Holy Spirit is a community of believers that aspires to be formed by the values of the Gospel and finds its strength in coming together to celebrate Eucharist and to be transformed into the Body of Christ. As a Eucharistic People, we who are being
nourished must share the bread we have with others, wash the feet of our brothers and sisters and welcome all who come, as Christ Himself.

SAINT OF THE WEEK Saint Ignat ius of Loyola
Feast Day July 31st
Saint Ignatius of Loyola was born in 1491, one of 13 children of a family of minor nobility in northern Spain. As a young man Ignatius Loyola was inflamed by the ideals of courtly love and knighthood and dreamed of doing great deeds. But in 1521 Ignatius was gravely wounded in a
battle with the French. While recuperating, Ignatius Loyola experienced a conversion. Reading the lives of Jesus and the saints made Ignatius happy and aroused desires to do great things. Ignatius realized that these feelings were clues to God’s direction for him. Over the years, Ignatius became expert in the art of spiritual direction. He collected his insights, prayers, and suggestions in his book the Spiritual Exercises, one of the most influential books on the spiritual life ever written. With a small group of friends, Ignatius Loyola founded the Society of Jesus, or the Jesuits. Ignatius conceived the Jesuits as “contemplatives in action.” This also describes the many Christians who have been touched by Ignatian spirituality.

Mass Ministry Holy Spirit’s 10:30 am Mass is broadcast to those in our parish family who may be homebound, ill and unable to attend Mass. This allows those who are not able to sit in the pews next to their fellow parishioners to still feel connected and still participate in the Mass. If you are interested in serving in this ministry, we are in need of additional adults to operate the church camera system and Livestream the Mass. If you would like to learn more about Livestream or would like to assist in this ministry, please call the Parish Office.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Do you love the Catholic Faith and have a desire to bring our youth closer to Christ? Volunteers are needed in our Youth Formation program. Don’t feel like you can do it—or that you don’t know enough? Remember, God does not call the equipped—He equips the called!
SOR CATECHISTS & HELPERS Classes run Wednesdays from 4:30-5:45 PM and 6:30-7:45 PM. We will need teachers, assistants, hall monitors, daycare helpers and more!
CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD Our CGS program at Holy Spirit is growing and thriving! We are in great need of trained CGS Catechists or those interested in being trained to help in both our parish and school atria.
Schoolsof Religion (SOR) provide scatechetical instruction to children and youth who attend public schools or homeschools so that young people can grow in intimacy with Jesus, be knowledgeable about their faith, and integrate the teachings of the Gospel into their lives.
Youth Ministry
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is an approach to the religious formation of children starting at age 3. It is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the Church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an "atrium", a special room prepared for them, which contains simple, yet beautiful materials they use to discover the richness and fullness of our Catholic faith. What makes CGS different from most traditional programs is that the primary goal of the catechist (teacher) is not to simply pass on information but to encourage a response from the child.

July 30, 2017 —Marriage Minute
If you were a billionaire, but you were miserable in your marriage, you would be unhappy, wouldn’t you? If we get our marriages right, the outside circumstances of our lives will not hit as deeply. This is because they are our life’s work, our vocation. They are like the “Pearl of Great Price”
in this weekend’s Gospel, where the merchant trades all he has to buy it. Luckily for us, this means things such as:
• Giving a weekend and small financial gift for a marriage retreat
• Sacrificing a few hours a week to mentor the engaged
• Putting aside “our way” of doing things in order to choose what is best for our marriage.
