FROM THE PASTOR’S DESKDear Parishioners,I do hope that you are still enjoying the summer and have been able to unwind. Perhaps even accomplishing some things you may have planned.
There is one item I wish to draw to your attention: Annual Salmon BBQ on Sunday, September 18th – (It is also the Feast Day of the Holy Cross). The celebration will begin with children’s activities in the afternoon, followed by the BBQ...Please join us. There will be more info in the upcoming September bulletin.
The active participation of volunteers has been key in making this celebration an annual success. Please consider volunteering and attend the meeting on Wednesday, August 17 & September 7th at 7:30pm in the church basement.
In keeping with my promise (July bulletin) of a short Pastor’s column, I leave you with this thought. We are all familiar with the cliché “sit back, relax and enjoy the. . . .” Well, the other day, I came across this one: “Sit back, relax and let God take the steering wheel. I guarantee He’ll take you to places you couldn’t even dream of”.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE HOLY CROSS ANNUAL SALMON BARBECUE – The Holy Cross Annual Salmon Barbecue is on September 18th. We are in need of volunteers for this community event. If you are interested in volunteering, please attend the meetings at 7:30pm on Wednesday August 17th and September 7th. The meetings will be in the church basement.
PERMANENT DIACONATE ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS Archbishop Miller has announced that a third group of men will begin formation for the Permanent Diaconate in September. Classes will run from September to June, on one Friday evening and one Saturday each month. Efforts will be made to accommodate the needs of men with younger families. EPISCOPAL ORDINATION & INSTALLATION OF BISHOP-ELECT JOSEPH NGUYEN – All are welcome to the celebration of the episcopal ordination and installation of our current Vicar General and former Director of Vocations, Bishop-Elect Joseph Nguyen, as the sixth bishop of Kamloops. The ordination and installation will take place at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 3pm. Return bus service from Vancouver to Kamloops available; buses will leave Holy Rosary Cathedral (646 Richards Street, Vancouver) on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 8:00am. Buses will leave Kamloops at 6:00pm to arrive back in Vancouver at approximately 10:30pm. Cost for return trip: $80 per adult, which includes GST and tip. Payment can be made by Visa, Mastercard or cash. Travel insurance is strongly recommended, and all will need to sign a standard Waiver of Liability. WCCCLC 2016 - Western Canada Chinese Catholic Living Camp is during Sept 2-5 at Camp Charice in Chiliwack. This retreat is for Chinese youths, 17-35 years old, and registration has begun!
