Social Media For Educators

Most Useful ToolsTwitter and Pinterest
* Easy to use for teacher and students* Access from computer, phone, or tablet* Connect with people all over the world
Twitter: search for specific topics with #hashtagsPinterest: find info faster with images
SuccessesTwitter: I always felt that this should be a tool just for my students (class account). I’ve now realized it can also be a great way to build my PLN. Pinterest: I’ve used this personally for years, but never applied it to education. Now I am following education boards to discover new teaching ideas.
Animoto: A great web 2.0 tool that will help update my teacher website during the year. I can also tweet the videos to share with parents.
ChallengesEdmodo: A safe and easy “Facebook” type site to connect, collaborate and share with your class. I struggle with this because I am a “specialist” teacher that doesn’t have one class. I also do not have grades for my students. Ning: Since I did not sign up
for this when it was free a few years ago, I didn’t think it was worth it for me to pay for it when I have other free options.
Wix: I tried to create a blog, but with so many design options it was overwhelming. I may look into this in the future, but I know it will be time consuming. I also do not like that the free website address would be longer than other blogging sites. I think this would be hard for my students to remember.
