Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
People And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever.

The Celebrant may say
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and
from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world:
have mercy on us;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father:
receive our prayer.
3
For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,

The First Reading 2 Samuel 18:5-9, 15, 31-33
Reader A reading from the second book of Samuel.
The king, David, ordered Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying,
“Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom.” And
all the people heard when the king gave orders to all the
commanders concerning Absalom. So the army went out into
the field against Israel; and the battle was fought in the forest
of Ephraim. The men of Israel were defeated there by the
servants of David, and the slaughter there was great on that
day, twenty thousand men. The battle spread over the face of
all the country; and the forest claimed more victims that day
5
than the sword. Absalom happened to meet the servants of
David.
Absalom was riding on his mule, and the mule went under the
thick branches of a great oak. His head caught fast in the oak,
and he was left hanging between heaven and earth, while the
mule that was under him went on.
And ten young men, Joab’s armor-bearers, surrounded
Absalom and struck him, and killed him.
Then the Cushite came; and the Cushite said, “Good tidings
for my lord the king! For the Lord has vindicated you this
day, delivering you from the power of all who rose up against
you.” The king said to the Cushite, “Is it well with the young
man Absalom?” The Cushite answered, “May the enemies of
my lord the king, and all who rise up to do you harm, be like
that young man.”
The king was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over
the gate, and wept; and as he went, he said, “O my son
Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead
of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!”

Psalm 130 (read responsively by full verse)
1 Out of the depths have I called to you, O LORD;
LORD, hear my voice; *
let your ears consider well the voice of my
supplication.
2 If you, LORD, were to note what is done amiss, *
O Lord, who could stand?
3 For there is forgiveness with you; *
therefore you shall be feared.
4 I wait for the LORD; my soul waits for him; *
in his word is my hope.
5 My soul waits for the LORD,
more than watchmen for the morning, *
more than watchmen for the morning.
6 O Israel, wait for the LORD, *
for with the LORD there is mercy;
7 With him there is plenteous redemption, *
and he shall redeem Israel from all their sins.

The Second Reading Ephesians 4:25-5:2
Reader A reading from Paul’s letter to the Church in
Ephesus.
Putting away falsehood, let all of us speak the truth to our
neighbors, for we are members of one another. Be angry but
do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do
not make room for the devil. Thieves must give up stealing;
rather let them labor and work honestly with their own hands,
so as to have something to share with the needy. Let no evil
talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for
building up, as there is need, so that your words may give
grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of
God, with which you were marked with a seal for the day of
redemption. Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and
anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and
be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
as God in Christ has forgiven you. Therefore be imitators of
God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us
and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to
God.

The Gospel Hymn
“To thee,O Comforter divine”
The Gospel John 6:35, 41-51
Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according
to John.
People Glory to you, Lord Christ.
Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will
never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be
thirsty.”
Then the Jews began to complain about him because he said,
“I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They were
saying, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and
mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I have come down
from heaven’?” Jesus answered them, “Do not complain
among yourselves. No one can come to me unless drawn by
the Father who sent me; and I will raise that person up on the
last day. It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be
taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the
Father comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father
except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Very
truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the
bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness,
and they died. This is the bread that comes down from
11
heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living
bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this
bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the
life of the world is my flesh.”

The Sermon The Rev. Toby Rowe
The Nicene Creed BCP 358
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
13
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People BCP 387
Deacon or Priest says
Let us pray for the Church and for the world.
Intercessor continues
Grant, Almighty God, that all who confess your Name may be
united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your
glory in the world.
We remember this Sunday in the Anglican cycle of prayer
the Church of South India (United). We give thanks for our sister
15
faith communities in the River Valley, especially the Ola First
Baptist Church and Hillcrest Pentecostal Church.
Silence
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Guide the people of this land, especially Joe our President, Asa our
Governor, and Richard our Mayor, and of all the nations, in the
ways of justice and peace; that we may honor one another and
serve the common good.
Silence
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Give us all a reverence for the earth as your own creation, that we
may use its resources rightly in the service of others and to your
honor and glory.
Silence
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Bless all whose lives are closely linked with ours, and grant that
we may serve Christ in them, and love one another as he loves us.
We pray for those who have birthdays this week, especially Kristin
Smith, Laird Duran, Patricia Delabra, and Mark Hlass.
We pray for those who are celebrating anniversaries this week.
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
16
Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit; give
them courage and hope in their troubles, and bring them the joy of
your salvation.
We pray especially for Miguel, Jon & Pam, James, Penny & the
Tucker family, Ann, Lilly, Bob, Hank, Arcelia, Tony, Pat, Yvonne,
and Sabrina, for all who have contracted the Covid-19 virus, and
those who have lost loved ones in the pandemic.
We pray for those expecting a child, especially Htee Hsee & Po Tu
Tu, Beth McGregor & Michael Jacobides, Thaw & Blut Soe.
We pray also for those serving in the military, especially Brian,
Sarah, Cameron, Cody, and Johnathan.
Silence
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
We commend to your mercy all who have died, especially those
who have died from the novel coronavirus or racial violence, that
your will for them may be fulfilled; and we pray that we may share
with all your saints in your eternal kingdom.
Silence
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
The Celebrant adds this concluding Collect.
Almighty and eternal God, ruler of all things in heaven and
earth: Mercifully accept the prayers of your people, and
strengthen us to do your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Confession of Sin BCP 360
17
The Deacon or Celebrant says
Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.
Silence may be kept.
Minister and People
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.
The Bishop, when present, or the Priest, stands and says
18
Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and
by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.
The Peace (all standing)
Celebrant The peace of the Lord be always with you.
People And also with you.
The Ministers and People greet one another in the name of the
Lord.
Greeting and Announcements
The Liturgy of the Table
The Offertory Anthem

The Great Thanksgiving, Prayer C
The people stand. The Celebrant, whether bishop or priest, faces
them and sings or says
The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Celebrant Lift up your hearts.
People We lift them to the Lord.
19
Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give him thanks and praise.
Then, facing the Holy Table, the Celebrant proceeds
God of all power, Ruler of the Universe, you are worthy of glory
and praise.
Glory to you for ever and ever.
At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse
interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and
this fragile earth, our island home.
By your will they were created and have their being.
From the primal elements you brought forth the human race, and
blessed us with memory, reason, and skill. You made us the rulers
of creation. But we turned against you, and betrayed your trust;
and we turned against one another.
Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight.
Again and again, you called us to return. Through prophets and
sages you revealed your righteous Law. And in the fullness of time
you sent your only Son, born of a woman, to fulfill your Law, to
open for us the way of freedom and peace.
By his blood, he reconciled us.
By his wounds, we are healed.
And therefore we praise you, joining with the heavenly chorus,
with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with all those in every
generation who have looked to you in hope, to proclaim with them
your glory, in their unending hymn:
Celebrant and People
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory,
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the Highest.
20
The people stand or kneel.
Then the Celebrant continues
And so, Father, we who have been redeemed by him, and made a
new people by water and the Spirit, now bring before you these
gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be the Body and Blood
of Jesus Christ our Lord.
On the night he was betrayed he took bread, said the blessing,
broke the bread, and gave it to his friends, and said, "Take, eat:
This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the
remembrance of me."
After supper, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and said,
"Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant,
which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me."
Remembering now his work of redemption, and offering to you
this sacrifice of thanksgiving,
We celebrate his death and resurrection,
as we await the day of his coming.
Lord God of our Fathers: God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; God
and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Open our eyes to see your
hand at work in the world about us. Deliver us from the
presumption of coming to this Table for solace only, and not for
strength; for pardon only, and not for renewal. Let the grace of this
Holy Communion make us one body, one spirit in Christ, that we
may worthily serve the world in his name.
Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the Bread.
Accept these prayers and praises, Father, through Jesus Christ our
great High Priest, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, your
Church gives honor, glory, and worship, from generation to
generation. AMEN.
21
And now, as our Savior
Christ has taught us,
we are bold to say,
People and Celebrant
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
The Communion
22
The Celebrant breaks the consecrated Bread.
A period of silence is kept.
Then is said
Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us;
Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia.
Facing the people, the Celebrant says the following Invitation
The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in
remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your
hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.
Wherever you are in your journey of faith,
you are welcome in this place; you are welcome at Christ’s table.
Communion Hymn “For the bread which you have broken”
After Communion, the Celebrant says
Let us pray.
Celebrant and People BCP 365
Eternal God, heavenly Father,
you have graciously accepted us as living members
of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ,
and you have fed us with spiritual food
in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood.
Send us now into the world in peace,
and grant us strength and courage
23
to love and serve you
with gladness and singleness of heart;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Blessing
The Bishop when present, or the Priest, gives the blessing
The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your
hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son
Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain
with you always. Amen.
The Recessional The Prayer Attributed to St. Francis
Celebrant and People
Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is
hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where
there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where
there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where
there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to
24
be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is
in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we
are born to eternal life. Amen.
The Dismissal
The Deacon, or the Celebrant dismisses the people with these or
similar words
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
People Thanks be to God.
