Christ, who came to serve rather than to be served. They are to be the living embodiment of Jesus’ way of love.
WHOEVER EXALTS SELF WILL BE HUMBLED The scribes and Pharisees were not the first or the last to get caught up in the pursuit of recognition and prestige. Nor were they the only ones to ever become puffed up with their own worth, failing to honor God in the process. The Levites of Malachi’s time stand as examples of such misguided behavior as well. Of course, this is not only an issue for religious leaders of Biblical times. Many people allow their desire for esteem to lead them to ignore the contributions of others, hoping to appear to be solely responsible for success. Yet the exaltation that was sought may backfire when those who shared in the success are rightfully acknowledged and praised. In Jesus’ words, “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled.”

because their service is so deeply focused on the other. They glimpse the face of God in those whom they serve; 11/05/17
Dear Parish Family,
A friend told me she had been the last in her family to stop going to Mass on Sundays. Her siblings had long since given it up. The
reasons had a great they experienced. Too
much of inner sanctity.
The harsh words of the prophet Malachi seem more relevant than ever in our day. When we priests fail to walk in the way of Christ, fail to give glory to God’s name by what we do, we become unworthy of our calling to serve God’s people. Of course, this kind of behavior is not limited to clergy. Jesus is speaking to the crowds and disciples about the
as “separate” from the rest because of their outward signs of piety. He also calls them to authentic lives. “The greatest among you must be your servant,” Jesus says, a message He repeats again and again in the Gospels. His followers are as resistant to it now as they were then. But the faithful follower is not about titles, or ecclesiastical dress-up, or posturing in self-importance. Discipleship in the kingdom that Jesus came preaching is about being brothers and sisters who gather around Jesus Christ, the one Master, who humbled Himself and waited for God to exalt him. May the same goal be ours. - James A. Wallace, C.Ss.R. Copyright © 2012, World Library Publica-tions. All rights reserved.

CCE NEWS
PREPARATION FOR SACRAMENTS
First Communion is a two year process that typically begins in the 1st grade and ends at the end of the 2nd grade with a First Communion Mass. Children should attend Mass every Sunday to participate in the sacramental life of the church. In addition, there are Sacramental Sundays to help the children learn about reconciliation and the Eucharist. Also, children are asked to miss no more than one CCE class a school year in order to be prepared for the sacrament.
Out of Sequence First Communion is a two year process for baptized children that have begun preparation for First Communion after 1st grade. There are additional sessions after the end of regular CCE to prepare an Out of Sequence child to receive First Communion.
Confirmation preparation requires two years of preparation, but teens can take up to four years, if needed. This preparation usually begins in the 9th grade. Preparation includes weekly attendance at Sunday Mass, attendance at two confirmation retreats, all
with Confirmation, and weekly CCE attendance. Students who attend Catholic high schools are to attend the first scheduled CCE class of each month as well as all the other components listed above. The youth are asked to miss no more than one CCE class per school year. Sponsors and/or the candidate’s parents are asked to attend some classes and an Evening of Reflection to help the youth grow closer to Christ.

Mission Statement
We, the Catholic community of Holy Rosary, Rosenberg, under the patronage of Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, are bonded together by a common belief in Jesus Christ and our commitment to His teachings. We, as a community of believers, are called to proclaim the Gospel, to be witness and sign of God’s Kingdom on earth and to work for our salvation. Mindful of our Patroness, Mary, and her example as parent, teacher and intercessor, we are committed to accomplish this mission through service, education, prayer and celebration of the Eucharist.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
Jesus gave His life to serve, not to be served. Putting other’s needs before our own needs
is a sign of becoming a mature disciple, of following Jesus’ example. Humility is really a sign of a strength. By putting other’s needs
our complete trust in God. When we align our thoughts and actions with God’s plan
for us, the result is Joy and Peace.
100th ANNIVERSARY “MIRACLE OF THE SUN”
AT FATIMA
Our Lady of Fatima appeared to three shepherd children in the village of Fatima in Portugal in 1917. She urged prayer and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. October 13, 2017 marked the
100th anniversary of the “Miracle of the Sun” at Fatima. O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Queen of the most Holy Rosary, we implore you, inspire in our hearts a fervent love for the recitation of the Rosary. By meditating on the mysteries of the redemption that are recalled therein may we obtain the graces and virtues that we ask, through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION What is the name of the pope’s cathedral? If you said the Vatican, or St. Peter’s, you were off by a few
of St. John, the Lateran, the
of the world and the cathedral of the Diocese of Rome. It takes its name from the Lateran family, the Trumps of their day, who somehow
including their vast Roman palace and estate. We don’t
all the Lateran property came to Constantine, the first Christian emperor, through his wife, Fausta. Early in
Constantine gave the property to the church. Soon the great meeting halls were expanded and adapted. Over the centuries, the church building has been sacked by armies, ruined by fire, torn down, and rebuilt. The oldest and most unchanged part of the Lateran is a vast, separate baptistery with steps leading down to a huge green basalt pool. Imagine what a triumphal moment the dedication of this public church building was for a community that had worshiped in secret for so long! This Thursday’s feast of the Dedication of the Lateran

THE GREATEST AMONG US Whom do you admire? Is it the President of the United States or a movie star or a billionaire? These are people whom the world exalts as great. Like the Pharisees in today’s Gospel, they have places of honor wherever they go. Would you like to follow in their footsteps? The scriptures for today offer different examples for us to follow. Jesus tells us that the greatest among us are the servants. These are the people we are to honor and imitate. We are called to be like Paul, who worked hard to serve the needs of his communities, and Jesus, who gave His life in service to the world. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
