UPCOMING EVENTS

Liturgical Ministers Needed!!

Liturgical Ministers are needed at our

Sunday 11:45am Mass.

If you would be willing and/or able to serve as a

Sacristan, Communion Minister or Lector

please call the Parish Office and talk to Kiley.

From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Parishioners,

By the time you read this I hope to have

taken down my Christmas tree and put away

the decorations until next year. If it doesn’t happen, oh

well, Christmas seems to arrive earlier every year so if I

just leave it up, Christmas will be here before I know it.

All kidding aside, I have enjoyed seeing a Christmas

tree every day and beautifully lit every night. And just

think, only eleven months and four days until

Christmas!

I shared with you during part of the homily time

today an update on the Pope John Paul II funds. At the

end of August, I stated to you at Mass that I wanted to

have a conversation with parishioners regarding what to

do with the approximately three quarters of a million

dollars that was donated beginning in 2007 for this

project. Since becoming pastor of Holy Cross, I have

spoken with both the Finance and Parish Council

members about the needs of this parish. Our need for

more and larger meeting rooms has been mentioned

more than once by these members. On December 2nd,

about 45 parishioners attended a meeting to discuss the

PJPII funds. The vast majority appeared to be open to

begin laying the groundwork for some kind of building

project. Whatever is decided, by Canon Law, the funds

already collected must and will stay true to the intent of

the original project which was to build something with

meeting rooms, a gathering space, and a library.

Parishioners gave their donations in good faith and I

will, in good faith, see that these donations are used as

intended. By the grace of God, our parish will continue

to grow and, as good stewards, we must do our best to

meet the current and future needs of every parishioner.

The new office hours have been in effect for a week

now. The office is open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and

Thursdays and until 4 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays,

and Fridays. Please know that we’re here to assist you.

Baptism classes are coming up again beginning this

week. Parents and Godparents desiring baptism for

their child have an informative couple of classes both

this Monday and next to prepare for this great and

important Sacrament. I enjoy teaching this class and

will be working with parishioners Randy and Tess

Boyer in this endeavor.

The Gospel today relates to baptism as Jesus invites

these first disciples to ‘connect’ with Him and to repent,

and believe in the gospel as the kingdom of heaven is at

hand. As we reflect on the importance of baptism and

our own baptism, we are able to see in faith why

baptism is so necessary.

God bless you, Fr. Richard

MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION TO MASS

Our parish operates a Transportation Ministry which picks

up disabled or seniors unable to drive from a local retirement

home and brings them to and from the 9:45 Mass using vol-

unteers from our parish.

We would like be able to offer this ministry to other nursing

or retirement homes and to other masses, if we can obtain

volunteers willing and able to do so. Please call the parish

office if you can provide such assistance on a weekly, semi-

monthly or monthly basis.

dispuestos a hacerlo. Por favor llama a la oficina si tú eres

capaz de proporcionar dicho servicio, semanalmente, o cada

dos semanas o una vez al mes.

Active Parishioner Status

We receive many requests from parishioners to qualify for weddings here, or to be godparents or sponsors for the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation, and to rightfully enjoy the number of services offered at Holy Cross Parish. Part of that request is to be able to verify that a person is an “active member” of the Parish. Because of the na-ture of our congregation, it is difficult to know everyone.

An “active member” of the parish is one who: Is properly registered and on the parish

census Faithfully attends Mass on Sundays and

Holy Days Participates in parish activities when

possible Uses the parish envelope provided

While assessments of an inquirer's status will be made individually, the above points are the main factors that will be considered in making that determination.
