Gerard church (currently under repair). Members of the family are

invited to inscribe the name of the deceased in the book, or add

to an existing family page. Other pertinent information may be

kept—for example, the date of death, the date of the funeral, and/or

the name of the cemetery where the remains can be found.

The book may be displayed on a stand next to the tabernacle.

Some parishes leave the book on permanent display. Others bring it

out for occasions like a wake, a funeral, All Souls Day, or through-

out the month of November. Carefully maintained and properly dis-

played, a book of the dead reminds the living of the people they

loved and lost. It records names of the body of Christ and inspires

prayer for their eternal rest.

This week’s bulletin insert features the names of those souls bur-

ied from, or honored by, Holy Spirit in the past year. Pray for them,

and to them. Paul Turner Copyright © 2012 Resource Publications, Inc., 160 E. Virginia St. #170, San Jose, CA 95112

Matrimony: A calling to forgive! “Mercy is the force that

reawakens us to new life and instills in us the courage to

look to the future with hope.”

Retrouvaille offers a welcoming and loving space to couples

who have been living with the misery of a failing marriage.

Retrouvaille offers hope: hope that it is not too late, hope of a different

and better marriage. Retrouvaille helps couples to show each other

mercy through the opportunities it provides to listen, to forgive, to be

reconciled and to move into their futures believing that God loves them

and with His help and their efforts, their marriages can be healed and

restored. Retrouvaille provides help for marriage problems/difficulties/

crises. For more information about an upcoming Retrouvaille Weekend

program for couples, contact registration team: at 1-800-470-2230 or

visit our website: www.retrouvailleMT.org or

Thank you to all who attended and donated to the St.

Martin de’Porres Emily Center Indian taco feed on Friday,

Oct. 20. With your help, it was a great success, and we

can continue to serve the needy of Great Falls. Thank you

from the volunteers of the Emilie Center.

St. Dismus Prison Ministry would love to have your left

over Halloween candy. Please drop any donations in

the basket at the church entrance. Thank you!

This Sunday Holy Spirit Church begins hosting for

the 14th time. Many great things happened in the 3

years of ministering to the families of children in

need. Our Hospitality House is a haven for those

who come to spend a week with us. It is a simple, homey place

that accepts life on life’s terms. The volunteers who serve the pro-

gram of Family Promise and all who support the volunteers are

blessed and enriched by this ministry that is vital to the life of our

Parish. Living the Gospel demands an active participation in the

Life of Jesus. Immersing ourselves in His word and diving deep

into our communal and personal prayer creates a vitality for not

only following Jesus, the Christ, but in being His disciples. What

a privilege.

We always have people to thank for their generous giving. A big

shout out goes to Angela Trunkle for donating the beautiful blue

easy chairs for the front room and the Knights of Columbus for

picking them up and delivering them to the house. Thank you!

The Monsignor House will be open at 4;00 each day this week.

Coordinator Patsie Thomas will greet you Monday-Wednesday.

Coordinator Kathie Remington will welcome you Thursday-

Saturday. If you had any donations or want to talk about Family

Promise please feel free to stop by or to call Kathie at 781-5033.

“Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you have been

faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities.”-

MATTHEW 25:21

God expects us to nurture and develop the gifts He has given us

and then generously return a portion with increase. He doesn’t

want us to waste or hoard the gifts He has given us; He expects us

to grow our gifts, use them wisely and be generous with them. Un-

fortunately, many of us are not generous in proportion to all that

God has given us.

Liturgical Bits and Bytes ~ Book of the dead: Some parishes

display a book of the names of the dead. The book keeps an

informal record of members who have died and can be put on

public view to help the living remember the dead.

The Catholic Church requires every parish to maintain a reg-

ister of deaths. After each funeral, the name of the deceased is

to be inscribed in this parish register. A secretary usually enters

the data, but the pastor is ultimately responsible. This register is

usually kept in the parish office, where it serves as a reference

book. Every parish is obliged to keep one. Some parishes dis-

play a second book of the dead. There is no requirement for it,

but some, including Holy Spirit, use one. Our book of the dead

contains numerous family pages, many decorated with Chris-

tian art, bound by an ornate wooden cover originally from St.
