IS IT SAFE TRAVELING TO ISRAEL ? Yes, Israel is very safe. Thousands of tour groups go the Holy Land every year, and tourism from the United States is booming in Israel. In fact, according to the American Israeli Cooperative Enterprise, since 1948 only one tourist from anywhere in the world has died from a terrorist attack in Israel. That happened in 1983. Compare that to how many people have died from terrorism

outside of Israel, including in the US, and then you realize just how safe Israel is. In general, travel in Israel is as safe or safer than traveling in the United States. Crime rates are well below those found in most other western countries. You can walk around the cities and towns at night without fear, as mugging and drunken violence is unknown. Overall, Israel offers a level of safety and freedom not found in many other countries. Occasionally, there are a few skirmishes along the country’s border, but these are very far away from where we will be traveling. Moreover, the response of the Israeli military is very swift and imposing. Virtually all problems along the borders are over in a matter of hours. Other websites that deal with this subject are found here and here.

GOOD TO KNOW Climate

For most parts of the year, the climate in the Holy land remains enjoyable. Winter season lasts for three months. In the remaining part of the year, the temperatures remain moderate in nature. The hottest months are the months of July and August.

Summer in the Holy land is relieved by the gentle wind that blows from the Mediterranean Sea, and although summer days are hot, the evenings are cool and the people even may require a sweater in some parts. The atmosphere is fresh and the air is unadulterated at the region.

Temperature in the summer season reaches up to 35º C and in the winter season the temperature may sometimes fall to zero. Rainfall is very restricted, and the months in which there is major rainfall are from November to February.

In the months of April, May and in the middle part of June, the inhabitants are relentlessly affected by the annual hot, sandy, dry and dusty Khamseen winds, which blow from the Arabian Desert.

In the whole day wintertime, there are seven hours of sunshine, which goes up to thirteen hours in summer time.

Visitors and the tourists are advised to wear light clothes in the summer and sweaters in the evening and night. During the winter season visitors should be well equipped with warm clothes.

GOOD TO KNOW

Currency The local currency is the New Israeli Shekel (NIS), or shortly the Shekel.

Although in many touristic places the Euro and the United States Dollars are widely accepted, please check the exchange rate in this page, based on the European Central Bank exchange rate.

GOOD TO KNOW

Language The official languages of the state of Israel are the Hebrew and Arabic, and although many Palestinians in the west bank speak Hebrew, the Arabic language remains the official language in the State of Palestine.

Since ages, the Holy Land has been an important destination to travelers from world wide, and thus, many of its local population speak English as well, besides some other international languages.
