to work in our parish community. Currently Catholic Family Services and Catholic Charities have offices and programs located at our parish site. The Shared Accounting Office also supports parishes out of our Community Center. These programs/services are a visible active presence in the neighborhood of our church. A reality we must not undervalue since the facilities of many other mainline denominations tend to be vacant during the week and are often underutilized on the weekends.
As a parish we continue to strive to plan for and support the ministries, organizations, and activities necessary for parish life. In addition, for the sake of our mission as a parish of the Catholic Church, we also intend to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to us by previous generations and by the generosity of our current parishioners.
Our need for volunteers, especially as leaders of parish ministries, activities, and organizations, continues to be one of our greatest challenges.
Also, as I’ve listened to our members and discussed the future of our parish with them - formally and informally - many have simply wondered whether our integration as a parish, our unity as a parish, could be much more evident and effective if we worshiped together only at our parish church.
Planning Recommendations
I met with Archbishop Carlson in June concerning his request for a review of our parish’s unity and viability since the closing of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish as well as our use of the Chapel of Our Lady as a second worship site. He then consulted with Bishop Mark Rivituso, Vicar General Michael Boehm, Chief Financial Officer Rob Bouche, and Superintendent of Catholic Education Kurt Nelson concerning my recommendations for the future.
In July the Archbishop asked for more information which I reviewed with our Finance Committee in August. This report emphasized our commitment to being and becoming a vital and stable parish that envisions a long-term future in North County. Since 2005 we have been actively exploring “why” we are here as a parish and “how” best to conserve and strengthen our parish.
Today’s bulletin summary highlights the main elements of my second report to the Archbishop. All of our Pastoral Leadership Team, Parish Pastoral Council, and Finance Committee members received the entire second report, with my encouragement to speak with any and all interested parishioners. I am meeting with the Archbishop again soon. With his support and guidance we will move into the future with confidence and grace.
Our Ministry of Presence in North County Holy Name of Jesus Parish serves a membership of 1,292 registered parishioners and a general population of 66,000 people living in a 37 square mile area once covered by 14 parishes. Four (4) of the 9 poorest ZIP codes in St. Louis County are located within our parish boundaries.
For the past 5 years developing partnerships with other organizations has been one of our parish priorities. This will enable our parish and the Catholic Church of St. Louis to have a more evident and effective outreach to the community. We are carefully and intentionally using our resources to attract service organizations

SOUP, STEW AND CHILI Even though the temperature does not reflect it, it’s time to start thinking about our Soup, Stew and Chili Ministry. During the months of Oct through Mar., containers will be placed at the entrances of Holy Name of Jesus Church and Chapel of Our Lady on the first weekend of the month. Take home a container or two and fill it to the brim with your favorite recipe of soup, stew or chili. Each container holds approximately four bowls of soup. Freeze it and return it on the third weekend of the month before Mass. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Food Pantry, located in the city, will pick up the containers on Mon. and distribute them to their clients. Thank you for your help in making this minis-try’s season a success. A schedule when to pick up and return the containers will be pub-lished in future bulletins.
