Holy Cross Catholic Church “A community of disciples of Jesus Christ called to celebrate, proclaim, and share the love of God with all people.” April 15, 2018 Third Sunday of Easter Good Easter People of Holy Cross, Some people think the Resurrection is just this weird thing that happened long ago, or a spooky, supernatural thing. The Resurrection is far more profound. There are a lot of silly oversimplifications about our faith. Why do Catholics pray to Mary? Well, we don’t really do that. Why do Catholics think that the Pope is better than Jesus? Well, we don’t really think that. Lots of people raised Catholic heard things that are not true. “I grew up Catholic, and was taught to read the Bible literally.” Well, we Catholics don’t read the Bible literally. “A nun told me that Native Americans are going to hell.” Well, no. Sister is dead wrong! It’s the same with the Resurrection. Too often people don’t know that the Church is always celebrating Resurrection; you cannot be a Christian unless you believe Jesus rose from the dead. I want to quote a passage from our Catechism. No one was an eyewitness to Jesus’s resurrection and no evangelist describes it. No one can say how it came about physically. Still less was its innermost essence, his passing over to another life, perceptible to the senses. Although the Resurrection was an historical event that could be verified by the sign of the empty tomb…still it remains at the very heart of the mystery of faith as something that transcends and surpasses history (647).” The Resurrection was more than a physical event, more than a mere resuscitation. Jesus is not a ghost, he is not a hallucination. We need only to be open to seeing Jesus in our world, our loved one, our enemies, in our daily lives, knowing that God can and does raise things that have died. How awesome is this Good News! Fr. Good Easter People of Holy Cross, Some people think the Resurrection is just this weird thing that happened long ago, or a spooky, supernatural thing. The Resurrection is far more profound. MINISTRIES

RENOVATION UPDATES

· The new cost, as we tile the entire church, requires an additional 100K. Some parishioners have committed to adding to their pledge, how about you? It just makes sense that we do this now, and with your assistance, we won’t have to dip into church savings….I am praying for your continued and wonderful generosity! Please help!!

· Confessions will still be heard in the confessionals. · Do not park and block possible ER vehicles. This means only using the handicap parking spaces…

The Knights of Columbus invite you to their Trivia Night and Taco Bar on April 21 after the 5pm Mass in the Parish Hall. $10/person at the door and $70 for a table of 8. All proceeds will benefit the VA. All are welcome!

Holy Cross Ultreya will meet Sat. April 14 in the Parish Hall after the 5pm Mass. Please bring a dish to share and join us for a potluck dinner. Call Mary Lu Christiansen at 770-491-1485 for any questions.

ALTAR SERVER APPRECIATION PARTY Holy Cross is proud of our altar servers and the Knights of Columbus is sponsoring this event in appreciation of their service. This year’s party will return to the Bowlmor Lanes at 2175 Savoy Drive on Sunday, April 29th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Be prepared to out-bowl our parish priests, if they aren’t too scared to show up. Bowling, shoes, pizza, soft drinks and an arcade card will all be provided (make sure to bring socks). Parents can feel free to drop off, or stay to watch/help. Please RVSP to Tom Probst at [email protected] or 404-402-3073 so we can make sure we have enough bowling lanes.

CALLING ALL MOMS! Come join in on the fun with the Holy Cross Moms’ Group. Meet other moms and be a part of this ministry! Join us April 19th

for our morning play date in room 13, 9:30am-11:30am. Like us on Facebook at Holy Cross Atlanta Moms’ Group. Please contact Kristin Pettus with questions at [email protected].
