STEWARDSHIP IN ACTION

JOHN & ANNE MARIE HARTLEY

John & Anne Marie are something of a Holy Spirit love story. She is a convert to Catholicism who joined Holy Spirit in 2008 while John is a "cradle Catholic" who came to our parish in 2016. Together they have a blend-ed family of 6 children and 3 grand-children, one of them, Harper, will attend Holy Spirit school in the fall. They are "newlyweds", having been married in June, 2018, but the love story began in 2017 when John accompanied Anne Marie on a family visit for the St.Vincent de Paul Society. Soon they began discover-ing other shared values and common interests and their dates always included one every Sunday morning. John recently retired from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office after 35 years while Anne Marie just retired from St. Vincent's Hospital capping a long nursing career, which included a number of volunteer medical missions to the Caribbean and Central America. Both John & Anne are lectors at the 08:15am mass - Anne is an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Commun-ion, while John leads the Rosary before mass. On the parish grounds, Anne puts her "master gardener" certification to use along with John's help in keeping a section of the Rosary Garden looking great! John also pitches in weekly at the rectory to do weeding and hedge sculpting and is always available to help move furniture at the Family Life Center. With all that they do for our parish, John & Anne are foremost, loving grandparents who always have time for family, helping to care for their grandchildren and bringing the youngest with them to mass.

Thank you both for all the ways in which you model love, sharing, caring and service to others!

FAITH FORMATION BLESSINGS OF A HOLY HOUR

It doesn’t have to be complicated!

Upon entering the Church, bless yourself with holy water and genuflect in front of the tabernacle or monstrance, acknowledging Jesus truly present in the Eucharist. There is no single formula for making a Holy Hour but here are some suggestions: 2. Take time to enter into the presence of God by quiet-ing your heart and mind. Recall who is present with you: Jesus Christ, God made-man in his divinity and his human-ity, body and soul. Allow yourself to be filled with wonder and adoration. 3. Spend a few minutes thanking God for his blessings, recalling his gifts: your life, your vocation, your family, his love for you and his provision for you. Recall in a special way the gift of himself in the Eucharist, the treasure of remaining on earth with us in the sacred Host. 4. Devote some time to petition. The greatest grace he desires for you is the salvation of your soul and the souls of others but also bring to him all of your needs –nothing is too small to be outside of his concern. “Are not two spar-rows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s will” (Matthew 10:29) 5. Prayers of Atonement are a beautiful way to express sorrow for not only our personal sins but the sins of the Church, all sins against God, against life and against neighbor and for all offenses against the Blessed Sacrament. The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a powerful prayer of atonement. 6. Sometimes just being in God’s presence is enough. Allow his peace to enter your soul. Listen to what he may be saying to you: “Speak, Lord your servant is listen-ing” (1Samuel 3:10). But if you find your mind wandering, it is a good idea to be prepared with some spiritual read-ing or formal prayers, such as the: Holy Rosary, to ponder the mysteries of the life of Christ with Mary and Litany of the Most Blessed Sacrament; plus, reading Scrip-ture, especially the daily Mass readings and good spiritual reading, such as the lives of the saints or writings of the saints. 7. Finally, take a few moments to thank God for the gift of himself in the Eucharist and the graces received during the Holy Hour. Ask him to continue his blessings through-out your day and week. Leave as you entered, genuflecting quietly before the Blessed Sacrament and blessing yourself with Holy Water.

*********************** “In the course of the day, the faithful should not omit to visit the Blessed Sacrament, which, according to the liturgical laws, must be kept in the churches with great reverence in a most honorable location. Such visits are a proof of gratitude, an expression of love, an acknowledgement of the Lord’s presence.” –Pope St. Paul VI, Mysterium Fidei

Father Raguiel,

It has been my pleasure to minister with you during your time here at Holy Spirit. I hope I helped you with your English, and I know you helped me see how good short homilies can be. I wish you well in your new assignment in Gainesville, will keep you in my prayers, and look for-ward to seeing you at future diocesan events.

Sincerely,

Deacon Pat Goin

Father Raguiel,

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve in ministry with you at Holy Spirit Catholic Church for the last three months. Your deep spirituality and commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church are inspir-ing and a beautiful example of what one can do when they surrender themselves completely to His service. I know you will bless the people at Queen of Peach Catholic Church in Gainesville with your deep love and compassion. May the Lord bless you richly as you continue to serve Him and the people of God.

Blessings,

Deacon Ed Prisby

Fr. Raguiel,

It has been a pleasure having you reside with Holy Spirit Parish during this past year. We have been especially blessed to have you serve as our Pastor in January during Fr. Amar's vacation. We wish you many blessings and much happiness in your new assignment in Gainesville, home of the Florida Gators. With your presence in the city we would expect the Gators to be the National Foot-ball Champions in 2019.

God bless,

Jim Davis

Father Raguiel,

Your time with the us in the Lector ministry has shown that the Lord speaks to all of us in many ways. Your ability to shift from one language to another is an inspiration for me to work on my own goal to learn to recite the Our Father, the rosary, and other prayers in Spanish. You have set a fine example here at Holy Spirit and have earned our re-spect and trust in you as a parish leader. Many blessings to you and best wishes on your new assignment.

Ray Stiles - Director of Lectors

Father Raguiel,

It's been a real blessing having you as part of our Holy Spirit family. Your reverence and humility to God and His Church give us an excellent model to worship our God. In a short time you transmitted a very sincere love of God to all of us. Thank you for all the teachings and kindness you have given us. We will miss you.

Gracias Padre.
