. Stirring with a wooden spatula.Roll the sage leaves in between your fingers torelease the flavors and aroma. Add to the sauceand cook for 1 minute. Strain and serve with theroast.
7. Carve the roast with an electric knife. Start byseparating the bones from the meat by placing theroast with the bone ends facing with the meat sideup. Cut, following the curve of the bone, towardsthe meat. Save the ribs for yourself and you’vebasically got a big, boneless roast. Remove anylarge layers of fat. Then start slicing from the endand make sure you don’t go less than a half-inch.
*Draining Rig:Perforate the body of a large, hard plastic storagecontainer, place the meat on the lid of saidcontainer and use the body as the lid.
Place the standing rib roast upright onto a halfsheet pan fitted with a cooling rack. The rack isessential for drainage. The lowest deepest part ofyour fridge is still ideal for stashing this rig.

A ‘Christmas Story’ that never gets old
returns againEven with all his recent activity, the now-41-year-old
Billingsley maintains a warm spot in his heart for “A ChristmasStory,” as do so many others. “There’s a very loyal fan basefor that movie,” he acknowledges. “Those who like it know itand quote it, and it’s a part of the family tradition of Christmasfor them. And we have not infringed on the reputation, or theirenjoyment, of that film.”
Billingsley tends to tune in himself at some point during the TBSmarathon.
“First of all, I apologize for being in people’s houses for 24hours,” he says. “Now having ‘Sullivan & Son’ on the network,I feel like I’ve already been in the TBS family for as long as themarathon of ‘A Christmas Story’ has been going, so it’s nice to bedoing that job with them.
The holiday season has certain entertainment staples it justwouldn’t be the holidays without. Among them: Rudolph, Frosty, theGrinch … and Ralphie.
The wide-eyed child who literally dreams of finding a Red RyderBB gun under the tree – despite the famous warning, “You’ll shootyour eye out” – spends a lot of time in homes at the yuletide, thanksespecially to the now-traditional 24-hour marathon TBS gives “AChristmas Story” from Christmas Eve through Christmas Day.
The Jean Shepherd-inspired 1983 comedy made a young starof Peter Billingsley, who’s since become quite active behind thecameras. He often teams with close friend Vince Vaughn, havingbeen the director of the movie “Couples Retreat” and an executiveproducer of such films as “Four Christmases” and the TBS sitcom“Sullivan & Son,” which returns next year for Season 2.

Olive: Well, I loved playing the Other Cupid.The wings and diaper were cute, but that dogsand chocolate issue again.

Olive: Yes and no. I try to not repeat myself. Ijust bought green tights and pointy shoes withbells. I was thinking Olive, the Other Elf.
It may seem hard to believe, but it’s been 13years since “Olive, the Other Reindeer” premieredon Fox. Drew Barrymore, who voiced the sweetJack Russell terrier, must have truly loved hercharacter since she named her daughter Olive.
Now most people assume this was just anotherChristmas cartoon, with familiar voices – EdAsner as Santa, Dan Castellaneta as the villainouspostman and Peter MacNicol as Fido, Olive’s petflea – but there’s more to the story.

Movies to Watch on New Year’s Eve
“The Apartment” (1960):Encompassing a holiday season, director Billy Wilder’s great, Oscar-winning comedy-drama culminates on New Year’s Eve … after upwardly mobile office drone C.C. Baxter (Jack Lemmon) has lent his shoulder to his crush, lovelorn elevator operator Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine), to cry on. Without spilling too many beans, it can be said anyone who stays with the film will find its finale irresistible.
“When Harry Met Sally …”(1989): One of the most popular NewYear’s Eve scenes in movie history capsdirector Rob Reiner and writer Nora Ephron’scozy, entertaining comedy that poses whetherfriends – in this case, Billy Crystal and MegRyan’s title characters – can become loversand still stay friends. And Reiner’s motherdelivers the fall-out-of-your-chair line, “I’llhave what she’s having.”
“Entrapment” (1999): If you want to dial back to the start of the current millennium, this classy heist tale offers recent nostalgia along with a terrific acting duo in Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
