Witnessing to the Risen Christ
Love Changes Our Minds and Hearts THE SCRIPTURES OF THE EASTER SEASON often remind us that fear can paralyze and weaken a person, family, or community. Fear diminishes happiness, inhibits growth, and acts a lot like chronic illnesses. And yet facing our fears—is one of the most growth inducing activities human beings engage in.
Identifying and engaging in the challenges of life is the seedbed of new life, fueled by the spirits of innovation, creativity, courage, and adventure. As most of us know after the death of a loved one, eventually we go back to work. We return to doing what we did when that loved one was with us. So it shouldn’t surprise us that the disciples went back to fishing. Only then did they come to realize the special person that Jesus
was, only then did they come to experience the risen Jesus’ presence and power in a new way.
Most of us want—even need—to know the risen Christ is with us in our ordinary lives. Not knowing only feeds our fears. In the character of St. Peter, St. John might be giving us a “rule of thumb” for recognizing an opportunity to meet the risen Jesus: Any moment we’re called to do things we’ve never done before. And we all know how easy it is to refuse those moments, thinking or saying I already have enough to do!
Reporting on Our Parish Consolidation GROWING TOGETHER AS A PARISH Parish unity was the dominant focal point that emerged this week from the discussions of leaders from Our Lady of the Rosary and Holy Name of Jesus parish communities.
As Father Tim has expressed it for his parish members: “A parish of the future needs unity.” It’s the “one key value” that ought to be the focus of all our ministries, organizations, and activities. “Unity”, as most of us know from our personal lives, is so often is all about “giving and giving up”. “The coming together of two communities is not just about keeping the doors of this [or any] building open, but rather the forging of a single community of service together.”
The consensus of these parish leaders on several things helped to put into place a solid start for the work to come. As we move forward we need to —
• Create and take advantage of every imaginable opportunity for building community
• Actively help each other not let our hurts and losses become excuses for giving up the practice of our faith, our participation in the life of the parish, or our belief in the importance of Catholic Church in North County
• Encourage each other to actively participate in the three weekend Masses our parish will celebrate
• Support and help with the work that small groups of parish leaders will be jointly working on as we now begin to organize our new parish as well as plan for the pastoral care of our members and the worship of our community.

Appeal Weekends in Our Parish
Beginning next weekend for your convenience parish volunteers will be available in the Community Center before and after each of our weekend Masses.
Saturday / Sunday April 16th / 17th April 23rd / 24th * April 30th / May 1st
We want to do everything possible to make it easy for you to participate in the Appeal and to support the charitable, educational, and social works of our Church across the Archdiocese.
Remember These Important Considerations
• Making your pledge or gift here at church—and reminding your friends and neighbors—really helps our volunteers. They will have to spend less time trying to contact you at home.
• Pledging your support for the Appeal over several months or the coming year often is an easy way for you to increase your support for these works of our Church.
• The Appeal is a very effective form of revenue sharing among parishes for the sake of a much stronger and more effective Catholic Church community throughout the Archdiocese.
In the past two year alone we have received over $550,000 for the operation of our school, emergency capital improvements, and for pastoral programs in support of our school and parish. We are greatly blessed in the generosity of other Catholic across the Archdiocese.

BRAIN POWER
Brains of older people are slow because they know so much. People do not decline mentally with age, it just takes longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains. Much like a computer struggles as the hard drive gets full, so, too, do humans take longer to access information when their brains are full. Researchers say this slowing down process is not the same as Alzheimer’s. The human brain works slower in old age, but only because we have stored more information over time. .The brains of older people do not get weak. On the contrary, they simply know more. Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand there and wonder what they came in there for. It is NOT a memory problem; it is nature’s way of making older people do more exercise. SO THERE1 Now when I reach for a word or name, I won’t excuse myself by saying “I’m having a senior moment.” Now, just say, “My disk is full!” I have more friends this should be sent to, but right now I can’t remember their names. So, please send this to your friends: they may be my friends, too. I hope you enjoy this. Laughing is the best way to relieve stress and relax. Laugh often, it is a wonderful sound. Have a Blessed Week and continue to celebrate the Risen Christ. S. Rose, SSND, RN

♫ “Those who sing pray twice.” ♫ - Attributed to St. Augustine NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME to join the Choir! The Easter Season is in full swing, so the music is joyful and the rehearsal pace is more relaxed than when preparing for Holy Week or Christmas. If you can match a pitch or someone has told you “you have a good voice!” and are high school age and up, you belong in the Choir. Consider using your talent and love of singing to enhance our parish liturgies. You will be happy you did - and happily welcomed! Also, if you know someone who sings well, encourage them to join, or better yet, join together! Give it a try.
Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm. Contact: Theresa McWilliams by email [email protected] by phone (314) 869-8938 or
