March 2020 Virtue: Forgiveness
“Foregivenss is a gift to yourself”. Oscar Romero
Dear Holy Cross Families!
Welcome to March, the month of Forgiveness. Let us re-
member what Jesus said, “Do to others as you would
wish them to do to you”. We need to find the courage to forgive one
another and treat each other with respect. As the liturgical season
of Lent begins, let us keep in mind the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus
made for us, giving up his life. As Catholics we are called to make a
small sacrifice during this time by giving up something we enjoy.
Thanks to the hard work of staff, students were able to participate
in memorable learning opportunities such as Valentine’s Day
Dance, 100 Days of School Celebration , Carnaval and various ex-
cursions. Thank you to the Parent Council for all their work in or-
ganizing our annual Family Skate Night!
As we look ahead I would like to wish all our families an enjoyable
and safe March Break!

Winter Reminders
The weather is getting colder and that means students need to come to school
dressed appropriately with coats, hats, mittens, scarves and snow pants. It is important that stu-
dents come to school prepared to go outside for recess. We always try to get the students outside
as much as possible during the school day so they may receive a break from the structured, aca-
demic part of the day and it also promotes daily physical activity.
During times of inclement weather (rain) or extreme cold, the school will be open for
supervised access at 8:45am and students will be permitted to enter the building. Kin-
dergarten students will be escorted to class by a staff member or a student leader.
Grade 1 to 8 students will proceed to class on their own where there will be staff on
duty.
Cold Alerts & Weather Related Cancellations/Closures
With the arrival of winter weather, Twitter (@TCDSB) and the board website are the best
sources of the latest information relating to cold weather alerts, cancellations and clo-
sures. Get all the information here:

Safe Arrival
The TCDSB has introduced a feature called SafeArrival within the SchoolMessen-
ger App. which enhances our existing student absence-reporting procedures.
You can use your mobile or desktop device to download and install SchoolMes-
senger app https://go.schoolmessenger.com) or call toll free # 1-833-251-3286.
The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your acct. Select Attend-
ance then Report an Absence. These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Future absences
can be reported at any time up to a maximum of 10 consecutive days. It is important to note that when set-
ting up your account, you must register using the email address and phone number associated with your
child’s student record. Please do not call the school to report your child’s absence as the system will call
out if you have not reported using the Safe Arrival App.
Holy Cross is Allergen Aware!
The TCDSB has an anaphylaxis policy in place to help and support students
with severe and life threatening allergies. This is mandated by Sabrina’s Law
which was passed on January 1st, 2006. Holy Cross requires the support of
the school community in refraining from sending peanuts, nuts and nut
products to school. Please note that baked goods and treats are not permitted for cele-
brations or sharing within our classrooms. Also, please remind your child not to share his/her
snack or lunch. Let’s all do our part to keep our students safe.
Visitors to the School
TCDSB policy states that all visitors to the school MUST report to the office.
This is to ensure the safety of all students. Parents/Guardians are asked to
leave the school yard once their child/ren are dropped off. This prevents
the yard from getting congested and allows the staff on duty to be better
able to supervise the students. If you would like to speak to your child’s
teacher, you may leave a message through the school office. Thanks for
your co-operation in helping us provide a safe environment for all of our
students.
Student Safety & Front Door dropoff
Parents/Guardians, when using the front of the school drop off area (for school and child care) you must park
in a parking spot. DO NOT leave your car idling unattended or parked in front of the school as this poses a
safety risk. As a reminder, school begins at 9:00am, please drop your children off in the schoolyard where they
can start their day lined up with their classmates. Students should not be entering the front door unless they
are late and require a late slip. This becomes a challenging issue when teachers have already marked stu-
dents absent and they have now entered the school without a late slip. Childcare students should be
dropped off at childcare before 9:00a.m.
