The Pullman Chamber of Commerce would like to invite you to Shop Pull-man First this holiday

season. We have plenty of fun holiday activities in store over the next month and we would love for you to join!

To kick off Shop Pullman First, over 30 local businesses will off er FREE chocolate for you and yours as part of the 3rd Annual Choco-late Decadence on November 14 from 4 – 7 pm. You will fi nd a map of the chocolate locations in this Holiday Shopping Guide.

At several of the Chocolate Decadence locations, Visual

Merchandising and Promo-tion students in the WSU Ap-parel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles Department have been working hard to make a contribu-tion to shopping local in Pullman with promotions and displays. Th is project is coor-dinated with the Pullman Chamber of Commerce, WSU Offi ce of Civic Engagement, and the following 10 merchants: Barnes & Noble “Bookie”, Crimson and Gray, Daily Grind Coff ee House,

Flirt, GLASSPhemy, Lily Bee’s Consignment Shop, Neill’s Flow-ers and Gift s, Ric-O-Shay, Sam Dial Jewelers and Wild Ivy. Make sure you visit each site and rate your favorite displays by Decem-ber 1st so a winner can be chosen.

While you are out shop-ping in Pullman, look

out for Santa’s Elves! If you “Get Caught Shopping” you could win instant-ly! You won’t want

to miss out on win-ning some great gift

certifi cates. You will also want to enter to win

the Holiday Prize Pack, this year valued at over $700! Th e win-ner will be drawn at the Holiday Fest and Tree Lighting Ceremony

which be held in Pine Street Plaza on December 7th from 4 – 6 pm. Th e kick-off will begin at the YMCA with the Kid’s Jingle Bell Fun Run. Th e event will also feature FREE cocoa, cookies, live entertainment and a visit from Santa!

10 REASONS TO SHOP PULLMAN FIRST

1 Signi cantly more money stays in Pullman when purchases are made at lo-cally owned, rather than

nationally owned, businesses. More money stays in the commu-nity because locally owned busi-nesses purchase from other local businesses, service providers, and farms.

2 Most new jobs are pro-vided by locally owned businesses. Small local businesses are the larg-

est employer nationally, and in Pullman they provide new jobs to residents.

3 Our one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants are an in-tegral part of our distinc-tive character. e unique

character of Pullman is what brought us here and will keep us here.

4 Local business owners invest in their commu-nity. Local businesses are owned by people who live

locally and are more invested in the community’s future.

5 Customer service is more personal. Pullman busi-nesses are closer to the customer and tend to form

personal and lasting bonds with their customer base.

6 Competition and diversity lead to more choices. A multitude of small busi-nesses, each selecting

products based on the needs of their local customers and not on a national sales plan, guarantees a much broader range of product choices.

7 Local business has a lighter environmental im-pact. Shopping in Pullman is more energy e cient,

requiring shorter travel distances. Local businesses also make more local purchases, thus reducing the overall carbon footprint of goods sold.

8 Public bene ts far out-weigh public costs. Local businesses require com-paratively little infrastruc-

ture investment and make more e cient use of public services than most “big box” stores or national chains.

9 Local businesses encour-age investment in the community. A growing body of economic re-

search shows that entrepreneurs and skilled workers are more likely to settle in communities that preserve their one-of-a-kind businesses and distinctive char-acter.

10 Non-pro ts receive greater support. Local business own-ers donate more

to local charities than non-local owners.

Start your holiday shopping right here in Pullman – you will nd what you were looking for and more!

If each person in Pullman redirected $50 per month they currently spend outside of Pullman, it would result in enough sales tax revenue each year to operate Reaney Pool for a summer, hire a new police o cer or re ghter or operate Neill Public Library for nearly a month.
