NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 12, 2018
Dear Parish Family,
As we prepare to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption this coming week, we have the opportunity once again to express our faith in a most profound way. The Feast attracts many to Holy Rosary and to Little Italy to celebrate the Solemnity with family and friends, as they continue this annual tradition. For 120 years, we have held this wonderful celebration, uniquely known throughout the greater Cleveland area. As a parish community, we know it most for what it is we celebrate – God’s power and glory in granting a great gift to our Blessed Mother in Her Assumption into to heaven where she is Queen of all.
Let us keep that in mind as we celebrate and welcome visitors to our parish this coming week. It really is all about our faith in the Resurrection of Christ, in which our Blessed Mother shares as the first fruits as we hear in our reading of Paul’s letter to the Corinthians on the Solemnity. This is our greatest opportunity to evangelize. We do so best by demonstrating the closeness of our parish community working and collaborating as a family of faith in serving those who will visit us.
No matter our particular role in the Feast, let us always keep in the forefront of our minds the reason why we participate – for the glory of God and building up His kingdom on earth, which is the Church! That’s it! True, it is also our annual fund raiser, but even that is for the glory of God. To operate the parish year-round requires the Feast to be financially successful and allows us to maintain this historic church building and ministries of the parish. Thank you all for the part you play in providing for this to happen.
This year, Bishop Perez will preside and preach at our Solemn Mass at 10:00 a.m. on the Solemnity and walk in the procession. This will be his first experience at the Feast, so let us make it a prayerful, positive one for him. Bishops Pilla and Gries will also join us for the Solemn Mass.
Thank you in advance for all the work you will do and for all the work already done in preparation. The Feast brings us together as a parish family centered in the Eucharist. Let our efforts express the faith we possess and draw us closer to the Lord.
As we continue to pray for good weather and a successful Feast, we place all our efforts in the hands of patron and intercessor, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Let us ask her for every grace and favor from her Divine Son to live as intentional disciples for Him during the Feast.
Buona Festa!
In Christ,Fr. Joe Previte
