SUNDAY OF MYRRH-BEARING WOMEN 4-го Травня May 4, 2014
Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Parish Українська Католицька Церква Пресвятої Родини
Христос Воскрес! Воістину Воскрес! Christ Is Risen! Indeed He Is Risen
Today we celebrate the Sunday of the Myrrh-bearing Women. Always celebrated on the second Sunday after Pascha, we recognise those who were the first to witness the empty tomb of the Risen Lord. As we read in today’s Gospel of Mark, we see that Mary (the mother of James), Mary Magdalene and a woman named Salome came to the tomb very early in the morning on the third day. When they had questioned who would roll away the large stone that had sealed off the tomb, they... Cont’d on page 4

ХРИСТОС ВОСКРЕС із мертвих, смертю смерть подолав і тим, що в гробах, ЖИТТЯ ДАPУВАВ!
Christ is risen from the dead, trampling death by death and to those in the tombs He granted life.
May Devotions - The month of May is devoted to the Blessed
Virgin Mother Mary. A Moleben service will be offered on Wednesdays in May, at 7:00 p.m. with the exception of May 14th where the Moleben service is at 6:00 pm. Come to Church, join us in honouring her, whom God first honoured by choosing her to be the Mother of His Son.
continued from cover page
The Myrrh-bearing Women had seen that the stone was in fact already rolled away. They ran inside to find an angel sitting there pointing to the empty shroud that had once been wrapped around Jesus Christ. The angel had said to them, “Do not be afraid! You have come looking for Jesus Christ. Why do you look among the dead? HE is risen! Go! Go and tell His disciples the good news!” Just as the Myrrhbearing Women were instructed to go and spread the new of the Risen Lord, we too are called to do the same. As Christians we are called to be followers of Christ as well as evangelists, spreading the story of the Risen Lord. As we continue to rejoice in the Resurrection and recall the words of His Beatitude, our Major Archbishop Sviatoslav. “...this is called evangelization, that is, we want to be ourselves, to be a truly living Church of Christ, which aims to bring the Good News to every person that is sent to us by the Lord God.” We should take from this statement and learn that every person we may encounter, we encounter for a reason. We are then to bring the Good News of the Resurrection to them. So here is a challenge to everyone. In the next few months and through the summer, do your best to evangelize. Spread the word to a stranger, a sibling, a children, a grandchild, or even your next door neighbor! Talk to them about the Good News. Bring them to church one day. Be the first to witness the empty tomb and go share the news of the Risen Lord!!
A Reminder: All are reminded that it is our tradition to stand in prayer during the Easter season. There are two postures for prayer during the period from Easter to Pentecost standing or sitting.

This week has been set aside as a time to reflect on the value of human life. In our society which now tolerates abortion without qualification, the need for a continuing strong voice on behalf of babies in the womb is more important than ever. At the same time, years of killing pre-born babies has set the stage for the next assault on human life - euthanasia. Respect Life Week offering envelopes are located in the. Your donation will help pro-life education.

Level 5
Catechism Program
The Level 5 Catechism Program focuses on Heroes of Christianity. The students work on researching a chosen Saint and to write a report project that help the kids understand how some of God's people had lived out their baptismal promise. By working on and then presenting their project to fellow Catechism Students, has helped all of us in the Catechism Program to learn more about courageous Christians,.
- Catechism Cordinator: Martin Pasieczka
Catechism Students holding their Saint Reports are: Meghan Balske (Saint Nicholas), Stefan Schaible-Schur (Blessed Vasyl Velychovsky), Daria Pidsadny (Saint Stephen), Catechism Teachers: Paula Pidsadny and Anna Schaible-Schur.
