Brothers, Thank You! I cannot express enough heartfelt appreciation to all the people who made the Guadalupe Celebration and Supreme Convention a success. I have attended a number of Su-preme Conventions and this one was the best. We provided our guest the full California experience which included a couple of minor earthquakes. Thanks again. I would like to congratulate the 29 Councils that earned the

These awards recognized the commitment you have made to providing opportunities for Catholic men to grow in faith and become better men, husbands, fathers and members of society. Congratulations also to those councils that won the Founders Award, the Fa-ther McGivney Award and the Columbian Award. All council winners should be proud of their accomplishments. While we do not do things for awards and recogni-tion, it is nice to know that the Supreme Council sees and understand the tremen-dous effort it takes to fulfill the dream of Fr. McGivney. Brothers,

The council’s WFS Rogala and I met with the new St Robert School Principal, Linda Norman, to provide her with our order’s mis-sion at the parish and the school. We both feel it is important to keep open lines of communication strong so we can assist their needs in the future. I am excited to learn that some of our brothers are active with the school and their fundraising activities. I want to thank all the brothers in ap-proving our council’s donation of $3,000 to the school. The dona-tion will certainly help their efforts in maintaining a strong presence in the community.

The parish’s pastoral council is back in session and some of you may not be aware that many of your brother knights sit on this board. Brother Lou Feletto is the chairperson and I am the secre-tary. Brothers Martin Rodriguez and Esteban Almanza are also sitting members. I will report to you with any pertinent infor-mation that needs to be passed on as meetings are held.

I want to thank all the brothers that assisted with the Pancake Breakfast in support of the fall fes-tival. I want to personally thank Brothers Steve Wood, Joe Mon-toya, Robert Uribe and Luis Bara-jas for staying and helping out till the end. Another thank you goes to Brothers Chris and Emilio Navarette, for their cooking skills

during the past two events. A to-tal of $430 was raised for the fall festival event.

I must remind you again that St Robert School’s fall festival is quickly approaching and your help is again requested. I am mention-ing this because since the Septem-ber newsletter went out, I have not received any confirmed assis-tance. The council needs help in selling 50/50 board squares and I ask that you secure a 4 hour slot on Saturday or Sunday.

Currently we have 9 brothers committed in helping out. Most of their duties are not selling 50/50 board squares so additional help is needed. I need at least 4 brothers to help (2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday). The school is experiencing difficult times and we must be able to assist them in producing additional revenue. The past two years our contribu-tion has been down.

The council is purchasing 8 cases of candy for this year’s ID Candy Drive in October. We plan to ask the 8th grade class to assist us this year. I will ask Father if we can ask for donations after selected

masses during the month of Octo-ber. Most of the donations will hopefully be collected in front of Raley’s on Freeport Blvd. I would like to seek donations from local businesses. If you would like to help please let me know or ask your employer for a cash dona-tion. All proceeds will remain within our local community.

Please mark your calendars for up coming events and they are listed below.

Save these dates for upcoming events for the months of October:

October 6th-7th-St. Robert Fall Festival

Wednesday, October 16th-2nd Degree at Divine Mercy Coun-cil 14158 (Natomas)

Sunday, October 28th Blood Drive & Pancake Breakfast

ID Tootsie Roll Event-Date to be determined.

Please pray for our ill brothers and keep them in your prayers.

I ALREADY HAVE

INSURANCE AT WORK

Many jobs offer some form of group life insurance. Often, this insurance is an employee benefit provided at no charge, or for a small co-pay. Knowing that this coverage exists may con-vince someone that he doesn't need to discuss per-sonally-owned life insurance with a professional agent. That would be a mistake. Most forms of group life insurance are limited in amount. That amount may be tied to salary or some other benchmark, but often there is a cap. That cap may

be dangerously low for your family's needs should you die. In fact, in the absence of a detailed needs analysis (which I'll be happy to pro-vide free of charge), any employer-provided coverage may be completely unrelat-ed to needs at death. In ad-dition, the amount of group insurance offered is almost always reduced -- and some-times dramatically -- when you retire.

Especially today, there is the very real possibility that you could change employers or lose your job. Your benefits could also be reduced. In

either case you could -- one day find yourself without coverage. If your health has changed in the meantime, you might also find yourself unable to secure individual protection.

While group life helps, it does not replace the need for individually-owned life insurance. I'll be happy to meet with you and your fam-ily and provide a free needs analysis so may know exactly where you stand.

Let's get together now.

Fraternally yours, Justin Tanjuaquio

Pope Benedict XVI Joined by Cardinal Dolan and

President of Canadian Bishops in Commending Knights of Columbus

In remarks to the 130th in-ternational convention of the Knights of Columbus, U.S. and Canadian Bishops’ Con-

ferences joined Pope Benedict XVI in ex-pressing concern over restrictions on reli-gious liberty and praising the Knights of Columbus for their work in its defense. Both Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York – president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops – and Archbishop Rich-ard Smith of Edmonton – president of the Canadian Bishops Conference – expressed their gratitude for the Knights’ tireless de-fense of religious liberty and asked them to continue their leadership in that work espe-cially at this time.

A letter of greeting to the Knights’ conven-tion signed by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, conveyed Pope Benedict XVI’s gratitude to the Knights for their help “during these difficult times,” noting that “the Knights of Columbus have

worked tirelessly to help the Catholic com-munity recognize and respond to the un-precedented gravity of these new threats to the Church’s liberty and public moral witness.”

The letter stated: “By defending the right of all religious believers, as individual citizens and in their institutions, to work responsi-bly in shaping a democratic society inspired by their deepest beliefs, values and aspira-tion your Order has proudly lived up to the high religious and patriotic principles which inspired its founding.”

In remarks broadcast worldwide on Catho-lic television networks, Cardinal Timothy Dolan told the 2000 Knights and family members gathered for the convention: “We need you now more than ever.”

Dolan thanked the Knights for “the gener-ous and unfailing loyalty of the Knights of Columbus to the pastoral goals of the Unit-ed States Conference of Catholic Bishops…especially – especially – the defense of reli-gious freedom.”

Archbishop Richard Smith of Edmonton, president of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bish-ops, echoed

the statements of Pope Benedict and Cardi-nal Dolan.

The Archbishop said: “Our call at this mo-ment is to affirm the right of religion to be active in the public square … to defend the freedom of people of faith and of religious institutions to act in accordance with their beliefs and nature; to maintain healthy church state relations; to understand con-science correctly and to form it according to objective truth; and to protect the right to conscientious objection. Believers are summoned now to stand up for their faith, even if they must suffer for doing so.”

“The Knights of Columbus do not shy away from this,” he concluded. “And we bishops are very grateful for your witness.”

While grocery shopping

There are many ways to support Saint Robert School within our community. One of the ways to support this Catholic education environment is as easy as going about our normal everyday rou-tines while raising funds for the school.

Scrip is a way for us to participate in fundraising efforts by having a percentage of our grocery ex-penditures go towards the school. Scrip is available for us to utilize while we are grocery shopping at the following participating retail-ers:

Bel Air Nob Hill Foods Raley’s Nugget Market

So here is how ridiculously easy this is to accomplish. While at the school you can visit the main office requesting your Scrip card

for these establishments at the main reception desk. After receiv-ing your card(s) you simply acti-vate it online and you’re ready to go.

If you are technically challenged please have a family member with internet access assist you in this process.

After that you merely go about your daily activities and while checking out at the store have them scan your card and Wa-lah!! Saint Robert School gets a per-centage of your purchase price.

Gift card Scrip options

Yet another way to help in raising the needed funds is to consider Saint Robert School as your outlet for gift cards that we all utilize for birthdays, Christmas stocking stuffers, graduations, etc.

Attached to the email that you

received with this newsletter you will find two documents. One doc-ument is a listing of retailer gift cards that the school keeps in stock for immediate distribution. The second document lists any retailer cards that you can special order from the school with order deadline dates.

Gift card denominations are avail-able for as little as $10 and as large as $100. Please review the attached documents for precise details.

The school is undergoing many changes and Scrip is included. In the very near future the Parents Club will be taking on the Scrip distribution responsibility.

Please stay tuned for new pro-cesses and procedures on this popular fundraising option.

Any questions can be directed to the school office at (916) 451-2111.

October Monthly Prayer

To Our Lady of the Rosary

O Virgin Mary, grant that the recitation of thy Rosary may be for me each day, in the midst of my manifold duties, a bond of unity in my actions, a trib-ute of filial piety, a sweet refreshment, an encouragement to walk joyfully along the path of duty. Grant, above all, O Virgin Mary, that the study of thy fifteen mysteries may form in my soul, little by little, a luminous atmosphere, pure, strengthening, and fragrant, which may penetrate my understanding, my will, my heart, my memory, my imagination, my whole being. So shall I acquire the habit of praying while I work, without the aid of formal prayers, by interior acts of admiration and of supplication, or by aspirations of love. I ask this of thee, O Queen of the Holy Rosary, through Saint Dominic, thy son of predilection, the renowned preacher of thy mysteries, and the faithful imi-tator of thy virtues. Amen.

The month of October is dedicated to the holy rosary, one of the best known of all Catholic devotions. October includes the

Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary (October 7).

Talking with god

Smith climbs to the top of Mount Si-nai to talk to God. Looking up, he asks the Lord. "God, what does a mil-lion years mean to you?"

The Lord replies, "A minute."

Smith asks, "And what does a million dollars mean to you?"

The Lord replies, "A penny."

Smith asks, "Can I have a penny?"

The Lord replies, "In a minute."

Church etiquette

A Sunday school teacher asked her little children, as they were on the way to church service, "And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?"

One bright little girl replied, "Because people are sleeping."

Church bulletin fun

Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our church and community.

This being Easter Sunday, we will ask Mrs. Lewis to come forward and lay an egg on the altar.

A bean supper will be held on Thursday evening. Music will fol-low.
