  • Palm Sunday

Opening Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.

The Blessing of the Palms The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise.

Let us pray. It is right to praise you, Almighty God, for the acts of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. On this day he entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed as King of kings by those who spread their garments and branches of palm along his way. Let these branches be for us signs of his victory, and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns in glory with you and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

All Glory Laud and Honor All glory, laud, and honor the thee Redeemer, King! To whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring.

Thou art the King of Israel, thou David's royal Son, Who in the Lord’s Name comest, the King and Blessed One.

    • The 10AM service will be broadcast on YouTube but NOT Facebook. (Facebook will not be stable enough to stream on there on this big day.)

    • The 10AM service will also be available for people to call into using their regular phone. Dial (929) 205-6099 and enter extension 475-720-2204#

  • The company of angels is praising thee on high; and we with all creation in chorus make reply.

Thou didst accept their praises; accept the prayers we bring, who in all good delightest, thou good and gracious king.

The Collect for Palm Sunday Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The First Reading: Philippians 2:5-11 Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death-- even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Your word is a lantern to my feet. And a light upon our path.

    The Psalm: Psalm 31:9-16 9 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; * my eye is consumed with sorrow, and also my throat and my belly. 10 For my life is wasted with grief, and my years with sighing; * my strength fails me because of affliction, and my bones are consumed. 11 I have become a reproach to all my enemies and even to my neighbors, a dismay to those of my acquaintance; * when they see me in the street they avoid me. 12 I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; * I am as useless as a broken pot. 13 For I have heard the whispering of the crowd; fear is all around; * they put their heads together against me;

  • they plot to take my life. 14 But as for me, I have trusted in you, O Lord. * I have said, "You are my God. 15 My times are in your hand; * rescue me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me. 16 Make your face to shine upon your servant, * and in your loving-kindness save me."

    Amazing Grace

The Reading of the Gospel: Matthew 21:1-11 The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Matthew. Glory to you, Lord Christ.

When Jesus and his disciples had come near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, "Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, just say this, `The Lord needs them.' And he will send them immediately." This took place to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet, saying,

"Tell the daughter of Zion, Look, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey."

The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the donkey and the colt, and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting,

"Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"

When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, "Who is this?" The crowds were saying, "This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee."

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

  • The Sermon

The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Prayers Christ, we pray that you would hear our prayers, and graft in our minds the same mind that is in you, that we might be vessels of your humility and grace.

Lord Jesus, you emptied yourself, trading in the form of God for the form of a slave; we pray for the Church, and all her people and ministers. Form us into a Church that empties itself for others, and for you, especially during this pandemic.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus, you were born in human likeness, and found in human form; we pray for the whole human family, for the nations of the earth, and for all who live in the midst of disaster, disease, famine, or terror.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

  • Lord Jesus, even after humbling yourself in your incarnation, you humbled yourself even to the point of death; we pray for our nation, our leaders, and all the people who live within these borders. Bless us with your humility.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus your humility and your love for us was so broad and deep, it cost you your life. We pray for those who we love who have died, and as you were highly exalted, may they rise with you in glory.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

In your exaltation, O Lord, you were given the name that is above every name; we pray in your name for those who are poor, those who are hungry, and those who are hurting in any way. Give them your grace.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

You humbled yourself in the manger, and you humbled yourself on the cross; and to you, O Lord, we bend our knee with those above and those below, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

The Peace The Peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

    Cantate Domino, Josu Elberdin

The Holy Eucharist The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give you thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and every-where to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

  • For the love of the world, your beloved Son gave himself for our sake. He was betrayed, arrested, beaten and crucified. Yet, even in his final hours, he refused to hate and chose instead the love and forgiveness that saves our souls.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.     Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.     Hosanna in the highest.

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

  • We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast.

Prayer for Spiritual Communion In union, O Dear Lord, with the faithful at every Altar of your Church, where your blessed Body and Blood are being offered to the Father, I desire to offer you praise and thanksgiving. I present to you my soul and body, with my earnest desire that I may ever be united to you. And since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, I ask you to come spiritually into my heart. I unite myself to you, and embrace you with all the affections of my soul. O let nothing ever separate me from you. Let me live and die in your love. Amen.

Grant, O Lord Jesus Christ, that as the hem of your garment, touched in faith, healed the woman who could not touch your Body, so the soul of your servant may be healed by like faith in you, Whom I cannot now sacramentally receive; through your tender mercy, Who lives and reigns with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit ever one God. Amen.

  • The Reading of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Matthew

The Dismissal Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God.

  • Maundy Thursday

When all the food is on the table, lift up each kind of food or drink and offer the prayer.

Prayer over the wine (or other drink) Blessed are you, O Lord our God, King of the universe. You create the fruit of the vine; and on this night you will refresh us with the cup of salvation in the Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.

Over Bread Blessed are you, O Lord our God, King of the universe. You bring forth bread from the earth; and on this night you will give us the bread of life in the Body of your Son Jesus Christ. As grain gathered into one loaf, so gather your Church in every place into the kingdom of your Son. Amen.

Over other Foods Blessed are you, O Lord our God, King of the universe. You have blessed the earth to bring forth food to satisfy our hunger. Let this food strengthen us in the fast that is before us, that following our Savior in the way of the cross, we may come to the joy of his resurrection. Amen.

    • There will be a 10AM Service of Morning Prayer which will be available on YouTube and Facebook

    • The first Christians often had “agape meals”—or “love feasts.” Make tonight as special a meal as you can muster, even if you are by yourself.

    • Use the prayers below, which are adaptations of the prayers prayed at those ancient love feasts.

    • Maundy Thursday is the day when Jesus washed his disciple’s feet—which was a way of telling his followers that we are to serve one another. Find some way to serve someone else today. Make a phone call. Make a donation to a cause that helps others.

  • Good Friday

Blessed be our God. Forever and ever. Amen.

Let us pray. Almighty God, we pray you graciously to behold this your family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed, and given into the hands of sinners, and to suffer death upon the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.

Hymn: O Sacred Head Sore Wounded O sacred head, sore wounded, Defiled and put to scorn: O kingly head, surrounded With mocking crown of thorn; What sorrow mars thy grandeur? Can death thy bloom deflow'r? O countenance whose splendor The hosts of heav'n adore!

In thy most bitter passion My heart to share doth cry. With thee for my salvation Upon the cross to die. Ah, keep my heart thus moved

  • To stand thy cross beneath, To mourn thee, well-beloved, Yet thank thee for thy death.

    A Meditation

The Solemn Collects Dear People of God: Our heavenly Father sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved; that all who believe in him might be delivered from the power of sin and death, and become heirs with him of everlasting life.

We pray, therefore, for people everywhere according to their needs.

    Let us pray for the holy Catholic Church of Christ throughout the world;

For its unity in witness and service     For all bishops and other ministers         and the people whom they serve     For Chip our Bishop, our Rector, and all the people of this diocese     For all Christians in this community And for all who are ministering to the sick, the dying, and the caregivers during this pandemic

That God will confirm his Church in faith, increase it in love, and preserve it in peace.

    Silence

Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

    Let us pray for all nations and peoples of the earth, and for those in authority among them;

For Donald, the President of the United States     For the Congress and the Supreme Court     For the Members and Representatives of the United Nations     For the leaders of the world who are working to ensure the safety of their people

  • and of the whole world during this crisis For all who serve the common good

That by God's help they may seek justice and truth, and live in peace and concord.

    Silence

Almighty God, kindle, we pray, in every heart the true love of peace, and guide with your wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth; that in tranquility your dominion may increase, until the earth is filled with the knowledge of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

    Let us pray for all who suffer and are afflicted in body or in mind;

For the hungry and the homeless, the destitute         and the oppressed     For the sick, the wounded, and the disabled especially, those suffering with COVID-19     For those in loneliness, fear, and anguish     For those who face temptation, doubt, and despair     For the sorrowful and bereaved     For prisoners and captives, and those in mortal danger

That God in his mercy will comfort and relieve them, and grant them the knowledge of his love, and stir up in us the will and patience to minister to their needs.

    Silence

Gracious God, the comfort of all who sorrow, the strength of all who suffer: Let the cry of those in misery and need come to you, that they may find your mercy present with them in all their afflictions; and give us, we pray, the strength to serve them for the sake of him who suffered for us, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

    Let us pray for all who have not received the Gospel of Christ;

For those who have never heard the word of salvation     For those who have lost their faith     For those hardened by sin or indifference     For the contemptuous and the scornful     For those who are enemies of the cross of Christ and

  •         persecutors of his disciples     For those who in the name of Christ have persecuted others

That God will open their hearts to the truth, and lead them to faith and obedience.

Merciful God, creator of all the peoples of the earth and lover of souls: Have compassion on all who do not know you as you are revealed in your Son Jesus Christ; let your Gospel be preached with grace and power to those who have not heard it; turn the hearts of those who resist it; and bring home to your fold those who have gone astray; that there may be one flock under one shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us commit ourselves to God, and pray for the grace of a holy life, that, with all who have departed this world and have died in the peace of Christ, and those whose faith is known to God alone, we may be accounted worthy to enter into the fullness of the joy of our Lord, and receive the crown of life in the day of resurrection.

    Silence

O God of unchangeable power and eternal light: Look favorably on your whole Church, that wonderful and sacred mystery; by the effectual working of your providence, carry out in tranquility the plan of salvation; let the whole world see and know that things which were cast down are being raised up, and things which had grown old are being made new, and that all things are being brought to their perfection by him through whom all things were made, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

    Song: Were You There

Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God.

  • Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Song of Praise Glory to God in the highest,     and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,     we worship you, we give you thanks,     we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world:     have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father:     receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High,     Jesus Christ,     with the Holy Spirit,     in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

The Collect of the Day The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The First Lesson: Jeremiah 31:1-6 A reading from the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah

At that time, says the Lord, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

    Thus says the Lord:

  • The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest, the Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall take your tambourines, and go forth in the dance of the merrymakers. Again you shall plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall enjoy the fruit. For there shall be a day when sentinels will call in the hill country of Ephraim: “Come, let us go up to Zion, to the Lord our God.”

Your word is a lantern to our feet, And a light upon our path.

The Psalm: Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24 A reading from the One Hundred and Eighteenth Psalm

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; * his mercy endures for ever. 2 Let Israel now proclaim, * "His mercy endures for ever." 14 The Lord is my strength and my song, * and he has become my salvation. 15 There is a sound of exultation and victory * in the tents of the righteous: 16 "The right hand of the Lord has triumphed! * the right hand of the Lord is exalted! the right hand of the Lord has triumphed!" 17 I shall not die, but live, * and declare the works of the Lord. 18 The Lord has punished me sorely, * but he did not hand me over to death. 19 Open for me the gates of righteousness; *

  • I will enter them; I will offer thanks to the Lord. 20 "This is the gate of the Lord; * he who is righteous may enter." 21 I will give thanks to you, for you answered me * and have become my salvation. 22 The same stone which the builders rejected * has become the chief cornerstone. 23 This is the Lord's doing, * and it is marvelous in our eyes. 24 On this day the Lord has acted; * we will rejoice and be glad in it.

The Second Lesson: Colossians 3:1-4 A reading from Paul’s Letter to the Colossians

If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

Your word is a lantern to our feet, And a light upon our path.

Sequence Hymn: Christ is Alive Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. His cross stands empty to the sky. Let streets and homes with praises ring. His love in death shall never die.

Christ is alive! No longer bound to distant years in Palestine, he comes to claim the here and now, and conquer every place and time.

Not throned above, remotely high, untouched, unmoved by human pains but daily, in the midst of life, our Saviour, with the Father reigns.

  • In every insult, rift and war, where color, scorn or wealth divide, he suffers still, yet loves the more, and lives, though ever crucified.

Christ is alive! His Spirit burns through this and every future age, till all creation lives and learns his joy, his justice, love and praise.

The Gospel Lesson: Matthew 28:1-10 The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew. Glory to you, Lord Christ.

After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ This is my message for you.” So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Prayers On this day of Resurrection, O Lord, hear the prayers of your faithful people.

Jesus, as you sent the women from the tomb to go and proclaim your triumph over death, give to your Church, scattered from its buildings and gathered in homes, the same courage to proclaim your victory of life.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Give to our nation’s leaders, and to the leaders of the whole world, the wisdom and will they need to protect your people in this time.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Give to the poor, the hungry, the lonely, and the vulnerable your never-failing Presence; and inspire your people to greater and greater acts of love and service.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Give to the sick, the distressed, those in pain, and especially those suffering in this pandemic, your comfort and relief. Give to those who labor in medicine the protection, fortitude, and vigor they need in this time.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Give to the dying and the dead their share in your Resurrection, that they might dwell with you forever in life everlasting.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

  • And, O Lord, sooth this world you created, and your people across the globe for whom you willingly bore the cross. May the whole world see and know your love even in the darkness, and celebrate your triumph which could not be contained in a tomb, and which still resounds throughout the cosmos. Amen.

The Peace The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

    The Offertory

The Holy Eucharist The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give you thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and every-where to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

But chiefly are we bound to praise you for the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is the true Paschal Lamb, who was sacrificed for us, and has taken away the sin of the world. By his death he has destroyed death, and by his rising to life again he has won for us everlasting life.

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent

  • Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.

Amen.

  • The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread Alleluia! Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia!

Amen.
