Building Campaign Plans

There’s still some tweaking to the building campaign plans that needs to be done, so we are shooting to unveil it

all on the weekend of September 9 and 10. I had originally hoped to do it this weekend, but extra time is needed to get things right. We will have architectural renderings on display in the back of the church and answer questions you might have. A feasibility study to gather your input will take place the entire month of October.

School enrollment numbers—Pretty much a tie—which means a victory!

We all know how unsatisfying it is in sports to tie. When it comes to school numbers, I’ll take it. That’s because we are facing a demographic challenge on our hands with much fewer kids in families. Also, Illinois as you probably know, is losing the most residents of any state, and the Rockford area has been impacted by that. When it comes to enrollment numbers in our school, that demographic disadvantage is most clearly seen in the difference between our graduating class and our incoming class. This past May, we graduated a class of 44 and this year’s first grade class is only 24. That leaves us a deficit of 20 kids just to start. Then we had some kids move out of state (part of that exodus out of Illinois).

That’s why it’s so significant that we are only down six kids from last year’s total. We have brought in a lot of new kids scattered throughout all the grades. Our principal, Cori Gendron, her assistant, Cindy Hamilton, and our entire faculty get high marks for recruiting! That compares to last year where we started the year down 49 students. So that’s why I’d say this “tie” is a major victory. Praise God as we begin to turn the corner on the health and vibrancy of our school. Continue your prayers so that next year I report to you my goal--that we have actually gained students. Fatima Apparitions Continued

We continue now with the July apparitions. Because the local priest did not believe it at first, and Lucia’s mother didn’t believe, Lucia became depressed as July 13 came closer; whereas Jacinta and Francisco were looking forward to it. Lucia was thinking of not going for the July apparition, which is hard for us to fathom. But it’s an indication of how much she valued and respected their opinions.

The July apparition might be the one of the six that had the most significant substance to it. It was at this one where Lucia asked for a miracle and Mary said she would do one in October (this would be known as the “Miracle of the Sun”). That seemed to satisfy Lucia who was getting a lot of pressure from people who thought she was making it up. In this apparition, Mary also said some people Lucia mentioned would be cured, but not others. Praying the Rosary was a general condition for the reception of grace.

July is also when Our Blessed Mother showed them a vision of Hell. This had to be quite a sight and was only brief, but obviously really shook up the kids. She also said World War I would end soon, but a worse war would begin if people didn’t cease offending God. To prevent that war, Mary would ask for the consecration of Russia. The details of that consecration would not come until years later in a private visit by Mary to Lucia once she was in the convent.

Finally, the day after the July apparition, the kids began in earnest the sacrifices they would make for souls. They

displayed a level of commitment and maturity that truly showed them to be the saints they were eventually

recognized to be. The next day after the apparition was scorching hot. They were out in the fields, but refused

water offered to them saying they wanted to offer it up for sinners. Jacinta nearly passed out. Truly amazing

what these kids experienced in just one day!

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,

Fr. Kaim

Pope St. John Paul II, “Auschwitz was

the Golgotha of our time.” - Doug Mainwaring, www.lifesitenews.com, writes, “News headlines have been filled with stories reflecting an eruption of hatred, racism, and growing antipathy between political groups.” Take 2.5 minutes to view a posting from Catholic evangelist, lay leader Chris Stefanick about what is a Catholic response to shouts of hatred. (https://tinyurl.com/y9h9jxur) Iceland kills 100% of babies with Down Syndrome in

abortion - Claire Chretien, www.lifesitenews.com, writes, “...babies in Iceland who are diagnosed with Down syndrome prenatally are aborted. Counselors tell expectant moms, “This is your life. You have the right to choose how your life will look.” Penny Nance, presi-dent & CEO of Concerned Women for America says, “This is eugenics and barbarianism. What’s next? That a country has eradicated all females? Oh wait, China has already been down that road.” (https://tinyurl.com/y8bm3joo) Method to ‘reverse’ abortions causes outrage at

Planned Parenthood - Peter Baklinski, www.lifesitenews.com, writes, “There are over 300 documented cases of women successfully reversing chemical abortions. The abortion industry has stepped up its opposition to abortion reversal after California’s Board of Registered Nursing announced that state nurs-es could begin training on how to perform the proce-dure. The chemical abortion (RU-486) involves two drugs that alter a woman’s body so she becomes chem-ically toxic to the new life. Dr. George Delgado, one of the doctors who pioneered the procedure, says, ‘Administering supplemental progesterone out-competes with the Mifepristone. The abortion industry is a high revenue one that depends on a perception that abortion is a relatively good thing. If people start to recognize that women do change their mind some-times after starting the abortion process, this casts doubt whether abortion is truly a good thing; because if it were such a universally good thing, why would women change their minds and try to reverse it? If we are fighting for women’s choice, then why don’t they respect a women’s choice to change her mind?’” An online site spearheaded by Delgado is AbortionPillRe-versal.com. Read more about it. Ten Reasons to Join one of our Choirs

10. You don’t have to win “The Voice.” Both of our choirs are made up of regular people who love to sing! 9. You’ll always have a great seat at Christmas and Easter. In fact, you’ll have a great seat every Sunday! 8. You’ll gain another family. Not only do we sing together, but we pray and share life with each other. 7. People in music lead happier, longer, and healthier lives. Ok, I don’t know if this is true, but is sure sounds good! 6. Intellectual Stimulation. When you make music, you use both sides of your brain (ok – again, I don’t know if this is true, but is sounds good!) 5. Singing in choir help promote teamwork. Each person has a part, and each part makes the whole! 4. Choir. Is. Fun. Enough said. 3. As St. Augustine told us – “Singing is praying twice!”

2. The collection basket is never passed through the choir loft.

—just kidding! 1. Worship. Singing is one of the best ways we have to praise God.

Our Traditional Choir and Contemporary Ensemble will begin rehearsing the first week of September! We would love to have YOU join one of these great groups of musicians! We are AL-WAYS looking for new members to join our family! If you’d like more information on either group, please email [email protected]

The workbooks are in for our First Corinthians Bi-ble Study. You may pick up yours at the Harte Cen-ter or receive it at our first class.

We are looking forward to a great study this fall. See you all on Monday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m. or Tuesday, September 12, at 9:15 a.m. If you have questions about the study please call Barb at 815-

398-4280.

Rosary Group Our Rosary group will be meeting on September 7 from 6:30 to 8:30. We are always looking for new members to join us. We will teach you the art of making a string-and-bead rosary. We have a lot of fun and fellowship, as well as wonderful treats to close the evening. Come join us if you are looking for something new and exciting.
