FEAST OF ST. DOMINIC AUGUST 8, 2012

St. Dominic was born in Calaruega in Spain around the year 1170. He studied theology in Palencia and was made a canon of the church of Osma. He worked effectively against the Albigensian heresy through preaching and good example. To carry on this work he gathered together companions and founded the Order of Preachers, commonly known as the Dominican Order. He died in Bologna on August 6, 1221. His feast day is celebrated on August 8th.

This weekend, Joe will be away on vacation. We are very fortunate that in his absence we will have an equally talented musician to cover the liturgies. This weekend, our liturgies will be led by Frank Squillante. Frank began his Music Ministry in 1982 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Ardsley under the inspiration and leadership of Kathy Lewis and Rick Dalby. During his eight year tenure there, Frank composed several psalm settings and mu-sic for parts of the Mass including a full-length Latin Gloria for SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) choir. A former Pleasantville resident, Frank is no stranger to Holy Innocents, he was a member of our parish when he lived here, and has subbed for us in the past. After moving to Thornwood, he became the regular pianist for Heaven Song, at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne. Coincidentally, Heaven Song is directed by Elaine Curzio, who leads the music at our Sunday 5:15 PM mass. Frank is a trained jazz pianist, and occasionally appears locally in restaurant settings. He is pres-ently an elementary and middle school music teacher in the Ardsley public schools, a position he has held since 1991. The Music Ministry is happy to have Frank with us this weekend, and we hope you will join us in welcoming him back to Holy Innocents.

MASS FOR HEALING Holy Rosary Church 170 Bradhurst Avenue

Hawthorne

Monday, August 10th Celebrant: Fr. Louis Leonelli, CFR

Praise & Worship @ 7:15pm Mass 7:30pm

Sponsored by the Mother of God Prayer Group

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME August 2, 2015

First Reading: Exodus 16:2-4, 12-15:

The Israelites complain that Moses led them to the desert and there is no food for them there. Then the Lord told Moses he would rain down bread from heaven so the people might know that I, the Lord, am your God. God did as he had promised and in the morning the people found the bread that he had given them.

Second Reading: Ephesians 4:17, 20-24:

Paul tells the Ephesians that they must give up their old way of life and live in accordance with the truth that Christ has brought them. He reminds them to acquire a spiritual way of thinking, and to remember that they are made in God’s image and act accordingly.

Gospel: John 6:24-35:

The people Jesus had fed on five loaves of bread follow him, and Jesus tells them they should not be looking for perishable food, but for spiritual food. The people want a sign that they should believe in him. He explains that he is the bread of life, and anyone who believes will not experience hunger or thirst. The people did not fully understand that he was speaking in the spiritual sense, and not of actual food.

We need you—do you have an interest in discussing the challenges that face youth and parents, including underage drinking and drug use? If so, please join us; we invite you! Like us on Facebook.

Coalition Meetings held the third Wednesday of every month at 8:00pm at Pleasantville High School Library. Everyone is Welcome.

The (RCIA) Rite of Christian Initiation of

Adults is the process by which today’s Church welcomes new members into its communal life. RCIA is for

Adults who are not baptized and wish to

learn more about the faith and possibly becoming a Catholic.

Baptized Christians from other faiths who

want to learn more about the Catholic faith and possibly becoming Catholic.

Adults who are baptized Catholics but have

not yet received the Sacrament of Eucharist and who desire to enter more fully into the community of the Catholic Church.

Baptized Catholics who have received First Holy Communion and are regular practicing Catholics should NOT be enrolled in a parish catechumenate (RCIA) process for preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation. They should be prepared through a parish adult confirmation program and will be confirmed by a Bishop. The Archdiocesan Catechetical Office offers Adult Confirmation Programs through the diocese. Our neighboring parish, St. Augustine’s in Ossining, is offering an RCIA program and also a parish adult confirmation program. If you desire more information or are interested in either program, please contact Deacon John at 914-539-2482.
