PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE REMEMBRANCE DAY
One hundred years on from the end of World War 1, Holsworthy Public School held a Remembrance Day
Ceremony. Our students were outstanding during this service to remember and reflect on this important
day in our history. It was led by our school ministers and was attended by all students, who listened to the
tributes to our soldiers. The history of the poppy had been discussed in classrooms and students proudly
wore their poppies. Thank you to Mrs Coleman for her artwork and display and also to Mrs Wray and Mrs
Murdoch for their organisation of the day.
A special thank you to Major Ernie Felix for his inspiring speech.
The following poem was read and written by Sione Felix.
Soldier Care Package Christmas Appeal
Holsworthy PS would like to recognise the efforts of Australian armed forces by creating and sending care
packages to our soldiers for Christmas.
They kiss their families goodbye, they leave their homes, they spend weeks,
months, years, serving on our behalf. It’s time to give something back.
If you are looking for a way to show your gratitude to our Aussie soldiers, then
this is a small gesture that will mean so much.
What can be included in Care Packages?
The Defence Force recommends items like toiletries (roll-on deodorant, lip balm, shower gel) and non-perishable
food (biscuits, lollies, instant noodles). Magazines, puzzle books, DVDs, and – a Christmas staple – socks are
also good additions.
Below is a list of suggested items we would like each grade to donate. Any donation will be much
appreciated. If you could follow the guide it will make package creation more efficient.
Kinder Bags of lollies (strictly no chocolate please)
Year 1 Socks (male or female)
Year 2 Roll on deodorant or shaving cream (male or female)
Year 3 Small bottle of talcum powder (male or female)
Year 4 Shower gel, soap or lip balm (male or female)
Year 5 Instant noodles or biscuits (strictly no chocolate please)
Year 6 Small tinned foods with ring pull for ease of opening
Items can be sent to the school up until Friday 29 November. We will not be able to accept items after
this date.

candidates will be announced publicly at Presentation Day on Tuesday 11 December 2018. The year 5
students spoke superbly and with confidence and clarity. They were both expressive and passionate. Some

to all students on their wonderful ability to effectively engage the audience.

A GREAT ACHIEVEMENT
Congratulations to Saawan Sharma (5/6M), who participated in a 82 km
charity bike ride (MS Sydney to the Gong) on 4 November 2018. The
ride from Sydney to Wollongong was to raise funds for people living
with multiple sclerosis. Despite many obstacles, he proudly finished the
ride smiling.
He was one of the youngest riders to participate. Well done

On Tuesday 20 November, four students from year 5 went to
Holsworthy High School to compete in Round 4 of the Holsworthy
High School Challenge Cup against students from Hammondville PS
and Wattle Grove PS. This round was the “Freakshake Challenge”.
The students competed in school teams to design and prepare a
freakshake, a crazy milkshake, in the kitchens of Holsworthy High
School. Jake, Katrina, Hazel and Stephen worked together to design
two different recipes
for freakshakes, they
were allocated a
budget to spend on
ingredients and with
the help of a year 12
student, they made their freakshakes. The students
had a great time mixing and decorating their
milkshakes and the part they enjoyed the most was
drinking their freakshake at the end of the
challenge. Unfortunately we did not win this
challenge but the students worked well together and
had a fantastic day over at Holsworthy HS.

SCRIPTURE NEWS Diwali Holsworthy Public School’s Diwali Celebration was an amazing event filled with colour, dancing and music. It was a lovely way for our Hindu students to show off their culture to the rest of the school. It is important to thank Mrs Kavita Nampali, Mrs Varsha Lekhi who organised the event with many parents and community members. We are pleased to say that everyone who got to see it or be part of it enjoyed the experience.

STAGE 2 STEM PROJECT
Throughout Term 4, Stage 2 students have had the privilege of taking part in a STEM project at
Holsworthy High School.
Year 3 have been creating h2o cars with the help of their teachers, the high school teachers and
students. Students will test their cars using compressed air as fuel to see how far their cars will
travel.
Year 4 have been completing a design process with TAS teachers designing cookie cutters using
a 3D printer. The students are also making cookie dough in the high school TAS rooms with the
high school students. The Year 4 students will use the cookie cutters and dough to create their
own culinary creations.
This project has been done in collaboration with Holsworthy High School and the amazing staff
from the TAS department.
