Resurrectional Apolytikion (Tone Four)

The joyful news of Your Resurrection was proclaimed by the angel to the women disciples, having thrown off the curse that fell on Adam, they ran elatedly to tell the Apostles: Death has been vanquished; Christ our God is risen from the dead, blessing all the world with His great mercy.

Festal Apolytikion (The Presentation of the Lord in the Temple)

Rejoice, O woman full of grace, O Virgin Theotokos, For there rose from you the Sun of Justice, Christ our God, Who enlightens those in darkness, You too exult and be glad, just and aged Simeon, For you carried in your arms the Redeemer of our souls, Who bestows on us the grace of resurrection.

Church Hymn (Troparion of Pentecost)

Blessed are You O Christ our God Who has shown the fishermen as wise men By sending down Your Holy Spirit upon them And through them, the whole world You drew into Your net O Lover of mankind, glory to You. Evlogitos i Hriste O Theos imon, O Pansofous tous aliis anadixas, Katapempsas aftis to Pnevma to agion, Ke thi afton tin ikoumenin saginefsas, Filanthrope doxa Si.

Kontakion Presentation of Lord in Temple For our salvation You took flesh And You sanctified the Virgin's womb; You blessed the aged Simeon as You lay resting in his arms. And having come to save us all, O Christ our God, To these troubled times, bring Your lasting peace. Give strong and undaunted faith to all Your people, O only Lover of mankind.

After the Prayer of the Proskomidi I love you, O Lord my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my Savior.

Upcoming Weeks

EPISTLE READING: St. Paul's Second Letter to Timothy 3:10-15 TIMOTHY, my son, you have observed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions, my sufferings, what befell me at Antioch, at lconion, and at Lystra, what persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. GOSPEL READING: The Gospel according to St. Luke 18:10-14 The Lord said this parable, "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.' But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Iconography Phase 3

Those interested in donating an icon for Phase 3 are encouraged to review the updated list of available icons. The process is the same as Phase 2 -- "first come, first served". Please include the Code Number on the memo line of the check. If another means of donating the funds is used, the Code Number should be either written on paper or sent in an email to avoid any confusion. When full payment is received, the icon is then considered donated and thus not available to anyone else. A display of sketches for Phase 3 is in the Founders' Walk.

If a particular Saint is not included on the present list, please inform Father Bill in written form which other Saint might be considered. When Dr. Kordis begins his work, more Saints may be included.

Parish Office Request

To assist our Parish Office Staff in keeping accurate records, please include the purpose of each donation in any form. For example, when donating by check, please include the words “Stewardship 2017” or "sound system" on the memo line; if giving via Paypal, include the giver’s full name and address, and in the Notes section, enter the purpose; OR when sending cash, please write the giver's name and the purpose on a note or envelope. The Office Staff greatly appreciates the cooperation of our parishioners, enabling the donation to be properly recorded in the appropriate account.

Helping the Hungry

Please bring flip-top cans of soup, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates and granola bars to Church, and put them in the blue Philoptochos bin. The soup will be given to patrons of the Soup Kitchen as a takeout. Chicken Noodle soup is preferred.

Proper Reverence

During the Divine Services, there are special moments in which proper reverence is offered, such as the Consecration of the Gifts, the procession of the Cross, and others. The most frequent is the Consecration of the Gifts during the weekly Divine Liturgy. Proper reverence is to kneel or to stand. We are not to be in a position that is partially sitting and partially kneeling. With our new kneelers on our new pews, please offer proper reverence by either kneeling or standing.

Philoptochos Coat Campaign

Philoptochos continues the collection of coats for the Embrace Program at Eskenazi Hospital. Many of the women coming for breast cancer treatment have to walk or take a bus and are arriving chilled to the bone, because they have no coat to wear. Please bring new or gently used coats for men and women along with scarves, gloves, and toiletries such as deodorant, lotion, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes and place them in the bin in the Founders' Walk. For more information please contact Philoptochos at [email protected]

Stewardship

Everyone who has not yet completed a 2017 Stewardship Commitment Card is encouraged to do so. Blank cards are available in the Founders' Walk following the Divine Services and online at https://goo.gl/oLGnGf.

HOLY TRINITY FINANCIAL UPDATE

Operating Account Activity 1/22/2017 - 1/28/2017

Income $19,664.47 Year to date Income $70,835.50

Expense $26,263.38 Year to date Expense $69,185.23

One day, a person complained to his Priest that the Church and Christianity is one continual “give, give, give.” To which the priest replied, “Thank you very much for the finest definition of Christianity I have ever heard. You’re right, Christianity is all about a constant “give, give, give.” God giving His only

Son to the world to show His unconditional love. His Son Jesus giving His life on the Cross to forgive our sins and destroy death. Then our Lord’s Disciples giving all they had to make sure God’s good news of love was preached to all people everywhere. They not only gave away their homes and businesses, but even gave up their lives as martyrs in gratitude to God!

Holy Communion

Holy Communion is the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Saint John of Kronstadt (1829 – 1908) says, “in partaking of the Holy Sacrament, be as sure that you partake of the Body and Blood of Christ, as you are sure that every moment you breathe air.”

Saint Cyril of Jerusalem (about 313 – 386) also teaches us “Since Christ Himself has declared the bread to be His Body, who can have any further doubt? Since He Himself has said quite categorically, ‘This is My Blood,’ who would dare to question it, and say that it is not His Blood? Therefore, it is with complete assurance that we receive the bread and wine as the Body and Blood of Christ. His Body is given to us under the symbol of bread, and His Blood is given to us under the symbol of wine, in order to make us by receiving them one body and blood with Him. Having His Body and Blood in our members, we become bearers of Christ and sharers, as Saint Peter says, of the divine nature… Do not then regard the Eucharistic elements as ordinary bread and wine: they are in fact the Body and Blood of

the Lord, as He Himself has declared. Whatever your senses tell you, be strong in faith.” The Lord urges us to make a sincere effort to make peace with each other when anger or hurt exists, seeking forgiveness or granting forgiveness, as appropriate, (Matthew 5:24) before approaching the Lord. Receiving Holy Communion is certainly important to our spiritual life and growth. This ultimate connection with Jesus Christ is a gift which God gives to us and one which should be accepted gratefully and responsibly. Our Church teaches that receiving Holy Communion frequently is encouraged. Our Church also teaches that a preparation is expected. Preparation for Holy Communion can vary from person to person. The minimum preparation to receive Holy Communion is to fast from meat on Wednesday and Friday and not eat anything on the morning prior to receiving Holy Communion. For those who must take medication that requires food, they are permitted to eat that which is necessary for their health. Furthermore, the Church teaches us to fast on particular days during the year and especially during the four main fast periods. These four main fast periods are in preparation of holy days of the year, as follows:

December 13 - 24 (Nativity of our Lord) Great Lent (before Holy Week and Easter) Monday after All Saints’ Day through June 28 (the Apostles) August 1 - 14 (the Dormition of the Theotokos)

Each of us is encouraged to approach the Chalice to receive Holy Communion in love and in peace, gratefully and responsibly.
