Hello and Welcome! Hello and welcome to this addition of the Hollyfields Herald. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff, residents and relatives for their support in the last few months of 2017 since my arrival in July. There are lots of exciting things happening at Hollyfields in 2018 and I believe that this will be the year to drive Hollyfields forward as a home that really cares for those individuals living here. We will be working closely with the Dementia Specialist team in January towards the 10-60-06 accreditation focusing on dementia specific person centered care. We will also be starting our new Dementia Café in 2018 and details of which can be found below. I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that you can leave a review of how you think we are performing by filling in a carehome.co.uk card from reception or by visiting www.carehome.co.uk and following the simple instructions. These reviews only take a few minutes to complete and we can post them on for you if you wish. Thank you again for your continued support and I look forward to a very exciting new year.

What’s coming up this winter?
Visit to Webb’s Residents and relatives at Hollyfields joined us for a
festive treat at Webb’s Garden Centre. They spent time
looking for gifts for their loved ones and window shopping
for some lovely Christmas decorations.
We are hoping to revisit the garden Centre again during
the festive period and sample some of the wonderful food
their café has to offer as well as purchase some lovely
winter plants for the gardens

Following an inspection by the CQC on 15th August 2017, Forest Hill Care Home in Worksop was rated as ‘Outstanding’, which is detailed in a report that was published on 22nd November 2017. The home received an ‘Outstanding’ in two of the five categories – Caring and Response – and a ‘Good’ in Safe, Effective and Well-led. Michael Butler, Activities Coordinator at Hollyfields Care Home in Kidderminster, was at the forefront of a wonderful scheme to unite two generations. His ‘Pen Pal Scheme’ aimed to encourage pupils from a local primary school and residents at Hollyfields to communicate by writing letters to each other and becoming pen pals. The primary school pupils liked receiving letters just as much as the residents. The significant age gap between the generations didn’t seem to be a problem – and the correspondents seem to have successfully reignited the lost art of letter writing. The story was such a huge hit, in fact, that it was even picked up by the BBC and appeared on BBC Breakfast, inspiring lots of other care homes and schools to follow suit.
Uniting the Generations
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all at Barchester Healthcare!
