He didn’t go into a lot of detail, other than to state that he would be praying for us and to keep him in your pray- ers. So I got to thinking. . . . Maybe we need a short re- fresher course on ‘RETREATS’. What are they, why go on them, where do you go and for how long? First: What is a Retreat? In the simplest terms, it can be defined as a definite time spent away from one's normal life for the purpose of reconnecting, usually in prayer, with God. Second: Why go on a retreat? Spiritual retreats may have various themes that reinforce Christian values, princi- ples, and scriptural understanding. They may be individual or involve a group. Retreats for Christian youth groups are common, as are getaways for Religious Classes, men's and women's Bible Study groups, and preparation for receiving the sacraments, i.e. Confirmation. Third: Where do you go on a Retreat? You should make sure that you are going to a Catholic organized re- treat that is conducted by an organization truly faithful to all the teachings of the church and our Holy Father. Com- mon locations include churches and retreat centers. Re- treat centers can offer overnight accommodations, meals, activities, meeting rooms, and chapel space. Ideally, there should also be time to receive the sacrament of Reconcilia- tion and attend a Mass as part of the retreat. Fourth: How long do they last? Retreats can be for just a short time, maybe a few hours, or they can be as long as a month or more! (St. Paul went on a 3 year retreat! I’d suggest a shorter retreat for your first time.) It is not the length of the retreat that is so important, but rather, what you do with that time. Disconnect from phones, electron- ics, etc. Bring your bible, there will be “quiet time” - good for bible reading. Be prepared to do some meditation. They will last as long as you want them to last. When you leave the retreat, that is not a signal that it’s all over and go back to normal. Hopefully, you will take away some sug- gestions and ways to make your life better, closer to God, and ready to face all the challenges life throws at us with God at our side Go on a retreat and be prepared to spread the Good News! So that’s a little of what I learned in researching the topic of What is a Retreat? Study more and consider going on a retreat. It would be great to go on an annual retreat! The St. Francis Retreat Center in Dewitt is a good place to look for guidance in making a retreat. And don’t forget to pray for Fr. Bob and all priests as they go on retreats! Even our Holy Father goes on an annual retreat—we all need to recharge our “spiritual batteries”! Counting Schedule Jan. 20 - Team #3 Jan. 27 - Team #4

PRAYER CHAIN

Betty Sloat has been a parishioner here at Holy Family for almost 9 years. She is forming a Prayer Chain. Anyone interested in helping or for further details please call Betty at 989-506-2073 This is how a prayer chain works: Whom ever requests a prayer would call Betty. She would then call the first person on the list with the message. Then Betty would say the prayer. The person that was contacted would then call the second person on the list and pray the prayer again. This continues until all on the list have been contacted. If a call is not answered, you leave a message and then call the next person listed.

CANCELED—CANCELED—CANCELED—The Quilting Ministry is forced to cancel quilting for the entire month of February. The people in charge of locking up have decided to go on vacation —-all at the same time, go figure. So for that rea-son, we will NOT have any quilting starting Feb. 6th! We will have quilting during January. We will resume quilting on Mar. 7th! Stay home in Febru-ary, keep warm & safe. See you in March!
