Twenty-Seventh Sunday of

Ordinary Time (A) October 4, 2020

Reading I: Isaiah 5:1-7 Responsorial Psalm: 119:57,72,76-77,127-128,129-130 Reading II: Philippians 4:6-9 Gospel: Matthew 21:33-43

Theme: “Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone that the

b u i l d e r s r e j e c t e d h a s b e c o m e t h e cornerstone’” (Gospel)?

One thing I look forward each day is the walk I take after dinner. It is the best time to reflect what went through the day and look forward for the next day. The unhurried, paced, and meditative walk helps me a lot to process and sort out everything in my mind and heart. I usually pick up inspiration from the Holy Scriptures to accompany my walk. The verse from St. Paul in today’s second reading is an example. “Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:6). After every walk, I experience tremendous peace, contentment, and calm and ready for the night of rest. With gratitude and faith, I pray as I entrust everything to God.

Each of us is different in our coping ways, but one thing we know is that we are all burdened by the prolonged and elevated anxiety brought about by the pandemic crisis. The absence of social and communal support can take its toll. Learn to cope healthily and embrace the challenges of life. With all precautions, come to celebrate with us the Eucharist as we do it outdoors. There are limits to what you can get from watching it from TV or Ipad. We are all invited to partake of God’s sacraments especially the Holy Eucharist.

The parable today in the gospel reminds us of how we should respond to God’s generosity. The ungrateful tenants did not only withhold what is not theirs but also killed the collectors and messengers. Worse, they also even killed the son’s owner. Sin usually starts small but can metastasize and bring more havoc to the soul. We are invited to accept the offer of life and salvation in Jesus Christ. One thing necessary is to open our hearts to the grace and love of God. Let us not be complacent, arrogant, and obstinate when the Lord asks us to render praise and worship. Let us be grateful to God for everything.

Let us pray: Almighty God and Father comfort us in your mercy and grant us peace through Jesus Christ your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever, Amen.

Vigésimo Séptimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario (A) 4 de octubre de 2020

Lectura I: Isaías 5: 1-7 Salmo responsorial: 119: 57,72,76-77,127-128,129-130 Lectura II: Filipenses 4: 6-9 Evangelio: Mateo 21: 33-43

Pastoral Reflection By Jeffrey Herber, Pastoral Council Member

The Master of the household provided all that was necessary for the vineyard. He built the best of everything and hired tenants to care for it and work it. The Master would take his fair share of the profits from the vineyard and pay his tenants well; the Master wanted only what belonged to him. God the Father built all that is, Genesis 1: 1-26, and John 1:3 “Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.” He built all that is perfectly, and he built it for us the tenants, his children. God the Father wants only what is his fair share, only what belongs to him, God the Father wants us, his children, to Love him as he loves us. The tenants, having distress in their lives, wanted more than they deserved to ease their lot in life. They were willing to rob, steel, and even kill to take that what was not theirs. Life is difficult in unique ways to each one of us, but for all of us we have nothing more to do than to turn to God for help. Will he grant us money or a better job as we request? Perhaps, as God is omnipotent, for there is nothing he cannot do. But what he will do and always does is provide us peace, peace from the anxiety of this world. Simply by reaching out to him, giving him our troubles, and thanking him for the blessings He has given us, He will in turn grant us the answers to our prayers, with a since of peace that can only come from him. We need to remember that God the Father always has his hand extended out to us; it is up to us to reach out to him and place our hand in his, to turn to him in all our needs, and in doing so we will receive the blessing of peace.

Holy Name Church Attendance Procedures

We ask for Christian patience and understanding during these difficult and challenging times. It is imperative that each of us strictly abide by these procedures to prevent contamination and/or spread of the Covid-19 to one another.

For the safety of all, these procedures are mandatory and must be adhered to for Mass attendance. Anyone who cannot comply are asked to leave. Holy Name Catholic Church Procedures will follow the Archdiocese of San Antonio Guidelines for Mass Attendees and are as follows:

1. If you are feeling sick, we ask that you stay safe at home. We highly encourage those who are most vulnerable to continue to participate in mass via live stream or website (holynameusa.org).

2. Wash hands thoroughly before coming to the church.

3. Everyone must have their temperature taken before entering the church when applicable. Anyone with a fever will not be allowed entry. Anyone coughing or sneezing may not be allowed entry.

4. All must wear a face mask that covers both nose and mouth before entering the church and throughout the Mass. No exceptions except for infant children.

5. Bring hand sanitizer, your own missal or other mass aids to church.

6. Always maintain 6 feet between you and others not in your cohabitating family.

7. Follow the instructions of the ushers as you enter and leave the Church.

8. When guided by the ushers to receive communion, wear your mask receiving Communion, only removing it or lifting the mask up to consume Jesus away from the Priest or Deacon.

9. Seating will be on a first come first served basis for now, Mass capacity will be dependent on the number of attendees in each group, we can Safely seat. 10. Unfortunately, there will be no saving of seats. We ask that you ensure you enter with whomever you want to sit with. Once seated we cannot allow anyone to reposition because it will compromise the 6-foot separation distance.

11. After receiving Communion, we need everyone to maintain in their seats until the ushers direct your row towards the exits. We ask that you please be patient, as we are doing our best to maintain exiting in an orderly manner.

12. Finally, we ask that you be very patient with us, especially our volunteers who did not establish these procedures, but are only following them. They are giving of their time to help us conduct Mass, without volunteers this Mass would not happen. Thank you.
