Mission and Ministries Renewal

How is the Holy Spirit

calling you?

Witness and mission are Gospel

demands for those who follow

Christ. Christians fulfill their prophetic

mission by evangelization, that is, proclamation of Christ

by word and the testimony of their lives.

Please pray and discern how you might offer your gifts

and participation for the renewal of our parish in its

liturgical, catechetical, and social ministries.

Return your “Commitment Form” in the basket in the

Gathering Area.

Thank You! We are all the Body of Christ!

SAINTS traditionally remembered in Canada July 29 to 31 July 29—Saint Martha– sister of Mary and Lazarus. When she received the Lord as a guest at Bethany, she looked after him with devoted attention. She begged the Lord to raise her brother, Lazarus, from the dead.

July 30—Saint Peter Chrysologus was born about the year 380 in northern Italy and there entered the priesthood. He was elected bishop of Ravenna in 424 and instructed his flock by his learned sermons and writings. He died around the year 450.

July 31—Saint Ignatius of Loyola – born in 1491 at Loyola in the Basque country of northern Spain. He spent his early years as a nobleman at court and in a military career. A cannonball shattered his leg during war against France in 1521. While recovering, he read the only books available—a life of Christ and lives of the saints—and experienced a profound conversion. The next year, Ignatius prayed and did penance and wrote the first draft of his famous Spiritual Exercises. To prepare himself to work for souls, Ignatius went back to school & studied philosophy in Paris, where he gathered six like-minded companions who became the first Jesuits. They formed the “company of Jesus” in 1534 when they took vows of poverty and chastity. By 1537, all seven had been ordained priests and taken additional vows, one of obedience and another to go where the pope sent them. Rome gave official approval to the Society of Jesus three years later. Ignatius was chosen the first general of his order. The Jesuits were immediately in demand everywhere & served as leaders of the Catholic Reformation in Europe. Soon they were serving as missionaries in India, China, Ethiopia, Congo, South America & Canada with their significant contribution being their progressive educational system. Ignatius died suddenly on July 31, 1556 in Rome.

A Prayer for Generosity

Lord, teach me to be generous Teach me to serve you as you deserve

to give and not to count the cost,

to fight and not to heed the wounds,

to toil and not to seek for rest,

to labour and not to ask for reward,

save that of knowing that I do your holy will.
