Journey to the Centre of the Earth
Scientific Enquiry
The Earth being hollow with 2 hollow shells and a solid sphere nested inside. This was done to explain anomalous magnetic compass readings. He said, the atmosphere inside was luminous (and possibly inhabited) and escaping gas the cause of Aurora Borealis.
Edmund Halley (1692)
TO ALL THE WORLD!
”I declare the earth is hollow, and habitablewithin; containing a number of solid concentric spheres, one
within the other, and that it is open at the poles 12 or 16 degrees; I pledge my life in support of this truth, and am ready to explore the hollow, if the world will support and aid me in the undertaking.”
JOHN CLEVES SYMMES (1818)
Leonhard Euler
Got rid of multiple shells and had an interior sun - to provide light to advanced inner-earth civilization.
Sir John Leslie
Would place 2 suns in hollow earth- named Pluto & Proserpine.
William Reed (1906) James McBride (1829)
”the North pole is the opening into the centre of the earth”
Surely we need evidence?
Recent photos proving their theory !
The polar ice cap plugs the hole
In Germany (1940) the Nazis believed that there was a hole into our Earth
Surely no one still believes this?
The answer is …
YES!
Many still believe the Earth is hollow and other civilisations inhabit our inner Earth.
Ideas of Hollow Earths was dormant until the New Agers/UFOers grabbed onto it along with ideas of lost worlds in giant caverns.
UFO nuts
Dr Raymond Bernard (1969)
Ideas of Hollow Earths was dormant until the New Agers/UFOers grabbed onto it along with ideas of lost worlds
in giant caverns.
How can we find out what is inside the
Earth?
Is going there the only way?
So why don’t scientists think the Earth is hollow?
• They examine evidence
• They suggest a theory that can be supported by the evidence
• If new evidence is found they may modify the theory
• Remember, many accepted theories may never be proved; we accept them as the best model we have to explain our world
